Home race pole for Fynn Kratochwil – Red Bull Rookies Cup at the Sachsenring
Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup: German 15-year-old Fynn Kratochwil has the hopes of the local fans on his shoulders at the Sachsenring.
In his debut Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup season, he has already been on the podium twice at Mugello and now takes his first pole.
Right behind him on the timing sheet are the more experienced Kiattisak Singhapong in 2nd and Kiandra Ramadhipa, 3rd. 4th fastest is Assen Race 1 winner Carlos Cano, with Cup points leader Beñat Fernandez 5th.
16-year-old Ramadhipa knows how to run at the front on his KTM, having led the last 8 laps in Race 1 last year only to be deposed on the final round. He was 4th in Race 2, which was won by fellow Indonesian Veda Pratama.
Both Singhapong, the 20-year-old Thai and Cano, the 16-year-old Spaniard, are among the 4 riders who are consigned to the back of the grid for Race 1 due to slow riding in Qualifying. So Fernandez joins Kratochwil and Ramadhipa on the front row for Saturday’s race.
1st – Fynn Kratochwil (Germany)
“I’m so happy with Pole. Of course, everyone wants to do as well as possible. As soon as the session started, I felt good with the new tyres, the set-up was good. I’ve been super hyped for this weekend, so far, it is going great. This track is much more of a challenge on the KTM than it was in the NTC, and I’m enjoying it.
2nd – Kiattisak Singhapong (Thailand)
“I think we worked well through the two free sessions, tried the two sprockets, tried riding in the group and alone. I then dropped back and chased after the group, so I am confident. The bike is working well. I think I am doing a good job, so it should be a good race. I will break away if I can.”
3rd – Kiandra Ramadhipa (Indonesia)
“It’s my best Qualifying so far in the Red Bull Rookies Cup. So yeah, I’m happy. I changed my mentality. I tried in the group, of course, but also riding through the pit lane to find my own space, also riding with just one other rider, Bujosa, to see how that worked. I like left-hand corners, so this track is great for me.”
4th – Carlos Cano (Spain)
“I am very happy because I made a good step in Assen and I am carrying on with that here. Confident with the bike, we worked on it a little bit, no major changes, but I am confident and enjoying the track. I’m sure that it’s going to be a big group racing together. That’s OK.”
5th – Beñat Fernandez (Spain)
“Again, everyone wants to run with me, get in the way. I only managed a single lap the way I wanted. I know what I have to do. I have a 42-point lead, as long as I am near the front, I can defend that, I don’t have to do anything crazy. Last year, Race 1 was damp and a bit tricky. In Race 2, I got pushed wide at the last corner, went from P4 to 8th. I’ll try not to let that happen again.”
