2016 British Superbike Championship, BSB R06, Thruxton, Hampshire. 23rd July 2016. Andy Reid, Jordanstown, Quattro Plant Cool Kawasaki

Following a highly successful meeting at Thruxton two weeks ago, which saw Luke Mossey take third and fourth in the MCE British Superbike Championship races and Andrew Reid a brace of victories in the Dickies British Supersport Championship, Bournemouth-based Quattro Plant Kawasaki head to the iconic Brands Hatch GP circuit this weekend, confident of adding to their haul of silverware.

Mossey’s haul of 29 points may have only moved him up one place in the Championship table to ninth but, crucially, it brought him an awful lot closer to sixth placed James Ellison. Indeed, with the gap now just 12 points, he’ll be looking to maintain his run of excellent form and catapult himself into one of the coveted top six Showdown positions.

Team-mate Filip Backlund again made progress last time out which resulted in him scoring his second Championship point of the season with 15th place in the opening race. However, the Swedish rider knows he’s capable of more and is determined to haul himself into contention for top ten finishes in each of the two 20-lap races.

Meanwhile, the third of the solo team members, Andrew Reid, reignited his challenge for the British Supersport Championship at Thruxton and having encountered a couple of tough rounds at Knockhill and Snetterton, he bounced back in the best possible style with two race wins at the Hampshire venue.

Sitting in joint second overall in the table, he’s now eager to continue his winning run but it’s mightily close with Tarran Mackenzie currently leading the way on 154pts closely followed by the Northern Irishman and James Westmoreland tied on 153. The weekend is especially crucial as there are three races on the schedule and 75 points up for grabs.

There are no races this weekend for the Hyundai Heavy Industries British Sidecar Championship but last weekend saw Ricky Stevens and Ryan Charlwood regain the lead in the title race after taking two wins at the Mallory Park ‘Festival of Bikes’ meeting. They now lead Ben Holland/Lee Watson with 238pts to 195.

Luke Mossey: “After a strong set of results at Thruxton, I’m confident that we can carry our podium form into Brands this weekend. I love the full Grand Prix circuit and can’t wait to head out for practice on Friday. The weather look’s great so we should be set for a cracker.”

Filip Backlund: “I’m really looking forward to the weekend. I love Brands Hatch, the circuit, the atmosphere, the history, everything. I don’t feel that we got 100% justice at Thruxton last time out but I know we will this time around and I’m aiming for two strong point scoring finishes.”

Pete Extance, Team Owner: “After a fantastic home round at Thruxton, the whole team is looking to carry its momentum in to Brands this weekend and hopefully take more podiums. All of the riders know what they are capable of and what they want to achieve so we’re confident of ending the weekend with more excellent results under our belts.”
