New Connectivity Unit And ride Husqvarna Motorcycles app elevate offroad riding performance.
Engine customisation and suspension set-up made easy for all motocross and cross country riders.
New for 2024, the Connectivity Unit Offroad (CUO) and Ride Husqvarna Motorcycles app combine to help riders customise and fine-tune their offroad machinery, allowing them to become both faster and more knowledgeable. The CUO is now available globally and can be fitted to model year 2022 – 2024 FC 450 Rockstar Edition models, and model year 2023 – 2024 FC 250, FC 350 and FC 450 4-stroke motocross models. The Ride Husqvarna Motorcycles app is available as a free download and once it is paired with the CUO, riders can create and save multiple engine maps and suspension set-ups for use at all types of circuits.
Downloading the free Ride Husqvarna Motorcycles app gives riders instant access to the Suspension feature that offers an intuitive guide to setting the SAG, as well as suggesting set-up recommendations based on their weight and the track conditions. Settings are saved within a Virtual Garage on the app for future reference where riders can also access their Owner’s Manual. On top of that, a personal profile can be created where native languages and preferred dealerships can be selected.
Installing the CUO and pairing it with the Ride Husqvarna Motorcycles app opens up an extensive range of customisation options for riders to refine and enhance the on-track performance of their machine. Riders can create and fine-tune multiple engine maps to suit different terrain and their ability within the Engine feature.
By adding a GPS sensor, each lap of every on-track session is recorded and within the Rider section of the app – which is powered by LITPro – riders can review their on-track performance and view detailed analytics of how their machine is running.
After a successful introduction of the CUO on the 2024 FC 450 Rockstar Edition models, Husqvarna Motorcycles is proud to offer the pioneering component to even more riders. The CUO, together with the Ride Husqvarna Motorcycles app, allows all competitors to enjoy full customisation of their machine, discover how to set it up correctly and become a much more proficient and faster rider.
The new Connectivity Unit Offroad is available from February 2024, priced at £216.60 – with the Connectivity Unit kit, GPS antenna kit and front fender all available seperately – from Authorised Husqvarna Motorcycles dealerships. The Ride Husqvarna Motorcycles app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Playstore.

13-Time Isle Of Man TT Winner Peter Hickman Leads Two-Rider Team For 82nd Running Of The Daytona 200.
The Triumph factory-supported PHR Performance Team will head to the USA in March this year to tackle the Daytona 200, with Peter Hickman and Richard Cooper setting their sights on clinching another victory with Triumph’s Street Triple 765 RS.
Hickman’s PHR Performance Team will be preparing two Street Triple 765 RS bikes in the UK, with the official support of Triumph. Now in its 82nd year, the Daytona 200 runs from March 7-9 at Daytona International Speedway, Florida, USA. The race itself gets underway at 1310h local time on Saturday, March 9.
The 2024 event presents an exciting opportunity for Hickman in particular, to compete at the race he’s long been keen to tackle, whilst also serving as a valuable chance for more track time aboard the Triumph machine that he’ll compete on at the Isle of Man TT.
Steve Sargent, Triumph’s Chief Product Officer:
“Triumph is pleased to support Peter Hickman and Richard Cooper in their efforts to bring the Daytona 200 crown back to the UK with the PHR Performance Team. This iconic race holds a special place in the history of Triumph Racing In fact, Brandon Paasch won on the Street Triple 765 in its first outing at Daytona in 2022, and he credits the engine with making the difference when he powered to his dramatic victory. It’s the same three cylinder 765 that forms the basis of the bikes Hickman and Cooper are racing this year.
“This race, along with our entries into Supercross and Motocross, a strong commitment in Supersport and our continued role as the official engine supplier in Moto2™, means that 2024 should be a very exciting year for Triumph Racing.”
Peter Hickman, PHR Performance Team Owner and Rider:
“The Daytona 200 is a race that I’ve not only watched for many years, but also always wanted to compete in. To finally get everything in place to run not only myself but also “Coopes” as the official Triumph entry is absolutely amazing, and I cannot wait! We’re running the same bikes we’ll be running at the Isle of Man TT this year, so it gives us a good platform for extra testing.
“I need to thank a few teams for helping to make all this happen. Triumph Racing, Freedom Road Financial, Faye Ho and the FHO Racing team for not only allowing me to bring my own team to race here but also for supporting us, and of course David Robinson of Bathgate Group. Everyone has made a substantial input to get us ready. I can’t wait to get on track and experience Daytona for the first time. To say I’m excited is an understatement and I know that with the package we have, we will be strong contenders.”
Richard Cooper, PHR Performance Team Rider:
“I am mega excited to be returning to the Daytona 200! The last time I raced here was back in 2008 where I finished fifth in the main race. This year, I’m returning with Triumph and the PHR Performance Team on the Street Triple 765 RS I believe that with this team and this bike, we are capable of achieving top honors!
“It’s a huge effort from everyone in the team to get the bikes, equipment, and personnel over from the UK but with the team we have, I’m confident we’ll be right at the sharp end from the first practice. Looking at the previous results, the Triumph Street Triple has been a great package, winning in ‘22 and delivering a strong pace in ’23. I’m looking forward to meeting and putting on a good show for the fans in March.”
Triumph has a long association with Daytona, tracing its roots back to the factory team victories in 1966 and 1967 for Buddy Elmore and Gary Nixon, respectively. Sensationally, Brandon Paasch won in 2022 on the debut of the Street Triple 765 under the Supersport regulations, using the triple’s superior torque to power out of the last corner and judge his victory dash to perfection, taking the flag by 0.007 seconds.
Lee Hardy Racing and Kawasaki UK sign Davo Johnson for 2024 Roads campaign.
Kawasaki UK and Lee Hardy Racing are excited to announce that they have teamed up with David Johnson for the 2024 International Road Race Season, with the experienced Aussie competing on a Ninja ZX-10RR in the Superbike and Superstock classes.
No strangers to the ‘roads’, the Lee Hardy Racing team are taking a year away from the British Superbike paddock to focus on the International Road Race Season. The Norfolk-based squad have signed Australian rider David Johnson, one of the most experienced riders on the grid, to compete in the 2024 North West 200, Isle of Man TT and Macau GP.
Davo, as he’s commonly known by his fans, will be racing a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR in the Superstock and Superbike races at both events, and he has already been getting used to the bike with laps on a standard ZX-10R in Australia.
David Johnson:
“I’m very happy to get the Kawasaki ride with Lee Hardy Racing. I’ve always got along great with Lee, and he always prepares immaculate, very competitive bikes. I have been riding a lot out here in Australia, and since agreeing on a deal, I’ve been extra motivated to be at the top of my game come May. Testing begins very soon, and I can’t wait to get started!”
Lee Hardy, Team Owner:
“I am looking forward to being back on the roads, especially as the Official Kawasaki Road Racing Team for 2024. I am pleased to have signed Davo for the North West, TT and Macau, and am sure he is going to be a great asset to the team. I am also very proud to be supported by Kawasaki and it is an incredible opportunity for LHR to officially represent the brand, as you can imagine with all new projects we can’t wait to get going!”
Ross Burridge, Head of Marketing & Racing Department at Kawasaki UK:
“The Road Racing season is always an incredible spectacle, and it’s fantastic to have such a strong combination of rider and team for 2024, who we’re sure will put on a great show for the thousands of fans lining the roads. With a strict few months of training and testing planned for Davo and the team, we are sure they will be right in the thick of the action when the flag drops at the NW200 in May.”
The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and Yamaha Motor Europe are pleased to announce a change of status and a new name for the FIM Superbike World Championship’s feeder class, the FIM Yamaha R3 bLU cRU World Cup.
The series, previously known as the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Championship, has been upgraded to World Cup status thanks to its increasing success and large numbers of international participants.
After many years of support from FIM Europe, the FIM Yamaha R3 bLU cRU World Cup will now come under the global FIM umbrella. The R3 bLU cRU initiative was launched in 2021 by Yamaha Racing and is designed to provide a structured and direct path into world championship racing for riders aged between 14 and 20 years old.
Managed by Japan Italy Racing (JiR) and supported by the FIM and Dorna WSBK Organization (DWO), the series forms an integral part of DWO’s SBK Roadway program. This partnership between all parties has proven to be an effective and successful one, with a large percentage of the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship grid now made up of former bLU cRU riders.
The FIM Yamaha R3 bLU cRU World Cup will be contested across 12 races at six European rounds of the 2024 FIM Superbike World Championship, and the overall champion will earn a supported ride in the 2025 FIM Supersport 300 World Championship provided by Yamaha Motor Europe.
The series gives young riders the perfect platform to benefit from professional coaching, technical support, and mentoring designed to encourage, develop, and nurture the next generation of superbike riders.
The change of status also reflects the fact that the entry list has become increasingly international in recent years, with almost half the riders registered so far in 2024 hailing from outside Europe.
The season gets underway with the opening round on the 22nd-24th of March at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, and updates can be found across the FIM, WorldSBK and Yamaha Racing websites.
Gianluca Montiron: Japan Italy Racing “Work has begun on the new season, and it has given everybody a real boost to have the new name and status change. It reflects the importance of this championship as it continues to provide a platform for riders as young as 14. These future champions gain a wealth of experience during the six world championship events, and thanks to our continued collaboration with the FIM, Yamaha Motor Europe and DWO we are seeing the popularity of the championship increase.”
Paolo Pavesio: Marketing & Motorsport Director, Yamaha Motor Europe “The upgrade to World Cup status for 2024 represents for the R3 bLU cRU Cup more than a symbolic milestone. In 2021, the inaugural season of the R3 series, the grid was predominantly European. However, over the past two seasons we’ve seen more overseas riders joining the R3 series, with the result that the grid is now split evenly between European riders and those from other continents, primarily Asia, South America, and Australaia. With a fixed participation fee and a turnkey package, the series is both cost effective and the ideal stepping-stone onto the world stage for young riders. It has also proved an effective feeder class for the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship, in which nine former bLU cRU riders will race this season. The 2024 season will also be the first in which the FIM Yamaha R3 bLU cRU World Cup races will be streamed live, increasing both the reach and visibility of the series worldwide, and promises to be an exciting one on numerous levels for our bLU cRU youngsters, starting with the opening round in Barcelona. With all this in mind, I’d like to conclude by thanking Jorge Viegas and the FIM, firstly for their support since we started this project but also for recognising the increasingly global reach of the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU series with the upgrade to World Cup status.”
Gregorio Lavilla: Executive Director, Dorna WSBK Organization “We at DWO are thrilled to witness the evolution of the FIM Yamaha R3 bLU cRU World Cup. The transition to World Cup status is a testament to the series’ remarkable growth and the international appeal it has garnered. The collaboration between DWO, Japan Italy Racing, FIM, and Yamaha Motor Europe has proven to be a winning formula, providing a crucial platform for young riders to make their mark on the global stage. We look forward to witnessing the continued success of the FIM Yamaha R3 bLU cRU World Cup and the promising talents it nurtures.”
Jorge Viegas: President, Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme “The FIM remains committed to promoting inclusivity within motorcycling and the FIM Yamaha R3 bLU cRU World Cup is the perfect example of providing opportunities for young riders to join our sport. Over the last three seasons, the popularity of this championship has grown year on year, and due to its ongoing success and the increase in international competitors it has shown that it now deserves to be elevated to FIM World Cup status. I am sure that 2024 will be another great edition of this series.”

Offering full customization of your bike’s power delivery, the ability to save multiple motor set-ups, and taking the guesswork out of suspension set-up, the CUO and GASGAS+ app are a real game-changer for all riders.
New Connectivity Unit Offroad and GASGAS+ app available now
Create and save multiple motor and suspension set-ups to suit different tracks
Improve your riding and technical abilities using the new, free to download GASGAS+ app
Making sure you get maximum performance from your bike is what the new Connectivity Unit Offroad was designed for. After introducing the CUO on the 2024 MC 250F Factory Edition and MC 450F Factory Edition bikes last year, we now want all GASGAS 4-stroke riders to benefit from the latest dirt bike technology. As you play with settings and learn, your riding and technical knowledge will grow together, helping you to develop as both a rider and bike tuner!
Available now, the CUO is easy to fit and once paired with the new GASGAS+ app you can begin tuning the power to suit your style, or the track conditions, using your phone. Multiple set-ups can be saved for future reference and applied at various circuits, saving you time, and making sure you ride with the best performance from your motor. Owners of our 2024 Factory Edition models love the CUO, so if you own a stock 4-stroke GASGAS motocross or cross country bike, you can now benefit from the same technology.
If you’re just looking to perfect your suspension set-up, then the free GASGAS+ app is just what you need to ride in complete comfort on any type of circuit. After guiding you through setting the sag, you can then start from a number of recommended settings for different racetracks, or start from scratch. The choice is yours and you can save multiple set-ups for various conditions. There’s also a virtual garage within the app where you can add and remove your bike or bikes, view owner’s manuals, and record your maintenance and servicing.
The GASGAS+ app has another awesome feature – RIDER. For this to work you’ll need a special front fender to install a GPS sensor (both are also available now as Technical Accessories) and you’ll then be able to record your lap times, analyze everything about how your bike is running, and so much more…
GASGAS+ App features in a little more detail…
ENGINE – Choose between predefined maps based on the track type, and track conditions, or use the ADVANCED mode to create your map from scratch. The ENGINE feature gives you full control of the Engine Braking, Throttle Response, Traction Control, Launch Control, and Quickshifter sensitivity. You can then save all of your favorite mappings and activate the most suitable one when you arrive at each track, then make changes between sessions or races if you need to.
RIDER – Within this feature of the app, which is powered by LITPro and receives data from the CUO and GPS fitted to the front fender, you can review your session or race by downloading the data into the app for detailed analysis. It offers amazing insights into your riding (lap and section analysis, airtime, corner analysis, and Lap99 analysis) and allows you to visualize your engine data at the same time, with up to 15 values selectable (engine RPM, gear position, throttle position, map switch mode, and many more). Once you download the session you can analyze your performance, compare laps, and compete with others on a virtual leaderboard. The RIDER feature is only available as an annual subscription with a four-week trial period, with pricing then starting at €69,99 in Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Prices are dependent on the ordering country.
SUSPENSION – This feature of the app has two main functions. SAG ASSISTANT helps you find the correct SAG for each individual bike. To achieve this, ‘Bike on Stand’ and ‘Bike with Rider’ are asked by the app when setting the sag. By using the SUSPENSION SETTING section, you can then create multiple, personalized suspension set-ups after inputting your weight in riding gear, and track type and condition. The 1:56 club is born as the reigning World Champion lays down the gauntlet and the pace hots up.
Ducati Lenovo Team’s Francesco Bagnaia claimed the bragging rights on the final day of the Sepang Test, and in some style too, obliterating the outright lap record. The reigning World Champion fired in a 1:56.682 during a blistering opening hour of action to better 2023 rival Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing), as last year’s gripping rivalry was renewed early in 2024.
Having finished fastest yesterday, Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) was forced to settle for third but once again proved he’s back to his best – something his team boss, Davide Tardozzi, also wanted to stress. Fourth and the final rider to have broken new ground by posting a 1:56.938 was Gresini Racing’s Alex Marquez.
Ducati Lenovo, Prima Pramac, Pertamina Enduro VR46 & Gresini
There were yet more reasons to smile down at Ducati with their three 2024 machines occupying the top three places, and six of their seven full-time riders sitting in the top eight.
Marc Marquez threw some soft rubber at his Gresini Racing machine on Thursday and he closed out the test within touching distance of the top spots. A 1:57.270 sees the #93 just over half a second behind Bagnaia, but Marquez was still concentrating on “laps, laps, laps” to get to know the bike.
Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team’s Fabio Di Giannantonio was eighth over one lap, but his pace was nothing short of phenomenal. Nine riders did Sprint simulations today and Diggia was the fastest of the lot, ahead of Bastianini and Martin. In terms of the simulations, fifth of the nine Ducati riders, and only a couple of seconds away, came Marc Marquez.
Meanwhile, Marco Bezzecchi has had some struggles in Sepang. A third crash in three days wasn’t ideal as he was just unable to improve on his lap from yesterday and, as a result, finished 15th on the combined standings. But it’s testing yet… and the Rins Cup rolls on to Qatar!
Aprilia & Trackhouse Racing
There were headlines made off-track on Thursday morning with a new signing for the Trackhouse Racing squad – and it’s a familiar face as Davide Brivio returns to the paddock to take the reigns at the American team.
Still, it was another day of two halves for Aprilia. On one side, Aleix Espargaro hailed it “the best test” he’s ever had with the Noale factory, and you can understand why. The #41 claimed the final spot inside the top after punching in a 1:57.091, and his pace wasn’t bad either. He was fourth of the Sprint simulations and only a second away from 2023’s Sprint King, Martin.
Meanwhile on the other side, after complaining of a lack of rear grip yesterday, no many in-roads were made today. Maverick Viñales closed out the three days in 12th and is looking for more, whilst Miguel Oliveira (Trackhouse Racing) was 18th. Still, there are two days left in Qatar.
Red Bull KTM & Red Bull GASGAS Tech3
Another day were all of the headlines coming out of the Austrian camp and down to the remarkable efforts of Pedro Acosta. Although Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) finished ahead of him on the combined standings, Acosta closed the gap down to just 0.058 seconds to the orange army’s star man.
The rookie’s Sprint simulation is also worthy of a mention. Faster over 9 laps than Bagnaia and less than a second adrift of the incredibly experienced Marc Marquez and Aleix Espargaro. A reminder: today was just day seven on a MotoGP™ machine.
Aussie Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) rounds out the three days 1.1 seconds adrift of top spot in 14th, whilst there’s work to do for Augusto Fernandez (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) who finished 21st and over two seconds behind.
Repsol Honda & CASTROL/IDEMITSU Honda LCR
Repsol Honda’s Joan Mir closed out the Sepang Test inside the top ten after going under the pole position lap from last year – positive signs for the Japanese factory. But despite Mir’s 1.1 second improvement over one lap, he wanted to stress the need for further work over a longer distance. Takaaki Nakagami (IDEMITSU Honda LCR) fired in a 1:57.765 to end 13th, ahead of Johann Zarco and Luca Marini in 17th and 19th, but Marini was also confident of more to come in the Qatar Test.
Monster Energy Yamaha
There are clear signs of progress at Yamaha too, but one search remains: that of one-lap pace. It’s something already mentioned on Day 2 and the mission continued, and will continue in Qatar.
On the timesheets, Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) was 11th, hoping for a further step next time out in Qatar, and Alex Rins was 16th and 1.1 seconds away from Bagnaia’s record-breaking lap.
That’s official a wrap on the Sepang Test! Make sure you join us on motogp.com to debrief all the action, and then we’re on the road to Lusail International Circuit in Qatar for two more days of testing in a week and a half. Join us then for more!

Shed & Buried supremos Henry Cole and Fuzz Townshend team-up with workshop wonders Allen Millyard and Guy Willison for eight one-hour specials with a focus on four-wheelers.
Henry Cole, Britain’s most enthusiastic TV biker, is turning his attention from two wheels to four this spring, for eight special one-hour episodes of Shed & Buried.
Shed & Buried: Classic Cars sees Henry team-up with Fuzz Townshend once again. The duo will be doing what they do best: digging in the nation’s sheds, barns and outbuildings, this time to (hopefully) find a tidy profit in some vintage motors.
Henry’s love of motorbikes and tractors is well-known, but he still has a soft spot for classic cars. Fuzz – who has an encyclopaedic knowledge of all things automotive – is the perfect partner to help him unearth some classic four-wheelers and turn them into nice little earners.
That’s only half the battle – once their finds are back in the shed, restorer extraordinaire Guy Willison and engineering genius Allen Millyard will be put to the test, turning the rusty wrecks the lads have unearthed into right royal runners.
As always, Henry will need to keep Fuzz focused, to make sure he doesn’t buy an obscure vintage bus or lorry. Fuzz will have to keep an eye on Henry too, as he’s usually done a deal before Fuzz can even lift the bonnet.
“Fuzz might have to steer me away from a few two-wheelers while he’s at it, as old habits die hard” says Henry. “I’m hoping to sneak the odd classic bike past him on the QT”.
We can’t guarantee they’ll turn a profit, but there will be plenty of entertainment, when the team take the restored cars for a test ride in their natural environment.
Shed & Buried: Classic Cars is due to be shown Quest (Freeview channel number 12) starting 7th March 2024.
Suzuki is giving away £1000 worth of free accessories to customers of its V-Strom 1050 and V-Strom 1050DE, including the Tour versions that already come equipped with full aluminium luggage.
It means buyers can finely tailor their adventure machine to their needs. Hardier riders tackling the rough stuff can add protection in the form of sump guards and engine bars, and fit robust off-road foot pegs. Or, those taking on big mileage in all weathers can equip their V-Strom with heated grips, fog lamps, or a taller screen.
A comprehensive accessories catalogue also includes higher and lower seat options, plastic luggage, tank bags in two sizes, and mirror extenders.
Both the V-Strom 1050 and 1050DE use the same proven 1037cc V-twin engine, and feature a colour TFT screen, have lean angle sensitive ABS, multiple power and traction control modes, cruise control and a bi-directional quickshifter.
The 1050DE adds 21” and 17” spoked wheels and taller suspension with more travel and ground clearance, an off-road traction control setting, and and can also have its rear ABS disengaged.
The Tour variants of both come with full aluminium luggage as standard, with a combined carrying capacity of 122 litres.
Trackhouse Racing MotoGP makes its first significant mark of the fledgling 2024 season, appointing one of the most respected team leaders in the world of motorsports as its Team Principal.
Fresh from his foray into the Formula 1 Paddock, Trackhouse welcomes Davide back to the MotoGP World Championship as its team leader, bringing him straight into its rookie season campaign from the get-go.
Davide’s reputation and achievements at the very pinnacle of two-wheel World Championship racing hardly need any introduction. A talismanic figure, respected for the five MotoGP Riders World Championships and four Constructor’s titles achieved under his watch – with two different brands – Trackhouse moved to secure Davide’s experience the moment his interest in the team’s new project became clear.
Davide’s most recent MotoGP World Championship came in 2020 before his bombshell departure from the Paddock and into Formula 1, MotoGP’s equivalent on four-wheels.
Bringing Davide’s leadership to the Team continues a relentless pursuit for competitiveness on the part of Trackhouse founder and owner, Justin Marks. From setting out his vision to grow the Trackhouse Entertainment Group operations beyond its successful start in NASCAR – the premier US auto racing series – to entry into the global phenomenon that MotoGP now represents, Marks continues to carve a unique path through the motorsports industry.
Joining the Championship as racing partner with Aprilia and immediately committing to running its latest 2024 spec RS-GP bikes for #88 Miguel Oliveira from the start of the season and another two for #25 Raul Fernandez, soon to follow, was the Team’s first statement of intent.
Securing the services of Wilco Zeelenberg with a highly experienced and professional crew in the pit garage, plugging in the resources of the Trackhouse commercial and marketing arms back at the Group’s headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee and the Team’s racing management resources from its race shop in Charlotte, North Carolina were the next steps. Now, the hiring of a proven leader in MotoGP is the latest move, all taking shape in quick time, to underpin Justin’s plans.
Davide Brivio’s biography starts in Monza, Northern Italy, from where he hails. Born into a country infused with the deepest passion for motor racing, Davide quickly found motorcycles. Initially, cutting his competitive teeth in motocross before the heat of battle gave way to his aspirations within the inner workings of running a racing team. Circuit racing embraced him and the trophies soon followed.
His two-year hiatus, moving to a stint with four wheels, has not blunted his love of MotoGP and he returns to the Paddock hungry to add to his trophy cabinet with Trackhouse.
Welcome to the House, Davide – we cannot wait to go racing with you from our debut in 2024.
DAVIDE BRIVIO – TEAM PRINCIPAL
“It all happened very quickly in the last days with Justin asking me to help Trackhouse in the MotoGP challenge. It’s so exciting to be a part of this new project since the beginning and I’m really looking forward to get to know Trackhouse more and see what we can bring in MotoGP from the successful vision and experience that this company has in other sports and environments. It could be a great combination of the two worlds. Now, it’s just one more test to go, almost time to go racing and we will try to support as much as we can our two talented riders Miguel and Raul and have fun. In the last few days everything has happened very quickly and before I could not say where I was going but hey, it’s great news and we will start working quickly!”
JUSTIN MARKS – TEAM OWNER
“It’s incredible to have someone of Davide’s caliber and experience leading the Trackhouse Racing MotoGP Team. All of us at the company are humbled by the commitment he has made. It became apparent the moment I met Davide that he would be someone that fits perfectly in the Trackhouse culture. I know he will lead us to great things on and off the racetrack.”
MotoAmerica, North America’s premier motorcycle road racing series, is excited to announce that an additional round of the 2024 Mission King Of The Baggers Championship has been added with the thundering V-twins set to do battle as a support race to the third round of the FIM MotoGP World Championship at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas, April 12-13.
The COTA round will mark the first time that an international audience will see the King Of The Baggers up close and personal as people converge on Austin from around the globe to attend the Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas.
The two Mission King Of The Baggers Presented By Drag Specialties races at COTA will pay full championship points and will be the second round of what is now an 18-race 2024 Mission King Of The Baggers Championship. In addition to the two points-paying races on Saturday, there will also be a three-lap Mission Challenge on Friday afternoon with the six fastest qualifiers battling for a $5000 winner-take-all purse.
“This is a great opportunity for MotoAmerica and our King Of The Baggers series,” said MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey. “Having our teams and riders compete at a MotoGP event is groundbreaking and I know the MotoGP fans are going to be surprised and excited about what they see at COTA. I want to thank those at MotoGP who assisted in putting this together, as well as our sponsors Mission Foods and Parts Unlimited and the manufacturers. I can’t wait to see the reaction of the MotoGP paddock and fans when they see the Baggers in action.”
The Mission King Of The Baggers Presented By Drag Specialties races will air live on MotoGP’s YouTube Channel, MotoAmerica Live+, MAVTV and MotoAmerica’s YouTube channels.
The Mission King Of The Baggers series will return to COTA, September 13-15, along with the Steel Commander Superbike, Supersport, BellissiMoto Twins Cup and the Super Hooligan National Championship for what will be the penultimate round of the 2024 MotoAmerica Championship.
The laptimes tumble on Wednesday as the 1:57 club expands and the ‘Beast’ takes to the top
Ducati Lenovo Team’s Enea Bastianini produced late brilliance on Day 2 of the Sepang Test, claiming top spot thanks to a new, albeit unofficial, outright lap record. Five riders all bettered 2023 Champion Pecco Bagnaia’s (Ducati Lenovo Team) pole position lap from late last year, with The Beast firing in a historic 1:57.134 to once again prove his pace in Malaysia.
Prima Pramac Racing’s Jorge Martin had to settle for second in the end after leading the pack for the vast majority of the day. The Spaniard finished 0.139 seconds adrift of 2023 Malaysian Grand Prix winner Bastianini. KTM and Aprilia were hot on the heels of the Ducati duo too, with Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) completing the top three ahead of Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing).
After an under-the-radar opening day in Sepang, 2023 World Champion Bagnaia also joined the party, claiming the final spot inside the top five with a 1:57.469, leaving him just over three tenths behind his teammate.
Ducati Lenovo, Prima Pramac, Pertamina Enduro VR46 & Gresini
Bastianini, Martin and Bagnaia all put themselves under the lap record on Wednesday, with all three doing their laps with the Bologna factory’s much-improved new engine. The bulk of their work was focused on aerodynamics, however, with a united consensus yet to be reached. Michele Pirro was also back out subbing for Franco Morbidelli.
A late tumble for Marco Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) couldn’t dampen what was otherwise another positive day for The Doctor’s squad. The #72 rounded out Day 2 in ninth place, and ahead of one name he had his eye on, whilst Fabio Di Giannantonio continued to impress. The Italian was one of the riders on top form in the second half of 2023, and he’s carried that momentum into 2024 despite the team switch.
Nobody did more laps than Gresini Racing’s Marc Marquez as he looked to make up for some lost time yesterday after a couple of small issues. The eight-time World Champion clocked 72 laps in total, 10 of which were an impressive Tissot Sprint simulation alongside his teammate. The #93 was just over 2 seconds quicker than the Sprint-winning time in 2023. But Alex Marquez on the #73 was a further two seconds quicker again…
Red Bull KTM & Red Bull GASGAS Tech3
Binder led the charge on Wednesday, but superstar rookie Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) found yet another step forward, posting a 1:57.726 – a lap good enough for the middle of the second row of the grid in 2023. Big smiles for his side of the box! It was a tougher day on the other side, however, with Augusto Fernandez frustrated at his lack of progress after a couple of issues lost him some time. Steps forward, he reported, but not fast enough yet.
On the orange side, Jack Miller joined Binder in working their way through KTM’s various aerodynamic upgrades. The Australian finished 15th as the two take up the workload first refined by test riders Dani Pedrosa and Pol Espargaro in the Shakedown.
Aprilia & Trackhouse Racing
There were some contrasting emotions in the factory Aprilia box with Aleix Espargaro taking that impressive fourth, whilst Maverick Viñales was struggling with rear grip and, as a result, didn’t push for a time attack. But he reported the aim, regardless, is to be fast all year, not just one lap. The Spaniard was 18th today, one place and one tenth ahead of a similarly frustrated Miguel Oliveira. Trackhouse Racing’s Oliveira, still, said Espargaro’s fast lap was good to see for the whole squad as each work on their own programmes.
The trio also lapped together in the midday sun, ostensibly to check out the effect of the slipstream and potentially to put the machine through its paces in the heat, something that was tricky for the factory at times in 2023. Lorenzo Savadori, meanwhile, is the replacement for Raul Fernandez at Trackhouse for the rest of this test as Fernandez recovers from a crash on Day 1, with nothing broken but precaution the name of the game.
Repsol Honda & CASTROL/IDEMITSU Honda LCR
Repsol Honda’s Luca Marini and Idemitsu LCR Honda’s Takaaki Nakagami put together the longest runs of anyone on Wednesday: 13 consecutive laps apiece. 10 of Marini’s laps were in the 1:59s, compared to only two 1:59s between all four Honda riders in last year’s Sprint and Grand Prix.
Joan Mir (Repsol Honda Team) was also able to put in a headline laptime, taking the final spot in top ten. The 2020 World Champion was six tenths quicker than his Q1 performance last year, but reiterated that a lot of work is still to be done. Johann Zarco (CASTROL Honda LCR), meanwhile, was another tenth and a half off Mir – but he’s been the Honda rider most praising the leap already made.
Monster Energy Yamaha
Electronics was the key focus for Yamaha, but Fabio Quartararo was left wanting a little more. The Frenchman managed to improve on his best lap from last year’s Malaysian Grand Prix but he was still three quarters of a second adrift of top spot. He said they’re still suffering a lack of pace during time attacks, something they’ll continue working on. The 2021 World Champion could only manage 11th today, with his new teammate Alex Rins a quarter of a second further back in 13th. But on the speed trap, there was a big ray of light for the Iwata marque as Quartararo was the outright quickest.

The 2023 title challenger sets the benchmark as the rookie continues to shine.
Prima Pramac Racing’s Jorge Martin seemed out to lay down a marker on Day 1 of official track action at the Sepang Test, and that he did. The Spaniard fired in an impressive 1:57.951 after only two hours of running on Tuesday morning, which is only half a second adrift of the fastest-ever lap of Sepang. It remained untouched for the remainder of the day.
In hot pursuit came another headline-maker of late: Red Bull GASGAS Tech3’s Pedro Acosta. The rookie all-but matched his best lap from the Shakedown to take second overall, continuing to impress. Only 0.008 of a second behind Acosta comes 2021 Champion Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) in third, finishing the first day of the test only two tenths adrift of his best lap from the 2023 Malaysian Grand Prix – promising early signs as the Japanese factory look to make leaps forward in 2024.
It was a tougher day for two riders likely to be key title rivals in 2024: reigning World Champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) and eight-time World Champion Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™). Pecco crashed out at Turn 11 on his very first lap of the day, whilst Marquez had to contend with some small technical issues. The #1 ended up 16th and the #93 found a late lap to finish ninth. Still, it’s Day 1 and their focus remains far from time attacks thus far…
Ducati Lenovo, Prima Pramac, Pertamina Enduro VR46 & Gresini
Seven of Ducati’s eight full-time riders hit the track on Tuesday as Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing) continues his recovery from a training crash at Portimao, sitting it out until the first race weekend of the year as a precaution. He was replaced by Michele Pirro.
Ducati occupied seven places in the top ten on a positive opening day for the Bologna factory. For Martin, Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team), work continued on their 2024 engine, which received rave reviews at the Valencia Test in late November. No sign for the moment of the wildly new aerodynamics package that Gigi Dall’Igna teased at their Official Launch, however, only the updated side fairings seen at the Shakedown.
Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing’s Fabio Di Giannatonio closed out the opening day in fourth, with now-teammate Marco Bezzecchi in eighth despite a late crash at Turn 4 with half an hour left on the clock. Gresini Racing’s Alex Marquez was just over half a second adrift in seventh. They’re all focused on adapting to the new-to-them 2023 machine.
Red Bull KTM & Red Bull GASGAS Tech3
As Acosta continued to grab headlines at the sharp end of the timesheets, both Brad Binder and Jack Miller went to work for the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing squad, after Dani Pedrosa reportedly did a first run through to wean out the best new parts at the Shakedown. Augusto Fernandez (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) was also out on track for the first time in 2024.
Nobody did more laps on Tuesday than Miller, who totalled a dizzying 69. The Austrian factory focused their attentions on electronics and a new exhaust system, as well as some aerodynamic and engine updates as they look to close that gap to Ducati – a smaller task than anyone else as of the end of 2023.
Aprilia & Trackhouse Racing
After not bringing much outwardly new to the Valencia Test, the Noale squad have been busy over the winter with new aero, engine, swingarms and chassis all on show on Tuesday. Maverick Viñales was fastest of the lot with a 1:58.470 to leave himself sixth on Day 1, with Aleix Espargaro P13 and Trackhouse Racing’s Miguel Oliveira in P15.
Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse Racing) only managed 21 laps in the end after a highside in the opening 15 minutes of the day. He did get back out on track but then headed for further checks at local hospital.
Monster Energy Yamaha
We saw a few updates from Yamaha at the Shakedown, and they will be pleased to see Quartararo sitting third on the timesheets and new recruit Alex Rins just outside the top ten in 11th after Day 1 of the Sepang Test proper. The Iwata factory’s main focus on the opening day was aero, as well as fine-tuning their new and improved engine. There was also a new tail unit in use, and the marque had Cal Crutchlow joining test duty once again.
Repsol Honda & CASTROL/IDEMITSU Honda LCR
There was a lot going on down at HRC on Tuesday. Brand new swingarms, aero, engines and chassis are just the start of a totally revamped RC213V. And the early signs are positive with Johann Zarco (CSATROL Honda LCR) claiming the final spot inside the top ten on the timesheets. For a completely new bike – with Joan Mir (Repsol Honda Team) confirming they’d not even brought the 2023 machine to Malaysia – that’s a positive first day. Mir was P14, new teammate Luca Marini P17 and Takaaki Nakagami (IDEMITSU Honda LCR) P20.
That’s a wrap on Day 1! There’s more action on Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 local time (UTC+8) until 18:00
The time has come! The entire 2024 grid gets ready to head out in Malaysia.
After a star-studded Shakedown that saw rookie sensation Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) top the timesheets, it’s time for the whole grid to join the number 31 out on track. So far we’ve already seen the race riders from Honda and Yamaha head out thanks to the new concession system, but now we get even more headliners – including reigning Champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) and now-Gresini Racing MotoGP™ rider Marc Marquez. So where can you stay up to date and what can we expect on track?
HOW TO FOLLOW THE ACTION
Live Timing is available on motogp.com across all three days, and there will be live text updates on motogp.com with minute-by-minute updates before an end of day round-up.
There will also be a live show beamed from Sepang across MotoGP™’s social media channels at 14:00 local time every day, hosted by Jack Gorst and Simon Crafar, to debrief the key moments and get to the heart of the action.
Then, from 17:30 local time every day until 19:00, After The Flag will be live on VideoPass to provide a full overview of the day’s action. Pitlane reporter and 500cc Grand Prix winner Crafar will once again be joined by eagle-eyed tech reporter Gorst in Malaysia, and the show in Barcelona will be anchored by Louis Suddaby and Elliott York to analyse all the action alongside exclusive interviews with riders and team managers.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Ducati Lenovo, Prima Pramac, Pertamina Enduro VR46 & Gresini
A lot of eyes will be on Bagnaia, and 2023 Malaysian GP winner Enea Bastianini alongside him in the Ducati Lenovo Team box, as a new campaign begins. We saw updated aero from Ducati at the Shakedown, put through its paces by test rider Michele Pirro, and now it’s all hands on deck to define and refine the machine the Bologna factory will field in 2024.
At Prima Pramac the task will be similar for Jorge Martin, who will want to hit the ground running as he aims to fight for the title again. However, we wait to see if his new teammate Franco Morbidelli will be out on track after the Italian suffered a crash during a private track day in Portugal and continues his recovery.
At Pertamina Enduro VR46, those fluo yellow and white vibes will accompany Marco Bezzecchi, who’ll be trying to tune in and get to grips with the slightly different 2023 machine, and the incoming Fabio Di Giannantonio the same. Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) likewise gets his hands on the bike that fought for the title last year, and so does his new teammate…
Marc Marquez was already fourth fastest in Valencia after switching from Honda to Ducati machinery, and now there are three more days of track action ahead for the number 93 to settle in, find and learn the limits, and see if he can redefine them. On the 2023 machine for this season, the eight-time Champion faces down the biggest sporting challenge of his career for a decade – and we can’t wait to see what happens.
Red Bull KTM & Red Bull GASGAS Tech3
The RC16 topped all three days of the Shakedown, first with MotoGP™ Legend Dani Pedrosa, then with new test rider Pol Espargaro, and finally in the hands of superstar rookie Pedro Acosta. We saw new aero from the Austrian factory and we also saw Acosta running the carbon chassis, which could be a clue that’s their intended direction overall.
Now it’s time for Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), teammate Jack Miller and sophomore Augusto Fernandez (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) to join the fray as the marque push to breach that gap to Ducati. Acosta, meanwhile, now gains a host more benchmarks on the timesheets, and has three more whole days in Sepang to learn his way round the premier class.
Aprilia & Trackhouse Racing
At Aprilia, we’ve also seen new aero during the Shakedown, with test rider Lorenzo Savadori at the helm. Now it’s time for factory riders Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Viñales to head out and start defining what they’ll race in 2024, alongside Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez at the new Trackhouse team. Aprilia were close to the top in terms of speed for much of 2023, but they’ll want more. And they’ll want to iron out the hurdles that seemed to keep pausing their upward trajectory at times last season.
At Trackhouse too, although we’ll likely see plenty of black fairings in testing, we hope we’ll also see that new, very American livery recently launched in LA.
Monster Energy Yamaha
We saw a few updates from Yamaha at the Shakedown. A new aero body, an updated tail unit and that longer exhaust were all on show, with test rider Cal Crutchlow on track on Day 1 before being joined by 2021 Champion Fabio Quartararo and new Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™ teammate Alex Rins for the rest of the test. After a difficult 2023, the race is on for the factory to leverage those concessions and try and bridge the gap, and Rins will be an interesting addition to the fold with race-winning form on an inline four and a V4 in only the past couple of seasons…
Repsol Honda & CASTROL/IDEMITSU Honda LCR
Like Yamaha, Honda were able to field their race riders at the Shakedown, and like Yamaha, they sat out Day 1 before the full flotilla joined the fray. Joan Mir (Repsol Honda Team) confirmed they’d had no 2023 bike in the box, with a true new direction chosen and work all focused on that. The mood was markedly lighter as the behemoths aim to get back on top.
They’ll continue to count on Mir, a MotoGP™ World Champion and with some experience with the marque, and long-time HRC rider Takaaki Nakagami at IDEMITSU Honda LCR. They gain Johann Zarco (CASTROL Honda LCR), with his wealth of experience on different machines, and finally, Luca Marini joins Repsol Honda. The Italian now has some good MotoGP™ experience, is known for his love of data, and has built a reputation around relentlessly putting the pieces together to improve. Where will the Japanese giants be by the end of the first official test?
We’ll find out soon as the test takes over Sepang from Tuesday the 6th until Thursday the 8th of February, with the track action running from 10:00 local time (UTC+8) until 18:00 each day… so make sure you join us!

Today, Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP unveiled their team line-up in Sepang, Malaysia.
They opened their garage doors to a select group of media representatives, who were given the opportunity to speak with new teammates Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins ahead of the 2024 MotoGP season and take a close-up look at the 2024 Yamaha YZR-M1 bikes.
Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. and Yamaha Motor Racing showed their desire for renewed success today at the Sepang International Circuit as the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP team opened their garage doors to a select group of media representatives.
The colour scheme of the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP YZR-M1, the pit box, the riders’ leathers, and the team clothing had stayed the same. The most instantly notable changes were the livery featuring some new sponsors and Yamaha’s updates on the personnel and organisational front.
Fabio Quartararo remains a fan favourite and is determined to come back fighting to make 2024 his year. This season he is joined by new teammate Álex Rins, who brings a ton of fresh technical and riding expertise to the team.
Besides Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP’s new rider line-up, the Yamaha management also underwent some changes for 2024. General Manager Motor Sports Development Division of Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. Takahiro Sumi will now be working closely with new Yamaha YZR-M1 Project Leader Kazuhiro Masuda and new Yamaha Factory Racing Technical Director Massimo Bartolini.
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team Principal & Yamaha Motor Racing Managing Director Lin Jarvis and Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team Director Massimo Meregalli remain at the helm of the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP equipe, while the Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Test Team and its rider Cal Crutchlow will be led by Kazutoshi Seki in 2024.
With a refreshed company structure in place, all those involved in the MotoGP project are fully motivated to make big steps this season.
Throughout 2024, the Factory Yamaha MotoGP team can once again count on team title sponsor Monster Energy Company‘s full support. Yamaha has a long-term global alliance with Monster Energy Company based on their mutual passion for racing. Yamaha and Monster Energy’s strong multi-year relationship is evident in the iconic and instantly recognisable Monster claw branding prominently displayed in the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP team logo, on the team uniforms, and on the bikes. The 2024 bike livery again consists of the camouflage look that perfectly blends Yamaha’s colours with the adventurous lifestyle colour scheme of Monster Energy.
During the 2024 MEYM Season Launch event, Quartararo and Rins expressed their high motivation for the MotoGP Official Sepang Test (6-8 February) and the MotoGP Official Qatar Test (19-20 February) where they will try various testing items before the MotoGP season kicks off with the Grand Prix of Qatar (8-10 March).
The upcoming MotoGP season is shaping up to be a big one, currently projected to count 21 GP rounds and 42 races, as the MotoGP race weekend format will once more consist of a MotoGP Sprint on the Saturday and a MotoGP Race on the Sunday.
TAKAHIRO SUMI
GM, Motor Sports Development Div., Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd
As many will know, YMC’s Motor Sports Development Division’s work towards renewed success in 2024 started already before the 2023 season ended. Yamaha’s main goal is and will always be to bring Kando* to its customers and fans. It therefore goes without saying that the company is fully dedicated to the cause of bringing the MotoGP trophy back to Yamaha with our new global team power. Based on the riders’ feedback, we have been working tirelessly to find new ways to improve our bike, and we know that Fabio and Álex as well as test rider Cal are keen to put the new 2024-spec bike to the test. It will be a long season again, but we are ready to put in the work and to compete head-on.
*Kando: A Japanese word for the simultaneous feelings of deep satisfaction and intense excitement that we experience when we encounter something of exceptional value.
LIN JARVIS Managing Director, Yamaha Motor Racing
Last year was a tough season, but we have regrouped, restructured our organisation, and now we are ready to make a comeback. Having made significant changes to our MotoGP project team and with a new rider line-up, the team feel refreshed and ready to tackle the 2024 season. The Yamaha engineers have been working around the clock during the ‘winter break’ and kept developing the bike. So, though the livery remains the same for this season, there is much more to the 2024-spec M1 than is apparent at first glance.
Another constant, which we are really grateful for, is the strong relationship with our official sponsors and partners. We are entering our twelfth year with Monster Energy Company as our sponsor and the sixth season with them as title sponsor. We are thankful to them and to our other official team sponsors, partners, and suppliers, with many of whom we have had long-term partnerships, for showing their full support to our project and our mission to excel in the super innovative, technically and physically challenging sport of MotoGP racing.
At the start of the 2024 championship, we face 3 preseason tests followed by a 21-event calendar with 42 individual races, including the Sprints and main Races.
In addition to that we have numerous IRTA tests throughout the season as well as many private tests where we can now use our GP riders due to the application of the new Concession rules for 2024.
So, it will be a long and intense season, where both performance and endurance will count to achieve championship success.
Having already started with the ‘Shakedown Test’, we will now begin the real season with the Official Sepang IRTA Test, which is where we can evaluate our performance versus our competitors.
I believe this year will be one of the most exciting MotoGP seasons in recent times, and I hope the fans all around the world will enjoy the battles over the next 10 months.
Let’s get started!
FABIO QUARTARARO
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Rider
It’s the start of the new season – that’s always exciting! Everyone is starting from zero points again, and I know both the team and I are super motivated to get as much work done as possible during the Sepang Test. A good start to 2024 – even if it’s just preseason tests – can result in a big advantage later on. So, as always, we will put everything we have into every day, every session, every run, and every lap. I know Yamaha has been working hard behind the scenes, so I think that if we keep pushing ourselves to the limit in all aspects, we should be able to have a great year together. I want to fight at the front, and I want to greet my fans from the top step of the podium again!
ÁLEX RINS
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Rider
I already had my first taste of the M1 working with the Yamaha team at the Valencia Test and the Shakedown Test, but today’s 2024 MEYM Season Launch event makes me feel excited again as if it’s the first day. We had a good first run at the test in Valencia, so I was quite happy with that, and I can’t wait to continue the work here in Sepang tomorrow. I have many things to try, but I’m feeling confident. The bike seems easy to adapt to, so I think I will be able to make some further steps at the Sepang Test. I have been working a lot on my physical fitness to arrive here at the best possible level, and now all I want to do is start riding again!
Fuel prices stop falling in January – but RAC finds 14p difference between supermarkets’ cheapest and most expensive prices.
After three months of falling fuel prices, data from RAC Fuel Watch* shows prices at the pump have ground to a halt but analysis of government data reveals there is currently a 14p difference between the highest and lowest-priced supermarket petrol.
The average price of a litre of unleaded stayed at 140.5p in January while diesel remained at 148.5p, making full tanks £77.24 and £81.73p. In Northern Ireland however, petrol was 4.2p cheaper than the UK average at 136.2p by the end of the month and diesel was 3.5p lower at 144.9p, showing drivers are still not being charged a fair price across the whole of the country.
This is further emphasised by Costco pricing their petrol at an average of 130p and diesel at 139.6p. Meanwhile, independently run forecourt Grindley Brook in Whitchurch, Shropshire, is only charging 133.9p for petrol – nearly 7p less than the UK average. This has forced three nearby retailers to compete by pricing their unleaded at 136.9p, again well below the average price across the country.
Analysing the prices charged by the big four supermarkets that dominate UK fuel retailing via the Government’s voluntary price reporting scheme, the RAC has found wildly different prices are being charged from place to place.
On 31 January there was 14p difference between the cheapest supermarket fuel and the most expensive. The cheapest litre of unleaded found by the RAC was sold by Sainsbury’s for 131.9p in Oxford and Newport, with the most expensive being Morrisons at 145.9p in Exeter and Ipswich. While the average difference between a litre of petrol at a supermarket was nearly 12p (11.6p), Tesco had the smallest gap – 8p – between its low of 138.2p and its high of 142.9p.

The wholesale prices of both petrol and diesel increased by 3p and 4p respectively in January on the back of oil rising to more than $80 for the first time since the end of November.
RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said: “While petrol is at its lowest point for well over two years, January unfortunately brought an end to three consecutive months of falling prices at the pumps.
“It is still concerning to see that fuel remains considerably cheaper in Northern Ireland and that the supermarkets are charging wildly different prices for identical petrol and diesel at different locations around the UK.
“The data retailers are voluntarily providing to the Competition and Markets Authority has shed a whole new light on the pump price postcode lottery. It seems blatantly wrong to us that the very same petrol or diesel can vary in price by as much as 14p a litre, depending on where drivers are filling up.
“Hopefully this will be addressed by the new price monitoring body recommended in the CMA’s report when it’s eventually set up, along with ‘rocket and feather’ pricing where retailers are too slow at passing on the savings from lower wholesale prices to their forecourts. We really can’t afford to have a repeat of 2022 where the CMA concluded drivers had been overcharged by major retailers to the tune of £900m. The question is how soon such a body is realistically going to be established, especially with a General Election on the horizon.
“Despite the attacks on tankers in the Red Sea the oil market appears relatively stable on the back of weaker global demand. Positively for drivers, analysts aren’t forecasting much short-term change from the current barrel price of $82.
“Interestingly, the recent rise in the price of a barrel has had the effect of squeezing bloated supermarket margins by around 3p a litre. This means drivers are now getting a slightly fairer deal when they fill up, but the big question is whether they will be content to operate at this level or whether they will look to get back to an average margin of around 10p, which is in stark contrast to the 3.5p they made on a litre in 2019.”
Up to nine searches a day can be made over a two, five or 10-mile radius, with each giving the five cheapest prices.
The web page has more information about the average price of petrol and diesel at the big four supermarkets and at motorway services. It also features graphs showing average prices since 2000 as well as a daily financial breakdown of the cost of a litre of petrol and diesel.
Slimmed-down and restructured company is better prepared for future developments
After an absence of more than a year and a half, founder Jonathan Åström has taken back the reins at RGNT Motorcycles, the EV motorbike company he founded in 2019. Together with CTO & Head of Design Alexander Lewandowski, and head of marketing & sales Gideon Schipaanboord he created a new company, RGNT Reborn, that bought the IP, tooling and the remaining bikes and parts. Led by the trio, the company is making a relaunch in slimmed-down form, with only a core team at the helm.
Better equipped
The focus of the new management team for the coming period is on two pillars: selling the existing stock and developing the third-generation RGNT models, scheduled for Q3 this year. Åström says: ‘With this new structure, we are better equipped than ever to secure the company’s future. We will try to keep our pan-European dealer and service network fully intact and will be further expanded in the coming period. This way, existing riders can continue to count on the service and support they expect from RGNT, while we welcome new riders to our brand in the meantime.’
Shared R&D
In the new company structure, the R&D team is shared with another entity, providing flexibility and at the same time a lower cost structure. This eliminates the need for continuous investment rounds as in the past, allowing the company to bear its day-to-day operational costs. This makes the company more resilient and resistant to changing market conditions. Åström says: ‘With this move and restructuring, we have prepared RGNT for an even more successful future. And Gideon, Alexander, and I can’t wait to make that future a reality!
