Round 2 sees two very different races ignite the standings as the #9 leaves the Netherlands in the lead
RACE 1
Drama unfolded at the end of Race 1 that saw leader Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) crash at Turn 5 – and while yellow flags were waving – to hand a first victory of 2025 to Andrea Mantovani (KLINT Forward Factory Team). The charismatic Italian was joined on the podium by Alessandro Zaccone (Aruba Cloud MotoE Team) and front row starter Jordi Torres (Power Electronics Aspar Team).
The battle for victory went down to the wire, and on the final lap, that’s where Casadei’s costly error came. A fall from the lead, while the yellow flags were out, not only meant the Italian lost out on a Race 1 podium, but it meant he’d have two Long Laps to complete in Race 2.
Nicholas Spinelli (Rivacold Snipers Team MotoE) and Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE) rounded out the top five as attention then turned to Race 2 later on in the afternoon.
RACE 2
The second showdown of the day also saw some drama early on as Casadei crashed on the sighting lap! There was no damage to the bike and it was the Italian who led the way on the opening laps, before he took his two Long Lap penalties.
That left fast-starting Zaccone and Race 1 winner Mantovani to battle it out for Race 2 honours, and it was the former who fended off his compatriot by 0.3s to clinch a first victory of the season – and to make it four winners in the first four races.
Completing the podium was rookie Lorenzo Baldassarri (Dynavolt Intact GP), the Italian leading home a freight train of riders that included Torres and reigning World Champion Hector Garzo (Dynavolt Intact GP). Casadei settled for P6 in the end, and it’s safe to say that wasn’t the afternoon he and the LCR team had planned in Assen. However, the positive for the Italian outfit was Eric Granado was able to pick up a pair of P7s as he battled through the pain barrier following his unfortunate incident at Le Mans.
Next up we go to Austria, and it’s Mantovani now leading the championship by 13 points over Zaccone. We’ll see you at the Red Bull Ring for two more races!
