After 16 Hours: Yoshimura SERT Motul tops Bol d’Or order, EWC title initiative with BMW

With 16 hours of racing completed, Yoshimura SERT Motul led BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team and Yamalube YART Yamaha EWC Official Team.
If the top three positions remain unchanged, BMW will win the EWC title for the first time having also banked nine intermediate points at the 16-hour mark compared to the eight scored by YART – Yamaha. However, with the Bol d’Or not due to finish until 15h00 CET, the outcome at Circuit Paul Ricard is far from decided.
While Champion-MRP-Tecmas continued to top the Dunlop-supplied Superstock category after 16 hours, the title initiative is with National Motos Honda FMA following Team Étoile’s exit with engine failure during the night. It would mean back-to-back FIM Endurance World Cup triumphs for the French squad, a long-term EWC entrant, providing it holds on.
ARTEC #199 is on course to win the inaugural FIM Endurance World Trophy after Team Super Moto Racing was delayed by two falls during the night. Team Moto Ain led the entry-level category for production-based machinery after 16 hours followed by Green Team 42 Lycée Sainte Claire and Audemar Motoclub Gemenos.
Behind YART – Yamaha, AutoRace Ube Racing Team reached 16 hours in fourth position on its Bol d’Or debut. Motobox Kremer Racing powered by 123 was next up in the Formula EWC category in eighth overall with Mana-Au Competition one place behind in the headlining division followed by Team Bolliger Switzerland, Maco Racing Team and the delayed Tati Team AVA6 Racing, which ran in the top two during the opening hour.
Second after eight hours having led, F.C.C. TSR Honda France was in second place when a pitstop at 03h20 proved terminal due to a mechanical failure. Alan Techer had earlier set a new race lap record of 1m52.506s.
Despite riding as a pair after Mike Di Meglio was sidelined with a leg injury when he crashed on oil dropped by another motorcycle early in the race, Grégory Leblanc and Román Ramos had heroically brought Kawasaki Webike Trickstar up to sixth place. But its retirement was confirmed at 06h10 following its unscheduled pitstop at 05h34.
ERC Endurance suffered a dramatic exit when David Checa crashed heavily at 03h55. The Spanish rider was uninjured but the German squad’s BMW was badly damaged after it caught fire. ELF Marc VDS Racing Team/KM99 was also in the top 10 when it stopped with a mechanical failure at 03h19.
Team 18 Pompiers Igol CMS Motostore was third in Superstock after eight hours but a reported chain problem left it in fourth after 16 hours, one position down on Kaedear-Dafy-RAC 41 Honda with Revo-M2, Slider Endurance, Team 33 Louit April Moto, Team Racing 85 and Junior Team LMS Suzuki all well placed. TRT27 AZ Moto ran fifth after eight hours but retired with a mechanical failure during the night. Honda No Limits and 3ART Best of Bike are also out.
