Michael Hill Presents Behind the Visor
SBN Caught for a quick chat
with Irish rider riding in World Supersport Eugene
Laverty after his awesome win in Assen '09

Q&A With Eugene Laverty from Assen WSBK '09
Why number 50?
"I used number 50 since 2002 when I raced for TSR in the
British Championship. TSR were also running Italian
rider Andrea Ballerini in the 125cc World Championship and
his career number was 50 so I just chose to go along with
that!"
Favourite Track?
"Portimao, because its natural undulations combined with
modern day style of circuit, makes it very fun to ride."
Least favourite?
"Mallory Park, Bikes these days are simply to powerful to
race around a circuit such as Mallory. Towards the end of
races its the most dangerous circuit when coming past back
makers because you have nowhere to pass them"
Favourite all time Rider?
"Valentino Rossi - he reached the top many many years ago
and for the past five years he’s been simply been
perfecting the art."
Most respected Rival?
"Andrew Pitt because of his calculated and clever approach
to racing. I would say there are many similarities in our
riding."
Any Pre race ritual?
"Not so much a ritual just simply have the same routine
which I don’t like to change, as that way i know I have
everything prepared for the race"
Best racing moment to date?
"Winning in Assen, its a victory I didn't expect as I
wasn’t the strongest rider on the day yet I still managed
to snatch victory on the final corner"
