As the MotoGP Championship nears its summer break, which includes the support classes of Moto2 and Moto3, we get caught up with British Moto3 rider Scott Ogden and his season so far.
Scott is now in his fourth year in the Grand Prix Moto3 class – the first three were with British Racer turned team owner, Michael Laverty, onboard the Honda Vision Track Racing bike, later renamed MLav Racing. For the 2025 season, Scott rides for the CIP Green Power team onboard the KTM machine.
” I found I was able to be fast straight away “
We caught up with Scott at the end of the Assen Grand Prix, where Scott finished 7th, a season best so far for him and the CIP team.
SBN: How has settling into the new team gone so far this year?
Scott: ” Overall it’s been a good change for me. I’ve been living in Valencia for the past 4 years, and the majority of the team are from Spain. Close to where I live. So it’s not been too difficult.”
SBN: How has the switch from the Honda MLav bike to the KTM CIP bike been, have you had to change your riding style, do you think it suits you better?
Scott: ” The initial change to KTM wasn’t so different. I found I was able to be fast straight away. However over time, there are small areas that have been highlighted and I need to improve to make the next step. The main one being the down shifts. To get the engine brake in the correct range, you have to shift the first gear very quickly.”

” The last three years have been hard “
SBN: What will you be focusing on for the remainder of the year to help your progression?
Scott: “The main focus is the shifting. I think once I improve that, it will help me in the braking zones and make overtaking more easy. Or at least to maintain the position once overtaking.”
A front row start in Italy for Scott Ogden
Round 9 of the 2025 season took place at Mugello, Italy. Scott was on incredible form straight out the gate during Free practice 1 where he finished the session in second place on the timesheets, 0.724 adrift from current championship leader Jose Rueda in first. His form continued placing 6th overall in Practice and topping the timings during Free Practice 2, all leading to a front row start qualifying P3 for the Italian Grand Prix.
Speaking about the Italian Grad Prix, Scott had this to say: ” The race was ok but the slow pace meant the race really stayed as a big group meaning slip streaming was decisive. Unfortunately contact on the last lap left me without the big result to celebrate, however this weekend has shown us what we really can do”

SBN: How do you feel the last two race weekends have gone?
Scott: ” Honestly the last 2 weekends I’ve made a big step. The results haven’t quite shown it. But the pace throughout the weekend has been clear. I think everytime I finish the races I gain alittle more confidence.
The last 3 years have been hard. And it’s been important for me to start finishing races and be more consistent. I just need to now take a little more risks in the big group fights.”

Speaking about Assen, which he feels was a difficult weekend despite a 7th place finish, Scott said ” During the race I had good pace and was able to battle. We got a bit lucky but we are now putting ourselves in much better positions. I know now that we really have good pace and can be fighting with the lead group every race weekend”
” We still have a little trouble keeping the positions once I overtake, but we are happy to be able to stay in that leading group”
The MotoGP paddock moves to Germany for racing at the Sachsenring July 11 – 13 where Scott will be out for his first Friday session at 8.00am!
