Triumph Gears Up for Red Bull Romaniacs with Jonny Walker & Sam Sunderland
Triumph Motorcycles is gearing up for its next major challenge as Jonny Walker and Sam Sunderland get set to take on the 2025 Red Bull Romaniacs in Romania from July 22–26.
Widely regarded as the world’s toughest hard enduro rally, Romaniacs will push both riders and their machines to the limit across the demanding terrain of the Carpathian Mountains.
Both Jonny and Sam will compete on near-standard Tiger 900 Rally Pro adventure bikes in the event’s dedicated Adventure categories. Triumph Factory Racing Enduro Team’s Jonny Walker will line up in the Adventure Ultimate class, while two-time Dakar Champion and Triumph Motorcycles Brand Ambassador Sam Sunderland will compete in the Adventure Lite class.
For Jonny, Romaniacs is a chance to return to an event where he has extensive experience in the Gold class, but this time with a fresh challenge – taking on the race aboard a Tiger 900 Rally Pro. Having raced at the sharp end of hard enduro for years, Jonny is looking forward to testing both his skills and the bike’s capabilities in a completely new way.
This event also marks Sam’s first official race appearance with Triumph. Having signed on as Brand Ambassador earlier this year, the Brit is eager to test the Tiger 900 Rally Pro in one of the world’s most demanding off-road environments.
Red Bull Romaniacs begins on Tuesday, July 22, with the city prologue in Sibiu, before competitors head into four gruelling days of off-road racing through the mountains, covering a mix of rocky climbs, riverbeds, forest sections, and high-altitude trails.
With two world-class riders competing on near-stock adventure machines, Triumph is ready to showcase the real-world capability of its Tiger 900 Rally Pro in the most extreme conditions Romania has to offer.
Jonny Walker said: “I’m really excited to take on this iconic race on the Tiger 900 Rally Pro. I’ve enjoyed riding it already, so I can’t wait to head to Romania and actually race it. Being in the Adventure Ultimate class, it’s going to be different than my experience of the race in the past – hopefully a bit less intense – but still a new challenge for myself and the bike. I’m looking forward to it!”
Sam Sunderland added: “I’m super excited to take on Romaniacs – the name of the race says everything really! I’ve seen some crazy videos from previous years and I can’t wait to get involved. I’m looking forward to competing in the Adventure Lite class for my first race back in a while, and it will no doubt be good training for my upcoming adventure around the world! Jonny has been a massive help already, giving me plenty of advice from a hard enduro perspective, so I’m feeling confident on the bike and eager to get out to Romania.”
Ian Kimber, Head of Global Racing Programmes, Triumph Motorcycles commented: “It’s going to be great to see Sam and Jonny take on the adventure class for Triumph’s debut at the Red Bull Romaniacs! It will be quite different to what they have done before, but having two world class racers aboard the Tiger 900 Rally Pros will add a lot of intrigue into this new class at one of the world’s most iconic off-road bike events, while also highlighting the bike’s capability.
“The classes are hotting up, so the racing is expected to be really good; I know both guys want to put on a good show and I’m sure we’ll learn a lot from their experience there. We can’t wait to get going and see how they get on!”
