WorldSSP: Booth-Amos completes dream double at Donington Park
Tom Booth-Amos secured the first double victory of his WorldSSP career with another superb performance at Donington Park, overcoming mid-race contact to complete a perfect home weekend for PTR Triumph Factory Racing.
The British rider looked set to control proceedings before contact with Can Oncu (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) at the Melbourne Loop dropped him to fourth position. Oncu was subsequently handed a one-position penalty for the incident, while Booth-Amos wasted little time carving his way back through the field. Regaining the lead before two-thirds distance, the Triumph rider pulled clear to secure his second victory of the weekend after leading eight of the 19 laps.
Championship leader Albert Arenas (AS BLU CRU Racing Team) delivered another measured performance to finish second. The Spaniard spent all but the opening two laps inside the podium positions and crossed the line just over one second behind Booth-Amos to further strengthen his championship advantage.
Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) completed the podium after a dramatic final-corner pass on Roberto Garcia (GMT94 Yamaha) at Goddards. Garcia narrowly missed out on a podium finish but claimed his seventh top-five result of the season, leading teammate Lucas Mahias across the line.
Championship Highlights
Albert Arenas extended his lead in the WorldSSP Riders’ Championship to 82 points over Valentin Debise, with the Frenchman enduring a difficult weekend to finish tenth.
Masia’s late charge to the podium allowed him to retain third place in the standings, while Booth-Amos’ perfect weekend moved him to within 30 points of the Spaniard in fifth position.
In the Manufacturers’ Championship, Yamaha strengthened its advantage to 41 points over Ducati thanks to a pair of podium finishes, while Triumph’s two victories at Donington Park moved the British manufacturer to within a single point of ZXMOTO in the battle for third.
P1 – Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph Factory Racing)
“It’s incredible, honestly, the feeling you get crossing the finish line first at home. I’ve only won one race before, so to win two in one weekend is incredible. My plan was to do the same as yesterday: get to the front and, with seven or eight laps to go, try to push and break away. I think I managed to do that. It’s a shame that, after the momentum we’ve built this weekend, we now have another six or seven weeks until the next round. But there’s no better way to go into the break.”
