The excitement of the new World Superbike season is starting to boil as all the world’s best riders start testing. There are a number of UK new betting sites that are going to be offering odds for the season ahead and all will have Jonathan Rea as the favorite. He is the defending World Champion and is looking to win the FIM Superbike title for the fourth time in his career.

Testing is taking place at Jerez and Jonathan Rea was the pacesetter on his brand new Kawasaki ZX-10RR. His factory superbike has been custom built to meet the new 14,100 rpm limit that comes in to play for the season ahead. Rea set the fastest time of the day recording 1:39.862 for a lap of the 2.75 mile course.

During testing in Spain on Tuesday 16 of the world’s best Superbike riders hit the track testing out their new machines for 2018. The signs are that the new technical rules have slowed down the bikes as the fastest lap set by Rea was nearly a second off the lap record. which stands at 1:38.960 which was set last year by Marco Melandri.

Rea was a lot faster than the chasing pack with second-placed Alex Lowes setting a time of 1:40.064. That time was a huge improvement on last seasons races held a Jerez. On his new Pata Yamaha YZF-R1, he was nearly one second quicker.

Tom Sykes the former World Champion came in third fastest setting a time of 1:40.178. He will be disappointed with that considering his teammate Rea was considerably quicker.

The Aruba.it racing team have a great testing session, Marco Melandri finishing fourth and Chaz Davies finishing fifth.

Michael Van Der Mark set the sixth best time and was closely followed by Eugene Laverty from Ireland. Red Bull Honda need to make improves if they are going to have a great 2018 as they came in sixth and seventh.

TripleM Racing Honda did not take part in tests due to delays for parts that are waiting for. They will be testing their new CBR100RR SP2 Superbike during the next tests held in Portugal on the 28-29 of January.
