Grids set on sweltering Saturday as MotoJunior tackles Jerez
Zanni, Fernandez, Borrelli and Trias enter the headlines as anticipation builds for another all-action Sunday at Jerez!
After a scorching Saturday at Jerez, the grids are set for Round 3 of the FIM MotoJunior World Championship. With new and existing names entering the spotlight, catch up on what happened in qualifying.
Moto3 Junior World Championship
Leonardo Zanni (Momoven Racing) secured a belated birthday present of pole position at Jerez, fending off his rivals with just 0.034s splitting the top three. It’s Zanni’s first pole in the Moto3 Junior World Championship after he set a 1:46.072s.
Travis Borg (Team Monlau Motul) continued his record of improving his qualifying performances with every round. Borg claimed P2 on the grid, grabbing his first Moto3 Junior World Championship front row start.
P3 on the grid belongs to Spanish rider Carlos Cano (CFMOTO Aspar Junior Team) after he posted a 1:46.106s to take third on home soil as he goes in search of a first win since making the step into the Moto3 Junior World Championship.
Moto2 European Championship
Eric Fernandez (Fau55teyRacing) stormed to pole position at Jerez after clocking a breathtaking 1:40.117s. The #4 was consistent throughout the session, searching for win number two of 2026.
Milan Pawelec (AGR Team) finished Saturday in second, ending the day 0.102s behind top spot. Pawelec continues his title defence at Jerez and looks to bounce back following a P9 finish last time out.
Championship leader Unai Orradre (Momoven Racing) rounds out the front row of the grid in P3. The Spanish star enters Sunday with confidence, returning to the venue where the #10 took victory in 2025
Moto4 European Cup
Saturday delivered further surprises in the Momoven Moto4 European Cup as Cristian Borrelli (Team Echovit Pasini Racing) took top honours following a stunning 1:49.119s. The Italian claimed his first pole of the season, targeting victory on Sunday.
Qabil Irfan (SIC – GRYD Racing) stunned in second, qualifying on the front row after finishing quickest in Group B.
Alvaro Lucas (CFMOTO Aspar Junior Team) heads from third, entering the weekend as the points leader. The #46 was 0.209s adrift from pole as he searches for his fourth consecutive victory tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Lucas’s nearest title rival, Edoardo Savino (Leopard Junior), starts from P7 on Sunday and has work to do at lights out.
Stock European Championship
Blai Trias (GV Tamoil Racing) posted a 1:44.156s to make it three front row starts in a row this season. The #62 starts from pole position on Sunday and is joined on the front row by fellow Spanish rider Jacobo Hinojosa (Futurotel Face Racing), who heads from second.
Miguel Bernal (MDR Competicion) had to come through Q1, later using that experience to qualify on the front row – qualifying in third.
Yeray Ruiz (Team Honda Laglisse FPS) set the fastest time but was later handed a back-of-the-grid penalty for slow sectors in Q2.
With Saturday officially in the books, tune in for a blockbuster Sunday at 10:45 (UTC +2) for the next chapter of the 2026 FIM MotoJunior World Championship!
