Fermin Aldeguer (Sync SpeedUp) went on a serious run at the end of 2023, and despite that not ultimately proving enough to challenge for the crown, it was enough to make most believe he starts 2024 as the favourite for this one.
His performances in testing also did little to dispel that as the Pirelli era begins, but there is a strong field looking to get in the way.
Last year’s runner up Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) will be looking to go one better, and Aron Canet (Fantic Racing) wants that race win – and then another, and another in a serious challenge for the crown. Celestino Vietti also moves to the coveted Red Bull KTM Ajo seat left by reigning Champion Pedro Acosta, and there’s more teased by testing: Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing) was just 0.044s adrift of Aldeguer, and Manuel Gonzalez (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™) within the same tenth in third. Add in the likes of long-term frontrunners Jake Dixon (CFMoto Aspar Team) and Alonso Lopez (Sync SpeedUp) and the season promises much.
The rookies, meanwhile, are an interesting bunch too. Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Deniz Öncü was top of the debutants in Jerez, but he’ll be battling a raft of former rivals in the fight for Rookie of the Year: reigning Moto3™ Champion Jaume Masia (Pertamina Mandalika GAS UP Team), runner up Ayumu Sasaki (Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team), Mario Aji (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia), Xavi Artigas (KLINT Forward Factory Team) and Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team), as well as European Moto2™ Champ Senna Agius (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP).
The first showdown kicks off just before sundown in Qatar, so tune in for the first Moto2™ race of the year this Sunday!
Six of the top 10 from last year return to Moto3™ for another season, with 2023’s star rookie David Alonso (CFMOTO Aspar Team) likely a favourite on the way in, but fellow sophomore Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) was quickest in testing.
Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3), meanwhile, enters his third season as another pre-season favourite after leading the way for much of 2023, and the likes of Ivan Ortola (MT Helmets – MSI) and Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) have already shown their speed at the front and won Grands Prix.
Then there are those with podiums looking for wins, like David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports), his new teammate Joel Kelso and Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia), as well as the veterans like Tatsuki Suzuki, now at Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP, who have a point to prove too.
In terms of rookies, we wait to see if 2023 Red Bull MotoGP™ Rookies Cup and JuniorGP™ title winner Angel Piqueras will be passed fit to debut with Leopard Racing after a pre-season training injury, and we know we’ll have to wait to see Xabi Zurutuza at Red Bull KTM Ajo as he is not yet at the age limit. Tatchakorn Buasri (Honda Team Asia), Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse), Jacob Roulstone (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3), Noah Dettwiler (CIP Green Power) and Joel Esteban (CFMOTO Aspar Team) complete the list of exciting rookies to enter the Grand Prix scene. David Almansa (Rivacold Snipers Team) has already made too many appearances to fight for Rookie of the Year.
Who will take those first 25 points? Tune in for the season opener on Sunday as we find out!

Electrifying Milestone for Molicel: Stark Future Makes History as First Electric Vehicle Manufacturer Winning Over Combustion in Motocross Track Racing Championship
In a groundbreaking turn of events, at the 2024 British Arenacross Championship, Stark Future has rewritten the narrative of track racing championships. For the first time in history, an electric vehicle, powered by Molicel’s cutting-edge ultra-high-power battery technology has outperformed its combustion counterparts, marking a historic moment in the evolution of motorsports.
Arenacross, a captivating blend of indoor Motocross with technical and compact track racing, provided the backdrop for Stark Future’s remarkable journey to success. Holding a steady lead, Jack Brunell surged ahead of the competition, boasting a remarkable 34-point gap over the runner-up—a striking improvement from the mere 86-point score of the 2023 championship winner. Underscoring Stark Future’s substantial progress in the sport.
Jack Brunell, Justin Bogle, injured Eddie Wade, and replacement rider Yannis Irsuti, were the driving forces behind the team’s triumph. Their outstanding performance solidified Stark Future’s prowess in the dynamic arena of indoor motocross.
It’s a pivotal moment for Stark Future. Winning the Arenacross Manufacturers and 1st place titles not only demonstrates the bikes ability but also sets a new standard in the motocross sport.
“The transition to electric has been nothing short of revolutionary, both in adapting to the bike and its effectiveness on track” says Jack Brunell. “With Molicel we’ve unlocked a new level of performance and efficiency that has reshaped the competitive landscape.”
“This victory is not just a win for Stark Future—it’s a win for electric vehicles everywhere,” states Anton Wass, CEO & Founder of Stark Future. “We hope that this demonstrates our commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible and redefining what’s achievable in motorsports when you have the right partners, such as, Molicel. Their cutting-edge technology has been instrumental in our success, and together, we’ve proven that electric vehicles can dominate the track.”
“We like to congratulate Stark Future team’s first win; their bike sets a high bar not only for electric motocross bikes’ performance but more importantly showing the world the endurance capability for peak power and safety offered by Molicel’s ultra-high-power battery technology had progressed to a whole new level. We believe we will witness more of their wins all year round”, said Casey Shiue, President of Molicel.
Switching from a conventional 4-stroke to an electric bike powered by Molicel’s groundbreaking INR-21700-P45B battery cells enhances the overall riding experience. The seamless throttle control, coupled with the absence of gear changes, ensures a race experience that feels familiar and allows for precise power application based on available traction, resulting in smoother performance on the track.
At the core of Stark Future’s electric dominance lies the INR-21700-P45B, boasting unparalleled capacity and power specifications. With a 4.5Ah 21700 form factor, it embodies Molicel’s finest power-to-energy ratio, showcasing a high energy density of 240Wh/kg. Its ultra-fast 3C C-rate facilitates rapid charging at full state of charge, while a maximum internal resistance of 13.8mOhm delivers remarkable speed and power. These attributes prove especially advantageous in motorsports like MotoE, enhancing performance from the initial lap and sustaining it until the very last.
Despite being limited to 60 horsepower in the 450cc category, the VARG showcases unparalleled performance, surpassing its combustion counterparts in the 450cc racing category. These distinct advantages firmly position the electric motorcycle as a formidable contender against traditional internal combustion machinery. This achievement is further amplified by incorporating key technologies from Stark Future, such as full adjustability of the bike’s power and regenerative braking, solidifying its dominance on the track.
As the demand for electric motocross surges, Molicel’s INR-21700-P45B has already made waves in the automotive market, featuring in production cars from leading manufacturers worldwide. The technology’s application in the motocross industry has propelled Stark Future and Molicel to the forefront of innovation.
The VARG, powered by Molicel has already received over 18,500 preorders and continues to grow.
“The World’s Fastest Motocross Bike is now electric. Stark Future indeed belongs to racing in the motocross market.” declared the team, solidifying their commitment to shaping the future of motocross.

Specifically conceived for off-road riding, the Tech-Air® Off-Road when deployed, provides airbag coverage protecting the rider by delivering CE Level 1 – ACTIVE AIRBAG Full Chest and Full Back protection, plus coverage to the shoulders, neck, and collarbones in the event of a crash. The System is integrated with an Alpinestars’ Off-Road Protection Jacket equipped with a CE Level 2 – PASSIVE Full Chest protector and CE Level 1 – PASSIVE Full Back armor, as well as removable armor at the shoulders and elbows. This combination offers riders enhanced roost protection against rocks, debris, and other obstacles they may encounter on the trail.
DUAL DEPLOYMENT AND GAS INFLATOR REPLACEMENT
The Tech-Air® Off-Road System is a dual deployment system and comes installed with two gas inflators, providing riders with two individual airbag deployments before needing to replace the gas inflator canisters. This means a rider can experience a deployment, get up, and keep on going, knowing there’s another deployment ready to protect them if needed. Gas inflator replacement is quick and easy and is made even more convenient thanks to the possibility for customers to change their own canisters (available in some countries that allow personal handling of gas inflators). In addition, if the airbag bladder itself has not been damaged during a deployment, the bladder is certified for up to four individual deployments before requiring service.
TECH-AIR® APP AND SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPDATES
When it comes to other features and benefits, the Tech-Air® Off-Road is Bluetooth-enabled, allowing riders to easily update their System with new releases of the software via the free Tech-Air® App. Additionally, there is a wide variety of functionalities within the App, giving riders the ability to check System status, consult the User Manual, and record their rides on an enhanced Google map, just to name a few. Regarding battery life, a fully charged battery will provide the system with 30 hours of active ride time. A low battery will fully charge in about 4 hours; charging the battery for approximately 1 hour will provide approximately 8 hours of riding time.
*Note: As mandated by the applicable rally FIM regulation, the Tech-Air® OFF-ROAD System has been tested in static conditions to comply with the FIM regulation where neck movements are limited to a maximum of 40° on the rear and 30° maximum on a lateral direction, helping tremendously to reduce and/or mitigate any sort of whiplash and/or neck injury.
The official pre-season test has now concluded, with some eye-popping times as the Pirelli era begins.
The chequered flag has been waved at the 2024 Moto2™ and Moto3™ Jerez Test, and the Pirelli era has arrived with a bang. Heading into Qatar’s season opener at the top of the timesheets it’s Fermin Aldeguer (Sync SpeedUp) in Moto2™ and Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) in Moto3™, with searing unofficial lap records set by both riders. Moto2™
Aron Canet (Fantic Racing) was the rider to beat on the opening two days in Andalucia, but the Spaniard’s 1:40.7 lap time was beaten on the final day as most riders set personal best laps. Aldeguer’s was the quickest of the lot, but it was tight – Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing) was just 0.044s adrift in P2, with Manuel Gonzalez (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™) 0.078s away in third. Aldeguer and Roberts did crash on the final day, but that didn’t do much to halt their progress with the top three all setting their best laps in the closing session.
In total, seven riders lapped under Canet’s 1:40.640 all-time intermediate class lap record around the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto, as the field got to grips with their new machines and Pirelli’s tyres – a huge change for 2024 in Moto2™ and Moto3™.
2023’s runner-up Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) led the way for some of the final day, but it’s P4 at the close of play for the Italian. P5 on the combined timesheets went the way of Canet, with the fastest quintet just 0.134s apart as Moto2™ looks set to be fiercely competitive again. No surprises there!
Elsewhere, Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Deniz Öncü ended the three-day outing as the quickest rookie, the Turk set a 1:41.161 on Friday to sit an impressive 0.8s away from Aldeguer. Moto3™
David Alonso (CFMOTO Aspar Team) – much like Canet – was the pacesetter on Day 1 and Day 2, but fellow sophomore Rueda set a blistering 1:43.272, not far shy of two seconds quicker than Andrea Migno’s lap record, in the penultimate session of the test to climb to P1 overall. That time was 0.043s faster than Alonso’s Day 2 effort as the Spaniard and Colombian set mighty laps.
The rider closest to the leading duo was Ivan Ortola as he and MT Helmets – MSI teammate Ryusei Yamanaka set 1:43.6s on the final day to get within 0.4s of Rueda’s effort. They were joined in the top five by Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) as his Day 2 time means the Dutch star is P5, just over half a second away from the summit.
As for top rookie honours, that went the way of Red Bull GASGAS Tech3’s Jacob Roulstone. The Australian clocked a 1:44.538 on Thursday, with Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse) a whisker shy of his rookie counterpart after the Italian set a 1:44.574 on the final day.
The Third Annual Pit Stop Challenge Will Take Place On Friday, March 8 In Victory Lane At Daytona International Speedway
MotoAmerica, North America’s premier motorcycle road racing series, will host the third annual Pit Stop Challenge on Friday, March 8, in advance of the 82nd running of the Daytona 200 at Daytona International Speedway on March 9.
With weather forcing last year’s event to be moved to the FanZone, this year’s Pit Stop Challenge will relocate back to the original and popular site in the friendly confines of the Speedway’s iconic Victory Lane.
The pit crews from the five fastest qualifiers for Saturday’s Daytona 200 will go at it in the team vs. team Pit Stop Challenge with the winning team walking away with the lion’s share of the $15,000 purse.
While giving the teams the opportunity to do battle, the Pit Stop Challenge also allows spectators to get a close-up look at what goes into a winning pit stop in the Daytona 200 as the teams change both wheels, simulate filling the motorcycle with gas and then push their motorcycles across the timing strip for the fastest time. Make a mistake and the penalty is harsh with teams facing disqualification if an axle nut isn’t tightened.
“The Pit Stop Challenge has proven to be popular with the fans, and the teams also enjoy the competition with their peers,” said MotoAmerica COO Chuck Aksland. “The teams get a nice payout and bragging rights for a year, and the fans get to see up close exactly what goes into a Daytona 200 pit stop.”
The winning team will take home $7500 with second place paying $4500 and third getting $3000. In addition to the cash, the winning team will also get $1000 worth of VP fuel and $1000 worth of Cardo’s new Edge DUO and two Edgephones.
MotoAmerica would like to thank the following sponsors for their support of the third annual Pit Stop Challenge: Dunlop, Pirelli, Motion Pro, Millennium Technologies, Coatzy Moto, San Jose BMW, Liqui Moly, E3 Spark Plugs, Mission Foods, REV’IT!, S&S Cycle, Parts Unlimited, R&G Racing, Honda Red Rider Rewards, Cometic Gaskets, VP Racing and Cardo.

Ever since it was first presented in 2015, Ducati Scrambler has interpreted the most authentic expression of motorcycling, characterised by a free, positive and non-conformist spirit, and open to a meeting of styles and infinite customisations.
A bike that has attracted over 100,000 new enthusiasts all over the world, with a timeless design and technical features that make it a modern motorbike in its own right.
Completely redesigned, the Ducati Scrambler introduces technological elements to its segment that make it safer, such as ABS Cornering and Ducati Traction Control, managed through Riding Mode. And being lighter (-4 kg compared to the previous model) it is even more accessible, easy and fun.
However, the Ducati Scrambler remains a bike created from birth to be customised, and thus adapt to all needs and tastes. In addition to the exclusive possibility of choosing 9 different colours through a customisation kit that totally changes the look of the bike, there is also a wide range of original accessories designed to match the aesthetics to the taste of each rider. Everyone will be able to create the Ducati Scrambler of their dreams without compromising reliability and performance, and still enjoy the official Ducati warranty.Termignoni street-legal silencer (96482231AA)
For those who love the ease of riding the Ducati Scrambler and want to liven up the sound of their twin-cylinder, without affecting its smooth and full-bodied delivery, the Ducati accessories catalogue offers a Termignoni silencer made with a black painted sleeve and carbon fibre end cap. A matching band between the cap and sleeve continues with the standard colour of the bike and completes the sporty look of this silencer approved for road circulation but clearly inspired by Ducati’s racing DNA.
Spoked wheels (96380191AA)
The latest generation Ducati Scrambler was born with aluminium alloy wheels, light in design and combined in black with the main elements of the chassis which enhance the contemporary character of the motorbike. As an alternative, it is possible to equip the motorbike with a pair of spoked wheel rims, suitable for those who appreciate and want to accentuate the more classic and stylish side of the Ducati Scrambler. The dimensions of the rims are identical to the standard ones and the matching tyres remain tubeless. The rim channel is painted black to maintain the chromatic link to the other elements of the chassis, while the spoke finish can be black or polished steel.
Ducati Quick Shift (96581221AA)
The fun of riding and comfort in city use of the Scrambler increases by fitting the Ducati Quick Shift, supplied as standard on the Full Throttle. Derived from Ducati sports bikes, the system allows you to shift up and down the gears without using the clutch and without closing the throttle, increasing the speed of acceleration and deceleration.
Turn-by-turn navigation software (96581211A)
The integrated navigator is based on the Ducati Multimedia System, which uses the motorbike’s TFT instrumentation to display the directions of the route calculated by the Ducati Link App. In this way you can take advantage of the navigation functions without having an external device. It is an official Ducati Performance accessory and can be purchased at Ducati Stores together with the motorcycle or even later, thus allowing it to be used even by those who already own a Scrambler.
Ducati aluminium kit by Rizoma
The Ducati Scrambler was created to express the personality of the person who rides it, and further emphasise its character according to details and personal taste. Thanks to collaboration with Rizoma it is possible to enrich each Scrambler with elements in fine aluminium machined from solid and expertly modelled by CNC machining. Lightness and dimensional precision characterise this line of accessories which includes fuel cap, handlebar counterweights, handlebar levers and footrests.
The tank cap (97780072AB/AA) is characterised by having a resistant anodised finish available in two colours: one variant has both the flange and the cap anodised in black, while the second has the flange in aluminium colour and a black cap. In both cases the refined workmanship is highlighted by details with visible finishing and by Ducati and Rizoma logos on the cap. Of outstanding quality is the special dedicated key, also machined from solid and branded Ducati: an object so refined that it can also be used as a key ring.
The Ducati by Rizoma handlebar levers (96180631BA – 96180741BA) are not only extremely pleasing to the eye, but also equip the Ducati Scrambler with useful and sophisticated features, such as the ability to adjust the distance from the grips and reduce potential damage in the event of a fall, because they are equipped with a safety joint, both in the case of the brake lever and the clutch lever. The use of billet aluminium and exclusive 3D processing allow the weight of these elements to be kept down despite their greater construction complexity and also to improve aerodynamic resistance. An air intake located at the end of both levers, in fact, optimises air flows while the Ducati logo engraved on the front part, in contact with the rider’s fingers, improves grip and the sporty feeling while riding.
The handlebar counterweights (97380861AA/AB) machined from solid aluminium are available in two colours: full black, or in a sportier combination, black with Ducati red details. In both cases a Ducati by Rizoma logo emphasises the exclusive design. Furthermore, as a functional element, the handlebar counterweights reduce both vibrations to the handlebars and the risk of damage to them in the event of a fall.
The oil filler cap (97380871AA/AB) made from billet aluminium adds a sporty touch to the Scrambler twin-cylinder. The precise CNC processing with which it is made makes it precious and gratifying to the eye, while high quality anodising, available in two colour variants black or red, keeps the look unchanged over time.
The pair of footrests (96280501AA) created in collaboration with Rizoma are the perfect aesthetic completion of the refined and advanced look of the Scrambler. They require a dedicated adapter (96280511A) and compared to the standard component they offer greater grip and riding feeling, enriching the total black look with visible machined details in the area of the engine. Also in this case Ducati and Rizoma logos are inevitable.
Lightness and functionality are the main qualities of all Ducati accessories designed for the Scrambler, which has built its legend on agility, ease of riding and a cool image. This is why elements such as the rear-view mirrors (96881011AA – 96881021AA) machined from solid aluminium are not only decidedly beautiful to look at, but also extremely light and rigorously approved for road circulation.
Ducati has characterised the modern and unique line of the Scrambler with unmistakable details. Yet, the desire to take up the challenge and give vent to creativity is evident in the new high license plate holder (97382041AA) . Complete with LED license plate light, this accessory makes the rear view of the Scrambler bolder, giving the bike a sportier look thanks to the highlighted rear tyre and the more streamlined line of the rear.
To accentuate the adventurous side of the Scrambler, Ducati offers a light and robust aluminium under-pan protective plate (97382081AA) as an accessory. Its shape follows that of the lower part of the engine, effectively protecting the filter area and oil circuits from any debris or impacts.
One of the most recognisable elements of the Ducati Scrambler is the headlight with DRL. A precious detail that can make the front view of the motorbike even more unique are the LED turn indicators (96680541A) available in pairs and which can also be used to replace the standard rear elements. The support of these indicators is made of billet aluminium with high quality black anodisation. The high-intensity monoLED guarantees instant reactivity when switched on and excellent visibility in all light conditions, with obvious advantages in terms of active safety while riding.
The new products in the Ducati Scrambler Accessories line are available from the Bologna based company’s dealer network and online on the Shop.Ducati.com website.

Southern 100 Club Chairman & Race Secretary George Peach has been honoured for his dedication to motorcycle sport, especially his involvement with the Southern 100 for over 40 years!
George was invited to attend the prestigious Isle of Man Sports Awards 2024 ceremony at the Villa Marina, where the guest of honour Manx Olympic snowboarder Zoe-Gillings Brier who has represented Great Britain in four Winter Games, under the impression that he had been nominated for an administration award.
Another obstacle was the Southern 100 Club’s Annual General Meeting, which was due to be held on the same evening, thankfully after much persuasion by other Committee Members the AGM was postponed for twenty-four hours!
However, much to the Club Chairman’s surprise, it was a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ he was to receive in recognition of his service to the Southern 100 Road Races.
Castletown born and bred, George joined the Committee of the Southern 100 Motorcycle Club Ltd in 1982, prior to joining the Committee, he was one of the many regular volunteers assisting with the preparation of building the 4.25-mile course prior to racing and signing on as a marshal for the duration of the races, before helping dismantle the course at the end of the event for very many years.
On joining the committee in 1982, twelve months after the club had taken over the running of the ‘friendly races’ from the Southern Motorcycle Club who had organised the race since its inception in 1955, he also took on the role of Deputy Chief Club Marshal (the Chief Marshal at the time was the Chief Constable – an honorary position) and continued in the position until 1989 when he took over as Club and Race Secretary, a post he still held as the racing organisation ended its 2018 season.
However, at the Club’s Annual General Meeting in February 2018, George Peach was elected Chairman to replace Phil Taubman MBE, who was elevated to President of the Southern 100 Racing Club.
In addition to being Club Chairman, George still holds the position of Race Secretary, which he took on in 1989, looking after the administration of all entry details for the three meetings, the club organises annually.
In addition to the prestigious Southern 100 Road Races, the club also organise and run the Pre-TT Classic Road Races since 1988 and the Post TT Road Races since 1991.
The Southern 100 was between 2007 and 2018 a full International Road Race, one of only three sanctioned by the FIM, the governing body of motorcycle sport world-wide, in the British Isles. (The FIM subsequently rescinded ALL International status road races to National Status in 2019.)
The Pre-TT Classic Road Races, as the title suggests opens the Isle of Man TT Festival and is regarded as one of the premier Classic Road Races in the annual calendar, whilst the Post TT Road Races, which brings the curtain down on the TT Festival is graced by many of the top TT stars as well up and coming riders as they gain valuable experience of racing on ‘pure roads’ prior to making their Manx Grand Prix and/or TT debuts.
Since George Peach took on the role of Club & Race Secretary in 1989, the Southern 100 has grown in stature and size (as have the Pre-& Post TT Races) and as with all organisations so has the administration duties, which he has encompassed and adopted as required to ensure the events run to the highest of standards.
George’s ethos epitomises the Southern 100. His principled, objective approach, honesty, and responsibility creates an aura about him. His friendly and charming influence instantly puts people at ease and makes them feel welcome. Any first-time competitor, marshal or helper feels at ease with George. However, George can be firm and even gnarled old timers pumped up with adrenaline cannot fail to smile at his pleasantness, even if they have done something wrong. George is part of the reason competitors love to compete on the Billown Course and is a big contributor to the growing success of the Southern 100.
Apart from the mountains of administration work, George could also be found helping at all the work parties involving the preparation of the 4.25-mile Billown Course ensuring that it is safe for racing and returning the roads in good condition for public use once events have concluded.
However, during the final months of 2019 George Peach was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer and commenced treatment at Nobles Hospital and on the Wirral before having major surgery at a Liverpool Hospital at the end of May 2020.
During this very traumatic time, from October 2019 George continued to take as full a role as he could, with the added restrictions because of the Covid Pandemic, in the running of the club using all the latest technical equipment available for ‘isolated’ meetings and the like.
Whilst there may have been no actual road races during 2020, the administration activities continued, with the aftermath of the cancellation of the three 2020 races, the forward planning of the 2021 races along with continuous communications with Government Departments, Sponsors, the ACU and numerous ‘general enquiries’, all had to be dealt with, which George did in his usual way.
Thankfully, road racing returned in 2022, albeit with major changes in the organisation and promotion of the events, which of course added to his workload.
Twenty, Twenty-three saw both sides of road racing, the highs of the Pre-TT Classic and the tragedy of the Southern 100, which was cancelled after a practice incident resulting in a rider and marshal losing their lives.
George, along with his dedicated committee are now very active in the preparation of the Blackford’s Pre-TT Classic Road Races and the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Southern 100 Road Races for this year whilst planning ahead for the Platinum Anniversary of the Southern 100 in 2055 – 70 Years of the friendly races!
Away from involvement with the Southern 100 Road Races and associated events George also finds time to be on the Committee of the Castletown Bowling Club where he coaches youngsters for the Manx Youth Games. George has also been Men’s Captain and Fixture Secretary in the past.
A well-known person in Castletown George also served his home town and the larger community of the Isle of Man as a Retained Fireman based in the ancient capital for 30 years.
George Peach is the second Chairman of Southern 100 Racing to have been honoured by Isle of Man Sports Awards with a Lifetime Achievement Award, previous Chairman, now President Phil Taubman MBE received a similar award in 2016.
As motorcyclists, we have a common interest and passion in motorcycles, but our riding needs and our motorcycle features are often quite unique.
This includes the arrangements of electronic accessories we add to our motorcycle to make it safer, easier, or more enjoyable to ride. Accessories like spot, fog, or running lights. Additional brake lights, air horns, and connections for our heated clothing, GPS, Phone, and more.
But adding electronic accessories to a modern motorcycle is not straight forward. Firstly, there is the real potential risk of voiding your motorcycle manufacturers’ warranty if you go ahead and start cutting into your bike’s wiring harness. Not something one considers lightly after just receiving your new BMW R 1300 GS. Then there is the challenge of finding space for additional controls for these accessories, on often quite busy factory instrument panels and handlebar switch clusters.
Well, the new HEX ezCAN Mojave solves all these problems for the BMW R 1300 GS, while also providing customisation with how, and when, your accessories work.
The HEX ezCAN Mojave plugs directly into your motorcycle and listens to the BMW R 1300 GS CAN-bus. It provides you with a highly configurable, seamless plug and play solution to add accessories to your bike without the need to cut any wires that could void your warranty.
Designed to enhance the riding experience and provide riders with unprecedented control over their electronic motorcycle accessories, the HEX ezCAN Mojave is a cutting-edge device that integrates with the BMW R 1300 GS, offering a wide range of features and functionalities.
Key Features of the HEX ezCAN Mojave:
Plug and Play Compatibility: The ezCAN Mojave is specifically engineered to support the BMW R 1300 GS, – ensuring a hassle-free installation process with no need for complicated wiring.
Versatile Accessory Control: With the ezCAN Mojave, riders can effortlessly manage and control various electronic accessories such as auxiliary lights, horns, and brake lights directly from their factory handlebar-mounted controls, as well as powering and configuring various other accessories such as heated gear, GPS and dashcams.
Dynamic Configuration Options: The ezCAN Mojave allows users to customise their accessory settings, providing flexibility in adjusting features like brightness, flashing patterns, and activation thresholds according to individual preferences. Such as, auxiliary lights can be set to deactivate when indicating.
No need to cut into your motorcycle’s wiring harness, thereby avoiding the risk of voiding your BMW motorcycle’s warranty, or interfering with other electronic devices.
Set electronic fuses for each of your accessories. These fuses can be reset and changed without the need to purchase physical fuses.
Waterproof and Durable Design: The HEX ezCAN Mojave is built to withstand the elements, featuring a robust, waterproof design that ensures reliability in various riding conditions.
“The HEX ezCAN Mojave is a hotly anticipated addition to the HEX ezCAN range of devices. This now offers a new level of control and customisation for electronic motorcycle accessories for the BMW R 1300 GS. We are thrilled to bring this innovative product to the market, providing BMW R 1300 GS riders with a seamless and enjoyable riding experience,” said Neil LePine, Business Development Director at HEX Innovate Ltd.

Rookie squad Team Étoile has recruited FIM Endurance World Championship podium finisher Kazuki Watanabe for its maiden EWC campaign.
The 33-year-old one-time MotoGP racer from Japan will contest the three European rounds of the Superstock-based FIM Endurance World Cup on Team Étoile’s BMW M1000RR equipped with Dunlop tyres, the exclusive supplier to the Superstock division.
Under the guidance of Team Principal Takashi Ichikawa, Team Étoile, which has put in place a 10-year plan to reach the top in the EWC, has also finalised its rider line-up for the season-opening 24 Heures Motos from 18-21 April.
With Hikari Okubo – who was announced as a Team Étoile rider along with Yudai Kamei last December – unavailable due to his clashing commitments in the FIM Supersport World Championship, Kyosuke Okuda will join Kamei and Watanabe at Le Mans. Rising talent Shogo Kawasaki, who brings experience from the Italian SS600 category, has been nominated as the outfit’s fourth rider for the first event of the year and the season-deciding Bol d’Or.
“It’s an honour to be asked to be a new member of this new team,”said Watanabe, who finished ninth overall in last season’s 24 Heures Motos. “To be honest, it was unclear that I would perform as a pro-racing rider, so I appreciate Team Principal Ichikawa for this chance.
“I feel the passion from the team concept to be the winning team in EWC with 10 years planning. I’m seeking chances to give feedback based on my experience to the team and hoping that the team will find the way to get to the top. For now, though, I will purely enjoy riding in the 24 Heures Motos.”
Team Principal Takashi Ichikawa said:“Since this team has been started from scratch, we had to start from zero with the preparation of the bikes and the shipping of goods to France. In the middle of February, finally the team had done the preparation for the first practice session and five riders gathered together. With uncountable support from everyone and with the effort of the team staff, soon we will visit France with all things we need for the race. At the end of March, it’s scheduled to proceed with the bike setting up with recently joined riders Watanabe, Okuda, Kawasaki and Kamei.”
Okubo said:”The riders, mechanics and staff are all here finally and I’m excited about the situation. We have experienced riders in the team, I’m already seeing the good result with our solid work in the upcoming race. Unfortunately, it’s not possible for me to participate in Le Mans, but I have a lot of experience in Le Mans, so I hope it can contribute to building a better bike for the team.”
Kamei said:”BMW, Dunlop tyres and the Le Mans track are the unknown things in my career. It will be so challenging, but it actually sounds fun. I already have a balanced feeling from the M1000RR on the first ride last December. It’s my first attempt at this 24-hour race though I’ve never failed in the Suzuka 8 Hours before. I believe we can do a good result with a steady ride from our fast riders. To make this possible, I’ll increase my pace in the official test to keep a solid 80 per cent pace in the race.”
Okuda said:“I’m keen on catching up with both Watanabe and Kamei since they are top-ranking riders of the JSB1000 class [in Japan]. It will be my first ride in Le Mans, I’ll try to capture how from my team-mates and my goal is to be as quick as them in the average laps.”
Kawasaki said:“I’m happy to join for the 24 Heures and Bol d’Or as the fourth rider. My mission is to establish the understanding of 1000cc bikes from my team-mates. I hope this chance will be the trigger of my career. I appreciate this offer and will try my best for the team.”
Team Étoile is planning to test on the Circuit Bugatti at Le Mans for the first time on 25 March ahead of the Le Mans Pre-Test from 2-3 April.
The official pre-season test for the intermediate and lightweight classes is now underway.
We’ve had testing for MotoGP™ and the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Championship, now it’s the turn of the Moto2™ and Moto3™ riders and teams to get down to business as three days of Official Test action begin at the classic Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto today.
It’s a new era for all, rookies and veterans alike, as Pirelli becomes the official tyre supplier for both classes, but we’ve seen some familiar names impressing in private testing already… and some track records from last year speak for themselves. So where were we?
Moto2™
With 2023 World Champion Pedro Acosta departing for Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 and MotoGP™, the spotlight will be on his closest contenders from last season to deliver once again. Most notably, Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team), aka last year’s Moto2™ runner-up, will be aiming to build on his three wins in 2023 and by sticking with the same team, Arbolino heads into 2024 as one of the favourites for the crown.
Maybe not quite the heavy favourite for many, however That accolade currently belongs to Fermin Aldeguer (SpeedUp Racing) – for good reason. Ending the season with four straight wins was nothing short of extraordinary, now it’s time for the Spaniard to string a full season together and challenge for his maiden Grand Prix title.
Meanwhile, the rider Aldeguer pipped to the bronze medal last season was Jake Dixon (CFMOTO Aspar Team), and a fresh set of colours brings renewed hope for the British rider as he too targets more wins in 2024, with the title a realistic goal before a wheel is even turned in anger.
You could argue they’re the three favourites heading into 2024, but more names are out to prove a point. Aron Canet is craving a first Moto2™ win as he moves to Fantic Racing, with four-time Moto2™ race winner Celestino Vietti donning the famous Red Bull KTM Ajo colours as he goes out to add another title to Aki Ajo’s rapidly growing collection. We’ll also get to Ai Ogura tackling a Boscoscuro chassis for the first time as his MT Helmets – MSI adventure begins.
Other notable switches include Joe Roberts being back with American Racing and 2023 Rookie of the Year Sergio Garcia joining Ogura on an MT Helmets – MSI backed Boscoscuro. And there’s Filip Salač too, the Czech star moving to Elf Marc VDS Racing Team as he links up with Arbolino.
And that’s before we’ve got to our eye-catching list of rookies. Moto3™ World Champion Jaume Masia (Pertamina Mandalika GAS UP Team), Ayumu Sasaki (Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team), Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team), Xavier Artigas (KLINT Forward Factory Team) and Mario Aji (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) all make the leap from lightweight class to intermediate class in 2024. Plenty of eyes will be fixed on their progress throughout the three days in Jerez!
Moto3™
Six of the top 10 from last year are remaining in Moto3™ for 2024 as we get set for what looks likely to be another phenomenal season of racing in the lightweight class. 2023’s star rookie David Alonso (CFMOTO Aspar Team) heads into the new campaign as the highest-placed returnee from last year, as the Colombian hunts more victories and another title charge.
Doing the same will be Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3). Entering his third season following a strong sophomore campaign, the Spaniard heads into 2024 as one of the pre-season favourites after earning seven podiums in 2023, three of which were celebrated from the top step.
Ivan Ortola (MT Helmets – MSI) is set for a fresh challenge after showing flashes of brilliance in 2023, with Collin Veijer coming into the new year ready to build on his excellent rookie campaign with the Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP squad, a campaign that included that maiden win. All these riders finished inside the top seven in last year’s Championship, with Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports) two more podium finishers inside last year’s top 10 who will be hungry for more success.
A few riders who claimed rostrums in 2023 who need to do it regularly include BOE Motorsports’ new recruit Joel Kelso, Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia) and Tatsuki Suzuki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP). That’s a real mix of experience and youth, and speaking of the latter, seven rookies are ready to enter the fray!
2023 Red Bull MotoGP™ Rookies Cup and JuniorGP™ title winner Angel Piqueras fills the seat Masia departed at Leopard Racing, but he’s been declared unfit for the Jerez Test. Taking his place will be former Moto3™ title-winner with Leopard, Lorenzo Dalla Porta.
Xabi Zurutuza is another rookie who makes a headline-grabbing move to Red Bull KTM Ajo, although the Spaniard will have to wait until a couple of rounds to make his race debut due to age limits. Elsewhere, Tatchakorn Buasri (Honda Team Asia), Nicola Carraro (LEVELUP – MTA), Jacob Roulstone (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3), Noah Dettwiler (CIP Green Power) and Joel Esteban (CFMOTO Aspar Team) make up the list of exciting rookies to enter the Grand Prix scene. David Almansa (Rivacold Snipers Team) is also entering his first full season, but he can’t fight for Rookie of the Year as he’s already gone over the maximum appeances in one season.
Three crucial days of testing are now underway in Jerez! Keep up to date with everything that goes on in Andalucia across our social media channels and on motogp.com, with Live Timing on TimingPass, before a final round-up and photo selection at the conclusion of the test!

The new jacket from LS2 is the ideal ally for comfortable and safe everyday motorcycling, especially in the difficult mid-season.
The year 2023 was once again a testament to the rise of two-wheeled urban mobility in Europe. LS2, aware of the need to protect all these users who ride motorbikes on a daily basis, presents the Bolton jacket. A lightweight and comfortable companion that offers maximum safety, without losing sight of the importance of a careful and metropolitan design. With removable protections on shoulders and elbows, CE Level 1 certified and made of three-layer softshell, the new LS2 jacket is available in a men’s and women’s version.
For years, motorbikes have been the undisputed protagonist of urban mobility. A role that continues to grow exponentially, at the same pace as the need to protect and ensure the safety of all motorcyclists who travel daily on their mounts. While it is true that there is an important awareness when it comes to quality equipment for long routes or trips, it is essential that this awareness extends to the cities. This is where LS2, a manufacturer of helmets and motorbike equipment, comes into play. LS2 is committed to creating an accessible product catalogue that combines first-class materials and the latest technology.
One of the latest additions to their portfolio is the LS2 Bolton waterproof jacket, an urban style jacket designed specifically for the in-between seasons and mild winters. It is made of triple layer softshell and is waterproof and windproof, making it an unbeatable ally even on days when the weather is bad. The rider’s safety is guaranteed thanks to the removable protections on shoulders and elbows, certified according to the EN1621-1:2012 standard, at CE Level 1. In addition, a back protector can be incorporated (the LS2 851 Level 2) and it is prepared for a chest protector.
Its light weight and the incorporation of a thermal lining and hood, both detachable, as well as a waterproof front zip closure, make it an extremely comfortable and functional garment, as shown by the inclusion of a front chest pocket and side pockets, and reflective strips for total visibility of the rider in all conditions. Design also plays an important role. With a sober and urban character, it stands out for its fit that adapts perfectly to the rider’s body and for its casual and metropolitan touch.
The LS2 Bolton waterproof jacket is available in black and in a wide range of sizes from S to 5XL for the men’s version, and from XS to 5XL for the women’s version, for a recommended price of 149 €.
Dainese presents the new MUGELLO 3 D-AIR®, MISANO 3 D-AIR® and MISANO 3 D-AIR® WMN: three state-of-the-art, lightweight, high-performance motorbike suits, equipped with the revolutionary triple-activation D-air® Racing airbag and the pentaxial elastic system, designed to offer the very highest levels of performance and safety on the track, as well as maximizing comfort and ergonomics.
The latest incarnation of the D-air® RACING SHIELD 3X system – featuring the Racing Shield 3x airbag with patented microfilament technology that allows for up to three consecutive activations – ensures maximum safety on the bike. The system takes safety to the next level by allowing the rider to independently replace the gas generator up to 3 times before the airbag needs replacing.
Plus, Riding Mode by Dainese allows to choose the airbag use mode depending on whether you’re on the road or the track. The right mode selection offers the greatest possible safety for the conditions to be faced.
Superior performance is guaranteed by the technologies used in the construction of all three of these suits, rendering them extremely ergonomic; in addition, they are the lightest racing suits with an integrated airbag system. Specifically, the Mugello 3 weighs 20% less than the lightest suit with an integrated airbag system currently on the market. Safety, superior quality and comfort meet unprecedented lightness.
The innovative pentaxial elastic system on the back enables maximum freedom in the saddle in any riding position, due to the suit’s capacity to stretch in five directions, adapting seamlessly to the rider’s movements.
The new Veloce Racing Neck design, race-tested by MotoGP riders, reduces pressure on the neck, increasing freedom of movement and control. The Pro-Armor protectors on the shoulders and the soft inserts on the hips provide comfortable protection in all racing conditions. The new Soft Edges Construction system on the nape and cuffs – made from engineered abrasion-resistant and breathable fabric – enables maximum fit adaptability on all sizes and arm lengths.
The metal plates (titanium for the Mugello 3, aluminum for the Misano 3 and Misano 3 WMN) on the knees, shoulders and elbows – an iconic technology used across Dainese racing clothing – are designed to facilitate sliding in the event of a fall, minimizing the risk of rolling and maximizing energy dissipation.
Innovation in every detail: the latest evolution of the Replaceable Slider System (RSS) 4.0 now enables the knee slider to be changed without altering the position of the base attached to the Velcro on the suit. This makes it possible to maintain an ideal position at all times, simply replacing the new slider. Innovation also comes to the elbows of the suit, which now offer two different slider positions; these can be easily adjusted with one hand with no need for tools, so riders can always choose their preferred position on the basis of the lean angle achieved.
Thermal comfort is guaranteed through the perforated areas on both sides of the suit, with larger vents at strategic points, for the best performance even on the hottest days at the track.
Finally, the in-and-out boot system allows the boot to be worn both inside and outside the suit, as the rider chooses. The waterbag kit and the new removable and washable inner liner complete the highly versatile features of Dainese’s most advanced suits ever.
The MUGELLO 3 PERF. D-AIR® 1PC LEATHER SUIT, crafted entirely from high-quality durable kangaroo leather, will be available for£3,999.95. The MISANO 3 PERF. D-AIR® 1PC LEATHER SUIT, made from D-Skin 2.0 full-grain cowhide which offers excellent ergonomics and performance, will retail at £2,249.95. In the women’s version, the price of the MISANO 3 PERF. D-AIR® 1PC LEATHER SUIT WMN in D-Skin 2.0 full-grain cowhide will be £2,249.95.
Dainese presents its new racing suits with integrated D-air® airbag system and revolutionary RACING SHIELD 3X technology. Extreme performance and lightness for the track. Search interest in the topic ‘electric motorbikes and mopeds’ has skyrocketed by 1000% in the last 5 years according to Google Trends. Now, Jessica Lofts from Lexham Insurance, leading insurance provider specialising in two-wheeled vehicles, shares her top tips for those considering to hop on the trend!
Google Trends data also shows that UK searches for ‘electric motorbike UK’ increased by 250%, and ‘electric moped’ by 200% in the last 5 years.
Between 2022 and 2030, the global electric motorbike industry is projected to grow by an average of 10.2% every year, while the UK government has recently pledged £381 million toward improved charging infrastructure.
“Given that running costs are typically lower for scooters, mopeds and small motorcycles, it’s not surprising that we’re seeing an increase in interest now that people all over the country are looking for ways to reduce their outgoings.” Jessica says.
“As charging infrastructure begins to improve across the UK and the market offers a greater variety of quality electric motorcycles, it’s definitely time to take a fresh look at the electric offering available to consumers. The models currently on the market have really revolutionalised over the last few years and are starting to rival many petrol bikes. Depending on the model, you might even be able to get farther on an electric motorcycle than you can on a full tank in a petrol motorcycle.”
As one of Lexham’s experts behind the BikeMatters blog, Jessica offers invaluable insights for those looking to join the electric revolution:
1. Choosing the Right Type of Motorbike or Moped
The first step in joining the electric movement is selecting the right type of motorbike or moped. With a variety of models on the market, it’s crucial to consider your specific needs, including commuting distance, storage capacity, and budget. Electric models offer the benefits of lower operating costs and reduced environmental impact, but it’s important to assess charging infrastructure in your area to help you determine whether the range of the model is sufficient. “My personal recommendation is the Piaggio 1,” says Jessica, “It is an affordable, well-spec’d, and stylish urban commuter, and costing just £2,550 makes it a pretty budget-friendly option too from a well-known brand!”
2. Legal and Safety Requirements
Remember, electric bikes require a valid MOT for road use, and you can verify your bike’s status on GOV.UK to sidestep any fines. While electric vehicles enjoy an exemption from road tax until 1st April 2025, it is mandatory to register them with the DVLA to ensure compliance with road usage regulations. So, for the newly initiated, what are some beginner essentials to add to the shopping list for electric motorbike and moped riders?
Valid License/ License Plates: Riders of electric motorcycles or mopeds exceeding 28mph must be at least 17 and have passed their CBT. Licencing for electric models mirrors that of petrol-fuelled ones, allowing rides up to a 125cc equivalent with a CBT. Licence plates must be displayed on electric mopeds, scooters, and motorcycles as per usual requirements.
Spare Battery: Many electric motorcycles, especially smaller models, offer removable batteries for increased convenience and range, allowing one to be charged while the other is in use.
Charging Cables: Always carry the charging cable for emergency recharges, and ensure compatibility with available charging points. Storing cables in under-seat compartments can keep them handy.
3. Getting insured with the experts
“The level of insurance you decide to get for your motorcycle or scooter really does depend on your personal preference and situation”, says Jessica. There really is no right or wrong answer as to which insurance to choose, just make sure you provide yourself with enough coverage if the worst were to happen”.
With ‘motorcycle insurance’ as a top breakout topic in Google Trends, finding the right motorcycle insurance coverage is a widely queried subject. This decision should take into account various factors, including motorcycle/moped value, living area, riding experience, and the bike’s intended use. Here is a breakdown of the main motorcycle insurance coverage available:
Motorbike and scooter insurance comes in three main types: Third-Party Only (TPO), which is the minimum legal requirement and covers damage to third parties but not the rider’s own vehicle; Third-Party, Fire and Theft (TPFT), which adds coverage for the vehicle if stolen or damaged by fire; and Comprehensive, which includes all the benefits of TPFT along with protection against accidental and malicious damage. Each type offers varying levels of protection to suit the different needs and preferences of riders.
Breaking down the difference between TPFT and Comprehensive insurance in clear terms, Jessica explains: “A third-party insurance policy will cover you for any damage to a third party (person or property) whereas comprehensive insurance will also cover any damage to your bike as well, regardless of whether the incident was your fault or not.”
The shift towards electric motorbikes and mopeds reflects a change in personal transport values and priorities, with sustainability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness at its core. As this trend continues to evolve, Lexham Insurance remains at the forefront, offering insights and recommendations to navigate this new landscape, making sure riders are well-informed and adequately insured for the road ahead.

Vespa-powered sidecar outfit built in Britain by Watsonian for James and Thom Elliot, founders of Pizza Pilgrims
Following their first pizza pilgrimage in a three-wheel Piaggio Ape van in 2011, restaurateurs Thom and James Elliot decided to embark on a new adventure last year, to celebrate the 10th birthday of their first UK pizzeria.
The brothers visited Watsonian Sidecars and asked them to build an outfit that could carry a passenger, but also convert into a working pizza kitchen when parked.
“Since the company was founded in 1912 we’ve built thousands of tradesmen’s outfits for all sorts of jobs, including ice cream sellers, milkmen and even firemen” says Watsonian Managing Director Ben Matthews. “A tiny pizzeria is definitely a first and something totally unexpected.”
An Italian Vespa GTS300 scooter – already a popular choice with sidecar customers – was selected to provide the power. The development team at Watsonian started by attaching their Platform Chassis, then fitted the Grand Prix sidecar bodyshell, which is similar to the design supplied for filming of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Next, they set to work adapting the sidecar body to fulfil the brief; a tubular steel rack was engineered, to sit behind the scooter and carry a Gozney restaurant-grade portable pizza oven. To transport ingredients, a specially designed box was CNC-machined from HDPE thermoplastic and precision fitted over the sidecar boot.
Solid oak worktops were then fitted on top of the box. These fold out over the passenger cockpit, providing plenty of workspace when cooking.
Finally, bespoke carriers for the pizza peel and cutter were bolted onto the sidecar.
In July 2023, James and Thom set out on a whistlestop 10-day trip to Italy in the Pizza Vespa, visiting icons of the Neapolitan pizza scene, as well as suppliers and friends they’ve made over the last 10 years. You can follow the Pizza Pilgrims progress in a series of videos on their YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJifPKB1j7X4xe8s3gyRutsuZPOkfdwWC
Watsonian Sidecars are located near the Cotswold village of Blockley. See their full range of sidecars at www.watsonian-squire.com.
Alex Lowes secured victory in both the Tissot Superpole Race and Race 2, putting an end to a four-year drought in style.
Despite being a strong contender, Toprak Razgatlioglu faced disappointment in Race 2 as a technical issue forced him to retire, although he had earlier secured his first BMW podium in the Tissot Superpole Race.
Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) emerged victorious in an exhilarating Race 2 at Phillip Island, securing a remarkable double win. Lowes’ triumph was sealed with a breathtaking last-lap maneuver at Turn 9, overtaking Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) in a display of sheer brilliance.
However, the race was not short of drama as Toprak Razgatlioglu’s (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) promising run in the race was abruptly halted on Lap 3 at Turn 9, as a technical issue which led to his untimely retirement. Jonathan Rea (Pata Prometeon Yamaha), unfortunately crashed out at Turn 11 in the early stages, leading to a red flag and subsequent race restart. He was taken to the medical centre and declared unfit with multiple contusions and abrasions.
Despite the challenges, Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Team Motocorsa Racing) showcased an impressive performance, swiftly climbing from P6 to challenge Bautista for the lead after the restart. However, it was Lowes who ultimately prevailed, with Bautista settling for second place.
Meanwhile, Andrea Locatelli (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) staged a remarkable comeback before unfortunately crashing out on the final lap while battling for position. Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) claimed a well-deserved third place, rounding off the podium. Notably, Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) showcased a commendable recovery from a poor start to secure fifth place, with Rinaldi finishing just behind in sixth.
P1 | Alex Lowes | Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK
“It was an unbelievable day! The second race was chaos from the start. It was a little bit delayed, and in the first part of the race Toprak’s bike blew up. I was nearly off track, I did well to stay on. Then, Jonathan had a big crash, so I hope he’s okay. I was dropping back a little bit, but just before the red flag, I had a couple of good sectors to get back on my brother. I had some good speed, and the temperature was down a little bit. My focus in the restart was to make a good start, put myself in the first three or four positions. I knew Toprak wasn’t there, and when he is, you have to ride a little bit more defensively because he’s always going to have a pass. Once I got settled into the race, I was struggling to stay with Bautista a little bit and Michael.
Locatelli passed me at Turn 4. He was going to hit the back of Bautista, so he went wide and then I managed to stay on the line, stay close to Alvaro because, in my head, I was thinking he was struggling to enter the corner because the grip was going. I knew I could be really fast through Turn 8 and into Turn 9. This was my chance to pass him and try to stop the bike into Turn 10 and 11. I had a little plan, and it went quite well. In the end, I had a lot more grip than Alvaro which allowed me to make this pass.”

Yari Montella extended his winning streak with another impressive victory, affirming his status as a leading contender in the Championship standings.
Amidst the intense competition, Adrian Huertas showcased his potential with a remarkable third-place finish, marking his maiden podium in the WorldSSP category.
The WorldSSP Race 2 at Phillip Island unfolded with high intensity as riders navigated challenging track conditions and a shortened race due to an oil spill. Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) displayed impeccable form, securing his second consecutive win at the iconic circuit. Despite facing late pressure from Marcel Schroetter (MV Agusta Reparto Corse), Montella held firm to claim the top spot, as he now leads the Championship standings.
Meanwhile, the battle for the podium raged on as Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) and Federico Caricasulo (Motozoo ME AIR Racing) fought for positions. Unfortunately for Manzi, his podium hopes were dashed as he suffered two crashes during the race, ultimately dropping out of contention. Adrian Huertas (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team) capitalized on the unfolding events, securing his first WorldSSP podium with a commendable third-place finish.
Caricasulo clinched fourth position marking a strong start to his campaign. Valentin Debise (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team) and Bahattin Sofuoglu (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) rounded out the top six.

“Today was a strange race for sure, because of the delay, but we tried to stay focused on the race. My plan was to push at the first lap to create a gap and it worked, so I’m happy for this. During the race, I managed to maintain this gap with Marcel, and it was fun to push every lap. Today we won the race, and I’m happy about it! It really was an incredible weekend! It’s something that nobody expected, and I’m just happy about it! I want to stay focused on the next race, but then at the same time, enjoy this moment. It’s just the first race and I still have 20 races in front of me, so for the moment my focus is on Barcelona.”

The winter slumber came to an abrupt end when the Press Launch for the events that will take place on the 4.25 miles of the Billown Circuit was held by Southern 100 Racing at a packed Morton Hall. Apart from one minor tweak it is the programme that was scheduled for last year.
The evening was opened by organiser Phil Edge; Press Secretary for the two meetings. Then it was interview time. The sponsors who were in attendance spoke enthusiastically about the events and the organizers. First on stage was Clive Callister from Colas; the circuit sponsors and sponsors of the Ballakeighan grandstand. Next to speak was Chris Beaumont from 3Wheeling; his enthusiasm for sidecars in general and the S100 in particular was infectious. The commentary team from Manx Radio was next; tonight’s event host Chris Kinley (paddock); Rob Pritchard (Cross Four Ways) and Tim Glover (start / finish line) will be on duty for both race meetings; all three are avid fans of the events. Sean Ridout outlined how Blue Wave Communications are improving Wi-Fi coverage around the circuit; as a former competitor, he is keen to improve the experience for competitors and fans alike. Callum Staley from CJS Websites is working on a major upgrade to the social media platforms used by the organisers and is also installing a much more comprehensive and user friendly timing system, one that will give the much needed lap by lap speeds.
Foraging vintners; providers of the podium fizz; were represented by Ian Swindells. His company have improved greatly the facilities for fans near to the clubhouse. The company is branching out into rider sponsorship; with Ramsey based Gareth Arnold the first to benefit. Fuel sponsor EVF; represented by Andy Sweetman; is continuing for the 36th year and has every intention of continuing for many more years. There were some notable absentees; headline sponsor for the Southern 100 meeting the IOM Steam Packet Company; headline sponsor for the Pre-TT Classic, Blackford’s; due to Dave Smart being off island. Mylchreests’ Group, the vehicle sponsor; involved since the first event, and the Department for Enterprise were not represented; the latter due to a ministerial change by the Chief Minister.
Last year’s tragedy led to funds being raised to purchase privacy screens for use in the event of an accident that causes injury to a rider on the track. The new screens were demonstrated; they can be deployed in seconds. Debbie Harris led fund raising for the screens; she and her helpers raised £12,088.29. The Hogg Motorsport team have bought more of them for use on the Mountain Course and at other events, including those at Billown. The new S100 marshals’ hut is to be named in memory of Liam Clarke; the marshal who lost his life in last year’s tragic accident.
Then it was the turn of some of the riders to take to the stage. The amazing Chris McGahan informed us that he first began racing in 1955 as passenger to Bob Riding, at a time when the passenger’s name did not normally appear in programmes. Chris has several solo rides lined up for the Pre-TT meeting including one in honour of the late Gary Vines; for Wobbly Bob Racing and one the hales Honda he has ridden many times before. Adrian kershaw; now a fine road race rider outlined his plans for the season; a podium at Billown must be on the cards for this fine rider. Gareth Arnold has garnered support from Cowton Racing; he will have the best guidance possible as he continues his rapid progression through the ranks. Marc Colvin will have the People’s Bike team behind him; he will be looking for podium visits this year. Local stars and MGP winners Nathan Harrison and Joe Yeardsley were in attendance and outlined their plans; more of that in our TT preview. Both are fine young men to go with being supremely talented riders. It was good to see Lee Crawford and Scott Hardie in attendance; they have impressed in their rides at Billown and on their Mountain Course debut. This year they are on an LCR and a podium at Billown could be theirs given a fair wind. The interviews ended with an interesting and amusing contribution from the effervescent Sarah Stokoe. Phil Taubman MBE, then brought the event to a close.
This event merely confirmed what we already know; this is a very special pair of events; loved by the riders and spectators. The committee are the glue for everything; they work tirelessly; yet manage to have time for everyone; making all feel welcome – TT organisers please take note.
Nicolo Bulega achieved a remarkable feat by winning Race 1 at Phillip Island on his WorldSBK debut, becoming the first rider to accomplish this since Alvaro Bautista in 2019.
After four years away from racing, Andrea Iannone made a stunning return, leading the race and ultimately securing a podium finish. Despite initially finishing in fourth place, Toprak Razgatlioglu received a penalty for a Pit Intervention Time infringement, which dropped him to fifth.
WorldSBK Race 1 at Phillip Island provided thrilling action and historic moments with intense battles among the leading riders and strategic maneuvers during the pit stop phase between Laps 9 and 11.
Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) stole the show by claiming victory on his WorldSBK debut, achieving a remarkable feat as the first WorldSSP Reigning Champion to win on his first SBK race, marking an unprecedented accomplishment in the championship’s history.
Andrea Locatelli (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) displayed impressive pace and strategy to claim second place. Making a sensational return to racing, Andrea Iannone (Team GoEleven) secured third place after leading in the early stages of the race. Locatelli and Iannone completed an all-Italian podium sweep, echoing a milestone last achieved in 1993.
Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) demonstrated strong competitiveness, finishing in fourth position, followed closely by Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK), who initially crossed the line in fourth but was demoted to fifth.
Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) struggled to find his rhythm, ultimately finishing in 15th position after a crash, while Jonathan Rea’s (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) difficulties persisted as he crossed the line outside the points in 17th place. Australian Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK), encountered misfortune during the race, as a collision with another rider led to an early retirement.

“Maybe it’s the best day of my life! It’s difficult to already believe it but it is something incredible; I was dreaming about this for many months but now it’s reality. I took pole position; I won my first race and got the lap record. It’s something special that I’ll never forget.
I started to cry a little bit and then, there were good emotions as I saw all my guys on the finish line and all my guys with a big, incredible smile. It was so nice for me. It’s incredible because this team is like my second family, and they always believed in me. When I came here from Moto2™, I was in a bad moment, but they kept believing. This is my third year with them, and we started in a very good way. I’ll try to continue giving them a lot of smiles. I’m ready for my first Tissot Superpole Race and I’ll try to do my best.”

Yari Montella clinched victory after a gripping battle, marking his return to the top step of the podium.
Polesitter Adrian Huertas faced disappointment as he encountered issues before the race began, preventing him from competing.
Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) secured victory after overcoming a poor start and establishing a commanding lead in Race 1 at Phillip Island. Montella’s flawless performance ended a drought of over 400 days for his WorldSSP victories. He led the field with precision, leaving Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) and Marcel Schroetter (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) trailing behind as he crossed the finish line triumphantly. A fierce battle unfolded between Schroetter and Manzi for second place, with Manzi eventually gaining the upper hand to secure the runner-up position.
Federico Caricasulo (Motozoo ME AIR Racing) and Oli Bayliss (D34G Racing WorldSSP Team) engaged in an intense battle for fourth place, with Caricasulo ultimately securing the position in his debut with the team. Bahattin Sofuoglu (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) finished sixth after starting from the back of the grid due to a tire pressure infringement, rounding up the top performers of the race.

“It was a funny race. At first, I didn’t feel comfortable on the bike, and I couldn’t understand why. I just tried to stay close behind Manzi and not let him build a big gap. On the last lap before the Pit Stop, I tried to overtake him, and we both went first to do the Pit Stop. It turned out to be a perfect flag-to-flag because we managed to open a big gap from Manzi, around 5 seconds. We practiced a lot yesterday, and everything came together perfectly in the end! We’ll try to repeat today’s victory tomorrow, but it won’t be easy. Today Huertas wasn’t here, but I think he’ll be fighting for the podium tomorrow.”

MotoE™: Garzo fastest, Casadei wins race simulation as testing concludes.
Three days of testing for the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Championship see some familiar names take to the top.
There’s one month to go until the 2024 FIM Enel MotoE™ World Championship begins at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in March, and the very same venue hosted the three-day pre-season test for the electric Championship. The gaps look as close as ever and some familiar names took to the top in testing, teasing another close season of competition on this parallel path of sustainable innovation.
2023 race winner Hector Garzo (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE™) tops the overall timesheets with a 1:46.916 from Day 2, ahead of Nicolas Spinelli (Tech3 E-Racing) and 2019 Cup winner Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE™), both also setting their best efforts on Thursday. Reigning World Champion Mattia Casadei, now with LCR E-Team, took some bragging rights as he won the seven-lap race simulation on Day 3 though, finishing ahead of now-teammate Eric Granado and Ongetta SIC58 Squadra Corse’s Kevin Manfredi. There, Garzo and Spinelli both slid out, the latter after leading for much of the race as some hurdles befell a number of competitors.
But back to the start. Day 1 saw the field focused on getting up to speed with the machinery and track – or both, for a number of returning or rookie competitors – as Portimão gets ready to debut on the electric calendar this season. Wednesday was the only fully dry outing too, leaving some looking to make more of an impression once the final test sessions take place on the Thursday just ahead of the season-opening Portuguese GP. Day 2 was the timesheet topper despite some damp tracktime, and Day 3 saw the race sim begin in the wet before the sun came out.
So, completing the overall top four behind Garzo, Spinelli, and Ferrari’s best laps from Day 2 comes a 1:47.231 set by Casadei on Day 3, ahead of an impressive full-time debut for Oscar Gutierrez (Axxis-MSI) in P5 overall, just thousandths behind the reigning Champion.
Alessandro Zaccone (Tech3 E-Racing) is next up, pipping Granado, with Kevin Zannoni (Openbank Aspar Team), the returning Lukas Tulovic (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE™) and Miquel Pons (Axxis-MSI) completing the top ten. Two-time Cup winner Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar Team) is missing from that list, but he was only hundredths off Pons as the top ten is covered by only just over half a second.
He’ll be one of those looking for more next time out in that last Thursday test before the first race weekend begins, but the times are already tight and there are 16 races ahead worth 25 points each. So join us for the season opener at the Grande Prémio Tissot de Portugal as another incredible season of competition begins!
