5 Tips Make Sure You’re Prepared for Your CBT

It’s perfectly natural to feel a little nervous before your CBT Training especially if it’s your first time. To make things a little easier RideTo, the #1 platform for motorcycle training, have put together a great list of tips to make sure you’re prepared for your day of training.

1.   Read Up
One of the best things you can do to help you prepare for your day of training is to read up on what to expect. The RideTo New Rider Journal is packed to the brim with all the information you need to safely get you through your CBT. This fantastic guide covers everything from Licences and Laws to what to expect on the day of your CBT as well as the best beginner bikes, gear and routes out there.

2.   Make Sure You Have The Correct Documents
You’re going to want to make sure you have a few things prepared before you turn up to your training. Firstly you need to ensure you have a valid provisional licence. Turning up without this may cause you to be turned away. Along this you will need your National Insurance number. These are both required so the instructors are able to carry out a licence check prior to your training.

3.   Make Sure You’re in the Right Place At The Right Time
Double check your booking information to make sure you have the correct time and location. If you’re not familiar with the area it’s worth checking out the route to get to the training location prior to your day of training.
It’s worth noting that it is against DVSA regulations to arrive late and therefore the instructor may not allow you to go ahead with your training.

So it’s always best to arrive 15-30 mins ahead of your training start time just to be safe.

4.   Make Sure You Have the Correct Gear
The last thing you want is to be turned away from your training for not wearing the correct gear. Check your booking details to see what is provided by the school but if in doubt you must be wearing:

  • A sturdy pair of boots which cover the ankle (trainers will not be allowed).
  • A thick pair of jeans or trousers with no rips or tears in
  • A thick jacket
  • A sturdy pair of gloves
  • A motorcycle helmet

We always recommend buying the best gear you can afford as it will really go a long way to keeping you safe should you be in an accident.

5.   Peace Of Mind
Remember the Compulsory Basic Training is just that… training. The day is designed to give you the information you need to safely get out on two wheels. So there is no need to panic as no one is testing you.

That being said you need to demonstrate to the instructor that you have sufficient understanding and capability to head out on the road or they may cut your training short and recommend you book a second day to help master what you have learnt.

If you book your CBT through RideTo, you are able to purchase a Peace Of Mind Policy. Doing your CBT can be a little nerve wracking, especially if you haven’t much experience. Purchasing the Peace Of Mind Policy means RideTo will pay for the second day of training should you not complete the first day. This could save you over £100!

It should be noted that you must purchase this policy prior to your training taking place and the policy does not cover late arrival, failing eyesight test, or lack of understanding of highway code. (See t&cs)
