British Superbikes: Ryde Versus Redding In Red Flagged Race One At Brands HatchKyle Ryde was victorious in the opening ZYN British Superbike Championship race at Brands Hatch as the reigning champion went head-to-head with Scott Redding for the victory before the race was red-flagged with two laps remaining.

At the start of the race, Ryde launched off the Omologato Pole Position to lead the pack into Paddock Hill Bend for the first time. Redding though was instantly on the attack and made his move down the inside at Surtees.

The Hager PBM Racing Team rider began to try to break his rival with a small advantage of around 0.5s, but a small error allowed Ryde to close and the gap was soon 0.1s by lap 14, as the battle looked set to ignite between the title rivals over the final laps.

Ryde was soon back within striking distance and seized the opportunity on lap 15; he went for his move down the inside at Paddock Hill Bend to reclaim the lead.

Redding was ready to launch a counter attack, but the race was red flagged with two laps remaining when Eugene McManus crashed on the approach to Paddock Hill Bend.

Max Cook claimed the final place on the podium as the AJN Steelstock bimota rider continues building momentum.

Leon Haslam was fourth after a fierce five-way scrap throughout the race; the Moto Rapido Racing rider held off Christian Iddon, Ryan Vickers, Glenn Irwin and Bradley Ray onboard the special anniversary liveried McAMS Yamaha following an intense tussle. “For me, the first 12 laps I wouldn’t have been able to do Scott’s speed if I was out front. It was a very fast start of the race, there was no way I was going to pass Scott as he was going too fast really!

“I was trying to save a bit of the tyre and like Scott said, he made a mistake and the gap shrunk instantly. I did a really good lap and I was back on him. I had a really good run out of the last corner and thought ‘why not’ and then did four or five qualifying laps to stretch a little bit.

“Unfortunately the red flag came out so we’ve not got the battle we wanted but we have two more races tomorrow and the main thing is I hope Eugene makes a speedy recovery and we’ll go again tomorrow.”

“I’ll call that one saved by the bell! I got a good start and could maybe have got the holeshot at turn one, but I ended up in a good position to make a move into turn four.

“Then I got my head down and the pace was good. I tried to bring up the pace and get a gap to Kyle, but then I made a mistake in my weakest area and Kyle’s strongest part. So then the gap came down and he came underneath me into turn one.

“He started to stretch me a little, but I adapted my riding style and started to close the gap and I thought we could have a good little battle for the last two laps of the race.

“Just as I got back there, the red flag came out! Obviously the man of the moment got the win. I think we could have had a nice little show at the end of that one, but that’s racing and we have two more chances tomorrow. ”
