Delivery-mileage Norton F1 Rotary to be offered at the NEC Classic Motor Show by Iconic Auctioneers
Iconic Auctioneers will offer a rare, delivery-mileage Norton F1 Rotary at their Motorcycle Sale during the NEC Classic Motor Show on 9 November. This unregistered example, one of only 140 built, is in ‘as new’ condition and is estimated to sell for £30,000 – £40,000.
Iconic Auctioneers will present a rare and highly collectable Norton F1 Rotary with delivery mileage at the Iconic Motorcycle Sale, taking place during the NEC Classic Motor Show on Sunday 9 November. This Shenstone-built road-going example of the JPS Norton RCW588 race bike has never been used or registered since its purchase in 1990 and is offered in unmarked, ‘as new’ condition.
Launched in 1990 as the road-going counterpart to the Trevor Nation and Steve Spray JPS Norton RCW588 racers, the F1 Rotary represented the final version of Norton’s rotary-powered machine. With a 588cc twin-rotor engine producing 95bhp, matched to a Spondon frame and White Power front and rear suspension, it was capable of around 145mph. At the time, its technical specification and price placed it firmly in the upper echelons of road-going superbikes.
This particular example was purchased new in 1990 and has remained unused and unregistered ever since, showing just 57 factory ‘despatch’ miles. It has formed part of several private collections over the last decade, receiving a ‘Highly Commended’ award at the Stafford Show in 2014. Remarkably, the bike is accompanied by its original handbooks, three keys, press pack, tools, Stafford rosette and the original invoice, underscoring its authenticity and appeal to serious collectors. It is offered by Iconic Auctioneers with an estimate of £30,000 – £40,000.
Only around 140 Norton F1 Rotaries were ever produced, making this delivery-mileage survivor one of the most desirable examples to come to market. Finding one in such untouched condition is a rare opportunity.
Mark Bryan, Motorcycle Manager at Iconic Auctioneers, said: “The Norton F1 Rotary is one of the most significant British superbikes of its era. To be able to offer one in delivery-mileage, unused condition is something truly special. For collectors and enthusiasts alike, it represents a once-in-a-generation chance to secure a piece of motorcycling history.”
The Norton F1 Rotary will form part of the Iconic Motorcycle Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show, held at Birmingham’s NEC on Sunday 9 November from 11am. Viewing will take place in Hall 2 across the show weekend.
