As WorldSSP moves into the second half of the campaign Stefano Manzi claimed his fifth victory of the season.
The Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing extended his title lead over Can Oncu (Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team) to 61 points.
The race for victory was settled on the penultimate lap when Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) ran off track at the Fogarty Esses. The British rider led for nine laps at his home circuit as he battled for a second win of the season.
On the final lap Oncu ran off track at Turn 12 while battling Lucas Mahias (GMT94-YAMAHA) for the final step of the podium. Oncu rejoined in fifth position behind Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing Verdnatura).
Manzi’s fastest lap will be rewarded with pole position for Race 2. The Italian will start on the front row ahead of Booth-Amos and Oncu. On the final lap, armed with fresh tyres following a pitstop, Bo Bendneyder (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) set the ninth fastest lap of the race to earn a third row start.
Championship Highlights
- Manzi leads the standings by 61 points while Booth-Amos moves from fifth in the standings to third
- Yamaha’s advantage over Ducati in the Manufacturers’ Standings is now 108 points
P1 – Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing)
“Starting from pole in the race is always an amazing feeling. It’s been a good weekend for me and I’ve really enjoyed riding on this track. The weather has been amazing too. I’m focused on each race and the round rather than thinking about the championship. The battle with Tom was very tight and in the middle of the race I was struggling to follow him. In the final laps I managed to close the gap to him and then it turned into one of my ‘bizarre’ fights. It was clean and really fun. It was great to win a race like that.”
