Moto3: Kelso blasts to Friday P1 at Assen to lead Honda 1-2-3
Rocketing to P1 on day one in the sunshine at Assen, Joel Kelso (GRYD Racing) led a Honda 1-2-3 with a fine showing in Moto3.
It’s the first session the #66 has led in 2026 and he’s in the box seat going into the rest of the weekend. The Australian had an advantage of 0.216s over the opposition whilst less than a second covered the top 18.
Kelso set the pace and got down to a 1’40.918s, the only rider in the 1:40s whilst Guido Pini (Leopard Racing) was second for one of his better sessions since the Championship got back into Europe. Three Hondas in the top three, Eddie O’Shea (GRYD Racing) was in fantastic form as he enjoyed his best session of the year so far, 0.146s ahead of Marco Morelli (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team).
Behind the front four, Adrian Cruces (CIP GreenPower) led the way ahead of Rico Salmela (Red Bull KTM Tech3), with six different nationalities at the front of the order. Elsewhere, David Almansa (LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP) was in P8 despite a crash at Turn 1, whilst Championship leader Maximo Quiles (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team) was in P11. The biggest name to miss the cut was Valentin Perrone (Red Bull KTM Tech3), with the Argentinean rider finishing in P26.
