Garcia denies Aldeguer and Vietti in Barcelona

Garcia Denies Aldeguer And Vietti In BarcelonaMoto2™ World Championship leader Sergio Garcia (MT Helmets – MSI) will start the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya GP from pole position after setting a brilliant 1:41.894 in the opening stages of qualifying.

The #3 was 0.240s clear of Fermin Aldeguer (MB Conveyors SpeedUp), who pushed hard on his final run but was unable to match the pace of Garcia. Rounding off the front row after battling through Q1 will be Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo) – just a further 0.048s slower than Aldeguer.

Aron Canet (Fantic Racing) heads the second row of the grid in fourth position. Like Vietti, the #44 used came through Q1. QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™ duo Albert Arenas and Manuel Gonzalez qualified fifth and sixth, but Gonzalez then got a three-place grid penalty for impeding Alonso Lopez (MB Conveyors SpeedUp), so he’ll start in P9 behind Alonso, replacement rider Daniel Muñoz (Pertamina Mandalika GAS UP) and Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing).

Can Garcia convert it once again? Find out at 12:15 (UTC +2) on Sunday!Garcia Denies Aldeguer And Vietti In Barcelona

Ortola heads Veijer and Rueda as Alonso starts P6 and Holgado P9

Ortola Heads Veijer And Rueda As Alonso Starts P6 And Holgado P9Pole position at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya goes the way of Ivan Ortola (MT Helmets – MSI) after a brilliant final flying lap and a stunning final sector.

Ortola took his first pole by a mere 0.019s from Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP), who looked confident throughout the whole session, setting a good time early on and then leaving it late to exit pitlane on his final run. Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) will start from third, setting a strong time late in the session.

It was a dramatic end to the session with CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team’s David Alonso initially in second, pitting for new tyres and exiting the pitlane with seconds to spare. It was all change down to the final lap though, with red sectors everywhere and Rueda setting a strong time before Ortola took it after improving on his last flying lap.

Yellow flags were also out after a crash from Riccardo Rossi (CIP Green Power) and Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) – cancelling Alonso’s time and leaving him on the second row, behind Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia) and Ryusei Yamanaka (MT Helmets – MSI squad).

David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports) will start from seventh as he made it through Q1 and improved on his last flying lap. Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing) will join Muñoz on the third row in P8, with Holgado forced to start from ninth on the grid after his crash. Can the likes of Ortola and Veijer reel in the Championship gap? We’ll find out at 11:00 (UTC +2)!Ortola Heads Veijer And Rueda As Alonso Starts P6 And Holgado P9

Espargaro takes fairytale pole to head Bagnaia and Raul Fernandez

Espargaro Takes Fairytale Pole To Head Bagnaia And Raul Fernandez

Espargaro takes fairytale pole to head Bagnaia and Raul Fernandez as Marc Marquez misses the cut.

A second pole of the season for Aprilia, a maiden front row for Trackhouse, no ticket to Q2 for #MM93 and a tumble for Martin: the storylines overflow in qualifying.

The fairytale continues for Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing)! After announcing he’ll bow out at the end of the season, he went fastest on Friday and followed it up with pole position at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya. Reigning Champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) is second on the grid by just 0.031s, with a P3 for Raul Fernandez confirmed just after the session after his best lap was reinstated to give both the #25 and Trackhouse Racing their maiden front row.

Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) had celebrated that third in parc ferme before a review showed Raul Fernandez had gone through green panels, not yellow flags, on his best lap, but the KTM rider nevertheless starts fourth and a full 18 places ahead of Le Mans as he bounced back from that in style.

Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™), meanwhile, will face a similar mountain to climb as he did in France, starting P14 after failing to make it through Q1.Espargaro Takes Fairytale Pole To Head Bagnaia And Raul Fernandez

Q1: LAST MINUTE LAP RECORD
It was another packed Q1 and another appearance for eight-time World Champion Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™), and it wasn’t smooth sailing this time round either. In France it was Miguel Oliveira who knocked him out of contention and this time round, Oliveira’s Trackhouse Racing teammate Raul Fernandez was one of those who did the same.

The #25 was fastest in the session as both Marc Marquez and teammate Alex Marquez looked for a way through, but a last dash for glory from Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) saw the Italian not only depose Raul Fernandez from the top of Q1 but break the lap record, to much delight in the team’s box.

Diggia and Raul Fernandez moved through, leaving Alex Marquez P13 on the grid and Marc Marquez P14 – just ahead of a tougher session for Oliveira in P15 and Marco Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) in 16th.Espargaro Takes Fairytale Pole To Head Bagnaia And Raul Fernandez

Q2: DRAMA, LAP RECORD, DRAMA
Once a packed Q2 got underway it was Bagnaia who flew to the top of the timesheets after the first run, setting a 1:38.221 – a strong target for the rest.

In the closing minutes of the session, riders pushed to the limit as ever, and a key mover was Binder as the South African found time to jump to second. But it all went wrong for Prima Pramac Racing late on, with both Martin and teammate Franco Morbidelli crashing at Turn 2 seconds apart. What looked at first like it could be friendly fire was instead two separate incidents at least, and riders both ok.

What was drama for them also proved some drama on the timing screens as the incident brought out the yellow flags, cancelling lap times. One of those was initially Raul Fernandez’ best effort, but after investigation the #25 passes what is a green panel just before it switches to yellow. So that lap was reinstated, putting him P3.

Amongst all that early and late drama, Espargaro was faultless to thread the needle, able to storm up to pole position on his final flying lap.Espargaro Takes Fairytale Pole To Head Bagnaia And Raul Fernandez

THE GRID
Behind Espargaro, Bagnaia, Raul Fernandez and Binder comes rookie Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) in fifth, with Diggia in P6. The Italian’s best in Q2 didn’t quite reach the heights of his Q1 effort, which would have put him second on the grid.

P7 goes to Championship leader Martin after that bout of drama, and he has Alex Rins (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) alongside him as the #42 put in an impressive Q2. Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) is next up, ahead of Morbidelli and Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team). Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) lines up P12 looking for a lot more this weekend to match the #41, with Top Gun not yet finding that form from Texas on home turf.

After another incredible qualifying, some shake ups on the grids set us up for fireworks as key contenders line up up and down the order. Make sure to tune in for Tissot Sprint at 15:00 today, before the Grand Prix at 14:00 tomorrow. See you there!

Locals to the fore in early practice at Pre-TT Classic meeting.

Locals To The Fore In Early Practice At Pre-tt Classic Meeting.
Joe Yeardsley

A cold and overcast Billown Circuit welcomed the Pre-TT Classic competitors as the curtain was raised on the 2024 TT Festival. There have been many changes around the circuit with regard to spectator safety with much more safety fencing and more restricted and prohibited areas. In these days of litigate for everything, it is case of do this or have no racing.

Numbers were down in some classes; notably the Sidecar and Singles classes. Once the newcomers had completed their escorted laps the Singles opened proceedings. Will Loder on the trusty Greeves lad the way at 93.772mph. The 250cc class was led by Andy Hunt on his Ducati; we expect a similar outcome on race day.

Next was the turn of the 1100cc class – mainly Senior machines having an extra run out. Late; and very welcome; entrant Adam McLean led the way ay 92.638mph on his Enfield. Andy Hornby was second on his 750 Triumph; with Alan Oversby 3rd on his 500 Honda. Local rider Matt Mylchreest led the way in the Junior Superbikes; he put his 600 Honda around at 96.24mph. Rhys Hardisty; 250 Yamaha; and Alan Oversby 400 Kawasaki were not far behind.  The Senior class was headed by Adam McLean at 93.667mph; local star Joe Yeardsley was next on an identical Enfield, he set a speed of 91.710mph; excellent for his first ride on the bike. Third fastest was the evergreen Alan Oversby on his Honda.

The 250cc and 125 Post Classics were led by Dan Sayle on his 125 Honda. Owen Monaghan was next with Richard Ford third. The Junior promises to be a very close race; as is usually the case. Alan Oversby led the way at 88.099mph on his Honda; Will Loder was second on the Greeves with Barry Davidson 3rd on his Honda.

The Post Classic Superbikes were led by local star men Joe Yeardsley (102.502mph) and Marcus Simpson (100.134mph); both Kawasaki mounted. Fastest Irish rider around the Mountain Course; Mike Browne took third at 100.094mph on his Yamaha. Last out on track were the sidecars. Jack Gristwood /Alice Smith were the only pairing to top 80mph. Tony Thirkell / William Moralee were second with former S100 Champion Greg Lambert third; he has Andy Haynes in the chair.

Saturday is set for fine weather; with a full practice session in the afternoon and four races in the evening. Being set in my ways I preferred the Classic races to be on the bank holiday Monday; the power in the tower (TT  Control Tower that is) does not agree; but that is what makes a market.

BMW Motorrad presents the BMW R20 concept

Bmw Motorrad Presents The Bmw R20 ConceptIn front of the picturesque background of Villa d’Este at Lake Como, BMW Motorrad unveils its latest design masterpiece: the BMW R20 concept.

This motorcycle celebrates the highest craftsmanship and presents itself as the epitome of expressive and cool design, refined down to the last detail.

As part of the renowned Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, famous for its elegance and historical significance for extraordinary vehicles, BMW Motorrad showcases the legendary air-oil cooled Big Boxer engine as a central sculptural element.

Markus Flasch, Head of BMW Motorrad, describes the concept as follows:
“The BMW R20 concept is a mechanical masterpiece, with the Big Boxer in its center. Distinctly BMW Motorrad.”

Bmw Motorrad Presents The Bmw R20 ConceptAuthentic, high class, cool

The BMW R20 concept is a motorcycle that impresses with a powerful appearance in a casual gentleman style, while fulfilling typical attributes of BMW Motorrad: classic design and excellent engineering combined with thrilling mechanics.

Centered around the Big Boxer engine as the epicenter of great riding pleasure, the expressive tank presents itself like a sculpture, the rear is reduced to the essentials to emphasize the clean lines and the power of the motorcycle.

Bmw Motorrad Presents The Bmw R20 ConceptThe chassis has been completely redeveloped and, with a black double-loop main frame made of chrome-molybdenum steel tubes, forms the backbone. With the black disc wheel at 17×6.25 inches at the rear, on which a tire of the dimension 200/55 is mounted, and a 17″ spoke wheel with black spokes and the tire dimension 120/70 at the front, the
BMW R20 concept combines tradition and modernity. The proven BMW Paralever has been executed in a new two-arm variant, in which the swingarm is made of chrome-molybdenum steel and the Paralever strut is made of aluminum. The kinematics are designed so that the drive torque is completely balanced. The two milled aluminum rear axle carriers are another high-quality detail. The exposed driveshaft, conceptually adopted from the R18 – the visual highlight of the well-known R 18 models – has been shortened for integration into the roadster architecture. As suspension elements, fully adjustable Öhlins Blackline components work at the front and rear. The basic vehicle geometry has a steering head angle of 62.5°, as well as a wheelbase of 1,550 mm. Radially mounted brake calipers from ISR at the front and rear take care of the deceleration – with six pistons at the front and four pistons per brake caliper at the rear.
Additionally, the 2-in-2 exhaust system delivers the appropriate sound character and perfectly completes the design.

As a Big Boxer Roadster, the BMW R20 concept sets new standards in the world of motorcycles and confirms BMW Motorrad’s commitment to the finest engineering and the pure passion for motorcycling.Bmw Motorrad Presents The Bmw R20 Concept

Living Big Boxer Culture

The centerpiece of the BMW R20 concept continues to be the air-oil-cooled Big Boxer engine, now with a displacement of 2,000 cc. For the concept bike, new cylinder head covers, a new belt cover and a new oil cooler were developed, in order to be able to mount the oil pipes partially hidden.

A special highlight is the side view: The eye follows the path of the air as it flows through the open intake funnels into the throttle bodies and cylinders, before escaping through the open exhaust system and the tailpipes in megaphone design, creating the typical
Big Boxer sound.Bmw Motorrad Presents The Bmw R20 Concept

Bold in Style

The aluminum tank got a new design and presents itself in the progressive color
“hotter than pink” from the 1970´s. The BMW R20 concept is color-coordinated with the cylinder head covers, belt cover and air intake funnels made of polished and anodized aluminum, as well as the Paralever strut, footrest system and the ISR brake calipers in gunmetal.

The taillight has been perfectly integrated into the single seat, which is upholstered with quilted black Alcantara and fine-grain leather, and emphasizes the dynamic roadster appearance with its compact rear. The modern LED headlight is presented in form of a 3D-printed aluminum ring with integrated daytime running light. The main headlight appears to float optically in the middle of this daytime running light ring.

Each of these details contributes to the unique character of the concept bike and underscores its overall statement:
The BMW R20 concept takes the Big Boxer Culture to a new level.

“The R20 concept is a bold interpretation of the BMW Motorrad DNA,” says Alexander Buckan, Head of Design BMW Motorrad.

“It combines modern technical elements with a classic roadster design. Its oversized proportions and minimalistic aesthetic make it an unmistakable character.”

Espargaro smashes lap record ahead of Binder and Acosta as Marc Marquez faces Q1

Espargaro Smashes Lap Record Ahead Of Binder And Acosta As Marc Marquez Faces Q1It’s an Aprilia-KTM-GASGAS party on Friday at the top, setting the scene for an interesting Saturday in Barcelona.

Practice at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya definitely didn’t disappoint, setting us up for an interesting super Saturday. First, 2023 Barcelona winner Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) was back on top and with a new lap record. Second, it’s two RC16s on the chase as Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and rookie Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) ended the session second and third, respectively. Third, Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) will once again have to head through Q1… although it didn’t stop him in France.

It was a Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 1-2 for the majority of the session, but it wouldn’t stay like that by the end of play. Espargaro’s new lap record but paid to that, although Binder got close with one last bid for it. On his last flying lap, the South African got within 0.072 of the top to complete a recovery in style, having crashed once early on at Turn 2 and then again at the very same Turn 2 later in the session.

Down in fourth it’s reigning Champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) as he looks for his first GP podium in Barcelona, and on Friday he was the fastest of the Championship top three. The Italian set 23 laps across the session but had some drama after the flag came out, forced to push his bike back to the pitlane. Still, the #1 was able to end the day ahead of the second Red Bull KTM Factory Racing machine of Jack Miller, who nevertheless completes the top five.

Espargaro Smashes Lap Record Ahead Of Binder And Acosta As Marc Marquez Faces Q1Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) and managed to get the better of teammate Franco Morbidelli, who had a solid day and made it both Prima Pramac Racing machines inside the top 10, split by just 0.038. Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) ends Friday in eighth after spending most of the session outside the top 15 positions but finding time in the closing minutes.

Alex Rins (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) heads through to Q2 from P9 on Friday, his second visit this season so far and on the way to his 200th Grand Prix start. Teammate Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™), meanwhile, crashed at Turn 5 early on – rider ok but ending the session in 14th. Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) rounded out the top 10.

Espargaro Smashes Lap Record Ahead Of Binder And Acosta As Marc Marquez Faces Q1There was plenty of drama, with a number of crashes at the end of the session playing some havoc with yellow flags too. Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) crashed earlier at Turn 5, but things soon got worse for the Italian then crashed for a second time at Turn 9 in the last 10 minutes of the session. Di Giannantonio ended the hour-long session in 17th ahead of Red Bull GASGAS Tech3’s Augusto Fernandez who also had a crash late in the session at turn four.

Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) also couldn’t improve after suffering a crash in the final five minutes, and with all that drama there was no space for many others to move forward either amongst the yellow flags. That included for his teammate Marc Marquez. The number #93 faces Q1 for the second time in two weeks, although in France it didn’t make too much difference… and he didn’t even make it through! Will he this time? Tune in on super Saturday to find out!

Alonso heads Rueda and Holgado as the top five in the standings stake their claim on Catalunya

Alonso Heads Rueda And Holgado As The Top Five In The Standings Stake Their Claim On CatalunyaCFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team’s David Alonso ends Friday at the top of the standings at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, fastest in the morning and afternoon.

The #80 put in an impressive 12 lap run at the start of P1 and then stamped some authority back on the session on his final exit. He ends the day 0.158s clear of Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo), with Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) finding a heap of time on Friday afternoon to end P1 in third.

It was a thrilling end to Friday with riders treating it like qualifying, as Holgado, Rueda, and then Alonso all switched the top spot between them with the pace beginning to heat up. However, Nicola Carraro (LEVELUP – MTA) crashed on his final lap, bringing out the yellow flag and taking away any chance for the #10 to improve. Another rider who had a bad end to Friday was Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing), who ended Friday at the bottom of the standings after suffering from a technical issue – unable to set a time.

Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) continued to impress, showing consistent pace to end the day a mere 0.255s adrift from the top spot. Ivan Ortola (MT Helmets – MSI) rounded out the top five, with the #48 putting in fast laps in the early stages of the session. Moto3™ head back out in the morning for P2 before qualifying at 12:50 (UTC +2).

Granado takes stunning 10th pole to edge out Casadei and Zaccone by just 0.032s

Granado Takes Stunning 10th Pole To Edge Out Casadei And Zaccone By Just 0.032sA dramatic qualifying sees Granado storm to pole ahead of reigning champ Casadei and Zaccone with Ferrari down the order after early crash.

The FIM Enel MotoE™ World Championship is back on track for Round 3 at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya with two more blockbuster instalments awaiting us tomorrow. Launching from his tenth pole position in the electric class will be Eric Granado (LCR E-Team) after taking the spoils by setting a sensational 1:48.215. But it certainly wasn’t a comfortable pole position, as both Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) and Alessandro Zaccone (Tech3 E-Racing) set the exact same lap time just 0.032s behind Granado to line up second and third respectively.

For the first time in 2024, Nicholas Spinelli (Tech3 E-Racing) is not on the front row of the grid. The three-time winner this year – and sure championship contender – starts from fourth where he’ll have to watch out on his approach into Turn 1 so that rookie sensation Oscar Gutierrez (Axxis-MSI) and French GP polesitter Hector Garzo (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE™) don’t come flying down Spinelli’s inside from fifth and sixth. While Garzo won’t be overly pleased with sixth, there is at least a little more satisfaction in the #4’s side of the Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE™ garage than there is on Lukas Tulovic’s side, as unfortunately after Tulovic progressed through from Q1, he was unable to set a flying lap in Q2 due to technical issues.

On the third row is where we find yet more heavy MotoE™ hitters. Two-time World Cup Winner Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar Team) lines up seventh for the second time this season just ahead of teammate Kevin Zannoni (Openbank Aspar Team) who fortunately this time was indeed able to take part in Q2 after progressing through Q1. Alongside them is the luckless Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini Team) who, after finding something of his old form in Practice, crashed late on in Q2 denying him the chance of being able to improve his grid slot. Regardless, ninth is his first top 10 start so far this season.

Make sure you don’t miss both races tomorrow with lights out at 12:15 local time (UTC +2) for Race 1 before Race 2 gets underway at 16:10 local time. We’ll see you then for yet more fantastic MotoE™ racing.Granado Takes Stunning 10th Pole To Edge Out Casadei And Zaccone By Just 0.032s

Ducati Scrambler amazes with two concepts at the Bike Shed MotoShow in London

Ducati Scrambler Amazes With Two Concepts At The Bike Shed Motoshow In LondonDucati Scrambler presents itself at the 2024 London Bike Shed MotoShow with two bold and innovative concepts.

Two proposals from the Centro Stile Ducati, created on the technical base of the second-generation Ducati Scrambler, which demonstrate how fundamental the world of customization, characterized by creativity and free expression, is for the post-heritage Ducati world.Ducati Scrambler Amazes With Two Concepts At The Bike Shed Motoshow In London

CR24I
The CR24I concept is a motorcycle in the purest Café Racer style, a natural evolution of the 2017 Scrambler of the same name. Its line is inspired by the bikes that made the legend of British venues in the 60s, where enthusiasts challenged each other to complete a lap of the block in the time of a record played on the jukebox.

The project, which was created entirely within the Centro Stile Ducati, underlines the versatility of the Ducati Scrambler mechanical base, which in this interpretation is characterized by the 17″ front rim with road tyres and by the sporting clip-on handlebars with bar-end mirrors. The tank-mounted fairing, narrow and wrap-around, recalls icons of Ducati history such as the Pantah and the 750 SS, reinterpreted to obtain that contemporary and post-heritage look that has always been an asset of the Ducati Scrambler brand.

The saddle turns into a single seater thanks to the detachable cover of the section reserved for the passenger which recalls the classic ‘panettone’ saddles of 70s sports bikes. The colouring completes a concept that strikes a chord with enthusiasts most linked to the iconography of the British rockers of the 1960s.Ducati Scrambler Amazes With Two Concepts At The Bike Shed Motoshow In London

RR24I
The RR24I refers to the aesthetic canons of post-apocalyptic sagas of cinema and TV series. Minimalist and functional in every detail, this Ducati Scrambler contrasts with the clean and harmonious lines of the CR24I concept. The RR24I immediately brings the enthusiast back to the original size of the motorcycle: two wheels, a tank, an engine and handlebars. Nothing superfluous compared to the purest emotions of riding, to fully experience that sense of freedom that has always been fundamental in the Ducati Scrambler concept.

All the aluminium parts are highlighted, the technical and functional details are left exposed to give authenticity to a concept that focuses entirely on materials that are distinctive to the eye and touch. The tank is stripped of its covers, replaced by a frame to attach a tank bag for the essentials, be it a change of clothes or tools to stop at nothing. The part of the seat reserved for the passenger is removable to create a luggage rack, another detail that underlines the adventurous and essential spirit of the concept.

At the rear, the case on the left side recalls the upcycling operations of empty jerry cans, and the high-passage Termignoni exhaust accentuates the tracker look of this concept, completed by Pirelli Scorpion Rally tyres on 18″ and 17″ rims respectively at the front and the rear which, combined with the high and short front mudguard, promise to be able to tackle any terrain.

Ducati Scrambler Amazes With Two Concepts At The Bike Shed Motoshow In LondonLondon Bike Shed MotoShow
Both concepts will be on display to the public throughout the opening of the London Bike Shed MotoShow, which takes place from 24 to 26 May. Established in 2013 as a celebration of special culture, within a decade the Bike Shed MotoShow has become one of the most important events on the international scene.

The 2023 edition was one of the most successful events dedicated to custom, with over 17,000 visitors and more than 300 unique examples from all over the world.

Ducati Scrambler is more accessible than ever
The Ducati Scrambler models within the Ducati range are the perfect choice for those who want to express their personality through a motorcycle with a unique and recognizable design, dynamic and fun, accessible and safe for everyday use. A motorcycle designed for those seeking freedom and wanting to share their style and way of being with others. The “Ducati Scrambler Accelerate” financial formula is active in the UK on the Ducati Scrambler Icon, Nightshift and Full Throttle, which allows you to purchase the motorbike by making a down payment of approximately 50% of the total and deciding after two years whether to keep the motorbike or choose a new Ducati. You can book a test ride through the official website.

Ducati Scrambler Amazes With Two Concepts At The Bike Shed Motoshow In LondonThe Desmodue engine, modernized in its contents, is equipped with a new clutch that is smoother in operation and more compact, offering more space for the rider’s foot. The new Ducati Scrambler has also been updated in its technical contents, allowing for a total weight reduction of 4 kg, for a bike that is more manageable and easier to ride.

The new Ducati Scrambler is even more fun and safer thanks to the introduction of Ride by Wire throttle management. This solution makes the engine response prompt and progressive at every speed and throttle opening angle, and allows for the adoption of Ducati Traction Control, which changes the personality of the bike through two Riding Modes. The standard equipment is completed by ABS cornering, essential for making riding even safer.

To always stay connected with the “Land of Joy” Ducati Scrambler it is possible to browse the dedicated website, which has recently been updated both graphically and in terms of functionality with the aim of making the family take a “step forward” also from the point of view of the digital ecosystem.

Golden opportunity: Norton Motorcycles launches One of One colour customisation programme

Golden Opportunity: Norton Motorcycles Launches One Of One Colour Customisation ProgrammeNorton Motorcycles is set to launch its colour customisation programme, One of One, at this year’s Bike Shed Moto Show on Friday, 24th May.

One of One enables Norton customers to personalise their motorcycle at point of purchase using any paint colour they desire, as well as choose bespoke stitching and colours for accompanying accessories.

As part of the programme, customisation is available for all three Norton Motorcycles models: Commando 961, V4CR and V4SV.

For the Commando 961, the tank, tail and airbox can be customised, whereas the entire fairing can be painted on the V4 models. But when it comes down to the colour, it is completely up to the customer’s imagination and desire how they wish to design their One of One motorcycle livery.

Golden Opportunity: Norton Motorcycles Launches One Of One Colour Customisation ProgrammeOnce a customer has registered interest, a consultation is arranged at the client’s convenience. Initial ideas are shared to help Norton understand what the customer is looking for and this consultation also helps the customer understand the scope of how much is possible.

Following this initial consultation, a brief is generated that is agreed by both Norton Motorcycles and the client. Digital renders are generated for approval by the client and a deposit is taken to secure the build and commence works.

Golden Opportunity: Norton Motorcycles Launches One Of One Colour Customisation ProgrammeAs well as the highly trained staff that handmake Norton motorcycles at Norton’s HQ in Solihull, the company also makes use of a global network of premium parts suppliers, alongside a matching network of award-winning custom painters and fabricators.

Depending on the specification and complexity of the build, timelines from initial consultation to completion and delivery are typically four to six months. During this time, updates are shared with the client, including videos and face-t-face meetings where required.

Due to the complexity and detail of the One of One programme, Norton can only engage with a limited number of clients a year. Norton Motorcycles endeavours to ensure that brand values are maintained and as such, the One of One process is selective.

Interested parties can email Bespoke@nortonmotorcycles.com to register.

Golden Opportunity: Norton Motorcycles Launches One Of One Colour Customisation ProgrammeCustomising a racing legend
To celebrate the launch of the programme, Norton Motorcycles will unveil its first publicly shown One of One motorcycle – a V4SV inspired by the White Charger – at this year’s Bike Shed Moto Show in London on 24th – 26th May.

The White Charger is Steve Hislop’s famed 1992 Senior Isle of Man TT winning machine, a RCW588 Norton decorated in white livery, which took an enthralling victory against Carl Fogarty on the Mountain Course. The V4SV One of One is inspired by the livery from what is considered one of Norton’s greatest triumphs in its monumental racing history. There’s even a small ice cream as a nod to the emergency modifications made to the race bike ahead of the Senior race.

The White Charger-inspired motorcycle will be displayed on the Norton Motorcycles stand throughout the Bike Shed Moto Show weekend to showcase the new customisation programme, before heading to Victory Café on the Isle of Man for the TT, and then the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham, to sit alongside the original race bike.

D3O poised to see supported rider Michael Dunlop make Isle of Man TT history

D3o Poised To See Supported Rider Michael Dunlop Make Isle Of Man Tt HistoryThe highlight of the road racing calendar, the Isle of Man TT, is due to get underway next week and D3O is eagerly anticipating success for Michael Dunlop.

Having supported the Northern Irish road racer since 2017, D3O is his protection of choice for tackling the closed roads of the 37.73mile long Mountain Course at speeds of over 200mph.

Dunlop has recently competed in the North West 200, which is used by a lot of riders as their pre-TT test, in several categories and successfully tested his bikes on “The Triangle” ahead of the Isle of Man event. Michael enjoyed podium success this year with third place finishes in the Tides Restaurant Supersport race, the Anchor Bar Superbike race, the Amici Ristorante Superstock race, the Fraser Homes Supersport race and the Briggs Equipment Superbike race.

All focus is now on the 2024 Isle of Man TT where D3O-supported Michael Dunlop could become the most successful TT rider of all time. At the moment the record is 26 wins and is held by Michael’s uncle Joey, while Michael himself has 25 wins to his name. The 35-year old will have eight chances for victory as he will compete in all two-wheel classes (Superbike, Supersport, Superstock and Supertwin), where there are two races per category.

The partnership between the market leader for impact protection and the TT icon not only benefits Dunlop, who is known for his aggressive riding style and for scraping the walls, but the wider motorcycling community. “I can do nothing to help safety bar surround myself with the best stuff I possibly can. My helmet, my suit, my armour. With D3O you get the best of both worlds – it fits you perfectly, but it also provides the best protection that you can ask for,” said Michael Dunlop. The distinctive orange protectors, that are available through a variety of brand partners, are manufactured with testing and feedback provided by athletes like Michael to help make them the lightest, most comfortable and most protective on the market.

The 2024 Isle of Man TT races will get underway on Monday 27 May with the first Free Practice and Qualifying sessions, before racing gets underway with the Monster Energy Supersport TT Race 1 on Saturday 1 June.

About D3O
D3O is the world’s leading impact protection company that develops and markets the most advanced impact protection materials and products for leading global brands that include Formula 1 teams, Rukka, Belstaff, Triumph, Harley-Davidson, Furygan, adidas, the US Department of Defense, and NASA. From body protection for professional athletes and motorcyclists to helmet liner systems that mitigate against traumatic brain injury, D3O is recognised as the authority on Impact Protection. The best untold story of the Isle of Man TT races

The Best Untold Story Of The Isle Of Man Tt RacesDave Madsen-Mygdal, a privateer road racer, started racing at the Isle of Man TT in the early 1980s and has since amassed 149 TT race starts… more than anyone in the history of the world’s most dangerous motorcycle event.

Now in his late  60’s, his passion for road racing keeps burning bright as he prepares for the starting line again.

Faster Than Life gives an exclusive insight into the tight-knit road racing world, family, friendships, the highs, the lows and the generational involvement. The film is not just focused on racing but the human aspect and created in a way accessible to viewers who might not be avid motorbike fans.

The feature documentary follows Dave in 2019 through the two COVID-cancelled TT years and culminates in behind-the-scenes action of TT 2022.  The viewer gets an insight into what it takes for a privateer to get onto the start line of the world’s pinnacle motorcycle race, showing some epic onboard and track shots of Dave as he races through towns, mountains and between the trees & hedges at 150mph in the Supertwin race.

The independent film has been produced by Felipe Costa and Chip Gulland, who are based on the Isle of Man and have worked on a number of projects together combining aerial filming and experience in the Brazilian film industry. Their work has been featured in short films, documentaries and national advertisements while filming in a run-and-gun style.

The film story is 100% complete, and after a successful premiere with two screenings (attended by Dave, family, team, friends and media), the film is now available behind a paywall. Proceeds from this will enable the film to be polished off (image & audio) before submitting to film festivals and streaming platforms. We are receiving feedback from many people on Facebook, Instagram, TT fans, those who aren’t into bikes, motorcycle media and the broader media we will be sharing. The support and participation of road racing fans will be greatly appreciated.

The film can be seen here: https://fasterthanlife.uk/

“No one will repeat what Dave has achieved”
“You’ve seen Dave. He does things his own way”
“True road racing legend.”

#GrazieCapitano: Aleix Espargaro announces retirement from MotoGP in Barcelona

#graziecapitano: Aleix Espargaro Announces Retirement From Motogp In BarcelonaThe Aprilia Racing rider will bow out at the end of 2024 – so here are a few career highlights, quotes and more after the announcement.

In a special Press Conference at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) has announced that he will retire from Grand Prix racing at the end of 2024. The #41 has competed in more than 300 Grands Prix over a career spanning nearly two decades, building a lasting legacy that includes taking Aprilia’s first ever premier class win.

Espargaro’s first key success was winning the FIM CEV in 2004, and the same year he made his Grand Prix debut with an appearance in the 125cc World Championship. In 2005 he competed in his first full GP season, in the 125cc class, before appearances in the 125cc and 250cc classes in 2006. For 2007 and 2008 he remained in the intermediate class, becoming a consistent top ten finisher as well as linking up with Aprilia machinery for the first time.

2009 saw Espargaro get his first taste of the MotoGP™ class as he raced as a replacement rider for Pramac at Indianapolis, Misano, Sepang and Valencia, before a full time move to the premier class for 2010 in the same team. Two P8s were his best finishes, but 2011 would see Espargaro move back to Moto2™. The season saw him take his first GP podium, on home turf at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, and from there the opportunity to move back to MotoGP™ beckoned for 2012. He joined the Aspar team and stayed there in 2013, too, making a name for himself as the frontrunner in the CRT class.

The same was true in 2014 as he moved to Forward Yamaha and the #41 took his maiden premier class podium that season – a stunning second place at a wet MotorLand Aragon. He also took his first pole position at Assen. From there, Espargaro would become a factory rider after impressing over a number of seasons in the CRT.

First, he joined Team Suzuki Ecstar for 2015 and 2016. He took the factory’s first pole since 2007 at the 2015 Catalan GP, and took consistent top ten and top five results. After two seasons in blue, his next stop was Aprilia Racing in a move that would go on to make some history for both.

Proving a key part of the project from 2017, Espargaro and Aprilia steadily moved forward season by season. By 2021 the duo celebrated their first podium together, at the British Grand Prix, and in 2022 history was made. The Argentinean Grand Prix saw Espargaro come out swinging from the off, and on race day he kept it calm and collected to take a stunning first premier class win for him – and for Aprilia. It was no flash in the pan either, with four podiums in a row from Portugal to Mugello and another at Aragon seeing them stake a claim on the upper echelons of the Championship.

2023 continued the success. A podium at Assen preceded a stunning victory at Silverstone, and there was more to come as the #41 stood on the top step in Barcelona after an awesome showdown against teammate Maverick Viñales. It was a historic 1-2 for the Noale factory, and after Espargaro had also won the Tissot Sprint in a near-perfect weekend.

By the time 2024 concludes, Espargaro can expect to have the third most starts of any rider in history. He’s two behind MotoGP™ Legend Loris Capirossi, who is third on the all-time list, as it stands. He will have taken at least three MotoGP™ wins and podiums in both Moto2™ and MotoGP™, and he will forever have been a vital part of the project that saw Aprilia take their first premier class glory.

Check out some quotes from an emotional Aleix below, watch the full press conference, and join us in saying… #GrazieCapitano!

#graziecapitano: Aleix Espargaro Announces Retirement From Motogp In BarcelonaALEIX ESPARGARO: “First thing, thank you everyone for coming, it’s amazing to see all of you here. As you can imagine, at the end of this season I will retire from being a full-time MotoGP rider. It’s been a nice journey, I’ve enjoyed it a lot, so thank you everybody.

“This is a special place, where I began riding, and where last year was a dream come true to me, so it’s the perfect place to announce that I will retire from being a full-time rider. My trajectory has been quite different, like for all riders, it’s not easy and nobody gives you anything for free, but mine has been really very strange. No one, not even a Hollywood movie, could have thought that at 30 years old, I could win races and take podiums with a brand that hadn’t done it before. So I’m very happy and proud, it’s never enough but I’m very proud of how far I’ve come. The kid who made his debut here many years ago would be very happy.

“I’ve always made a lot of mistakes in life because I do everything from the heart and not from the head, but that’s how I am. My head says I can continue racing, and be fast on a grid of riders who are the best in history, and I feel competitive, and physically good, but my heart is asking me to stop. To spend more time at home, be with my wife and kids, so that’s why I’ve decided to step aside and enjoy life in a more relaxed way.

“More than anything, I want to thank Aprilia. These last two or three years have been a dream with everything we’ve achieved since I arrived with Romano, Massimo and Paolo. We made history and I’ll be eternally grateful for everything they’ve given me, and everything I’ve been able to give to them. I want to thank Carmelo and Carlos because I’ve grown up here, this has been my life, my school, everything. For my kids too.

“I want to thank my family, my brother, who has always been my point of reference. And to all my personal team: Albert Valera, without whom my sporting life would never have been like this and who is now such a part of my life, and to my wife Laura. And thanks to all the riders in the paddock. I’ve tried to do everything as well as I know how, and I’m very happy. Thank you all.

“There are many riders in the world, and in this space today, who won more than me, but I gave everything I had and worked very, very hard. Many times I felt maybe I didn’t have the talent of others riders but by working hard I reached quite a high level. And once again with Aprilia seeing all these memories of the last two or three seasons, it’s amazing. I was dreaming, and that’s one of the reasons I decided to stop. It’s enough, I already had so much fun and I want to retire from being a full-time rider with a good feeling. It’s not been an easy week, I felt sometimes I was jumping into a strange space, but I’m really happy.”

GIVI offers the luggage solution for best-selling adventure bikes

Givi Offers The Luggage Solution For Best-selling Adventure BikesInnovation and functionality are key traits of the new Outback EVO side cases from the Italian company to improve the load capacity of models with high exhausts.

Side cases can be difficult to fit on adventure bikes, as conventional models often don’t have space on the side where the exhaust protrudes. GIVI, the world leader in motorbike accessories, has an R&D department made up of motorcycle enthusiasts who understand the needs of its users. That’s why they dedicate all their effort and passion to making accessories that adapt to all types of models. An example of this is its top of the range line: the Outback EVO, which includes a new 33-litre capacity side case that, with its cut-away design, fits one of these bikes’ silhouettes perfectly without compromising storage space or stability. It can also be complemented with a new 42-litre top case.

Givi Offers The Luggage Solution For Best-selling Adventure BikesFinding the perfect case for every bike that meets every rider’s needs just got easier thanks to GIVI. That’s because it has a wide range of side and top cases, both in aluminium and plastic that adapt to all types of motorbikes, like its Outback EVO range. It’s one line that as well as having options with a variety of capacities, now presents a new more compact version to adapt perfectly to adventure bikes with high exhausts.

Givi Offers The Luggage Solution For Best-selling Adventure BikesThis Outback EVO side cut-out case, with a 33litre capacity, is the latest example of GIVI’s commitment to innovation and motorbike accessory design. With its combination of functionality, style and durability, this case is the perfect addition to any motorbike adventure. Made of highquality materials and equipped with the MONOKEY® CAM-SIDE attachment system, it ensures a secure hold in even the most demanding of conditions. What’s more, the Security Lock locking system provides additional protection for your belongings.

The new Outback Evo retains all the technical features of the previous models, like the lid rotation system (Detachable Lid System), reinforced in stainless steel, which makes it possible to stop the rotation of the lid at the desired point and remove it completely. And thanks to the Hold it Active System, it allows you to tilt the case without having to unhook it completely from the side support, making it easier to open the lid in the presence of a top case.

Givi Offers The Luggage Solution For Best-selling Adventure BikesThe ideal companion for this cut-out case is the the 42-litre Outback Evo top case, with the capacity to store a modular helmet, and which also has the same technical features as the previous models, such as the MONOKEY® fastening system. That’s not all; the lid has a friction rotation system (Adjustable Resistance Hinge System), which allows the closing speed to be adjusted according to the user’s preferences.

In terms of aesthetics, both the 33-litre side case and the 42-litre top case follow the aesthetic line of the range, which is highlighted by the new angles that make it possible to dispense with the strap loops and better secure the attachment to the tubular handles. Both are available in two colour versions: black and aluminium. And they feature a modern, angular design that fits adventure and tourer bikes like a glove.

In addition to their attractive looks and exceptional functionality, all Outback EVO cases are available with a wide range of optional accessories to meet the specific needs of every rider. From internal courtesy lights to waterproof internal bags, GIVI offers a variety of options to customise them to individual preferences.

These new members of the Outback EVO family are available as follows:

  • 33-litre side case in aluminium colour: £309.17+VAT
  • 33-litre side case in black: TBC
  • 42-litre top case in aluminium colour: 303.75+VAT
  • 42 litre top case in black colour: TBC

Motor Racing Legend Michael Dunlop Wins Sponsorship From Iconic Auctioneers

Motor Racing Legend Michael Dunlop Wins Sponsorship From Iconic AuctioneersMotor racing legend Michael Dunlop wins sponsorship from Iconic Auctioneers aiming for the title of all time winner of Isle of Man TT.

Michael Dunlop is out to improve his second place in the all-time win list at the Isle of Man TT– currently with 25 wins to his name, one behind his uncle Joey.

With the start of the Isle of Man TT close approaching, Iconic Auctioneers is delighted to announce its sponsorship of motor racing legend Michael Dunlop. Michael Dunlop, 35, is the Northern Irish professional motorcycle racer who currently sits second in the all-time win list at the Isle of Man TT with 25 wins, second only to his late uncle Joey. Bike racing is a family tradition that has come at no small cost to the Dunlops, but he is determined to lift that coveted title of Top Man at the Isle of Man TT.

Nick Whale, Chairman of Iconic Auctioneers said “We are delighted to be sponsoring Micheal as he sets out to beat his late uncle’s record. I knew Michael’s late father, Robert, and sponsored him during his racing career, and have known Michael since he was young. The family connection go back decades. It will be great to see our company logo go round the TT circuit and support Micheal in this way.”

This year Michael is attempting to beat his uncle Joey’s record of 26 TT wins. The family speak about the ‘blood of legends’ with some feeling and meaning. Nick Whale says he is funding Michael because of his deep knowledge of the Dunlop family and their capacity to deliver on their ambitions.

Michael is no stranger to triumphs in this field of motorcycle racing: he has on numerous occasions been selected by the whole global motorcycle community as the most popular motorcyclist in the world.

Iconic Auctioneers Motorcycle Department which regularly holds sales for a cross section of modern and classic motorcycles will be sponsoring Michael in two races at the TT. The RST Superbike TT on 2nd June and the Milwaukee Senior TT on 8th June.

Michael will be racing a Honda Fireblade No. 6 (his regular number) which shows support from Iconic Auctioneers, as it bears their logo.(pictured)

Motor Racing Legend Michael Dunlop Wins Sponsorship From Iconic AuctioneersMichael has many firsts to his name but one which stands out and is now part of TT history is that he did the first sub-17-minute lap of the circuit. He clocked the first ever sub-17-minute lap of the Mountain Course – 16m 58s, at an average speed of 133.37 mph. It’s also the first time a rider has lapped at more than 133mph.

Spelling out his race philosophy Michael Dunlop says: “With me basically what you see is what you get. I say it how it is, I run a tight ship and I’m here to win, not to make up the numbers”.  And he adds: “It’s in the DNA.”

Nick Whale comments further: “Sponsoring Michael is for me the act of a friend honouring both him, his late brother, and his father who was a good friend, and also his Uncle Joey. To say that they are a remarkable family is not to say the half of it. They are motorcycle racing royalty and so it is an honour for Iconic Auctioneers to be sponsoring Michael.”

Dunlop has been as having “an aggressive style” which was “spectacular to watch”.  All eyes will once more be on him as he takes on perhaps the greatest challenge of his life to beat his Uncle Joey’s record at the Isle of Man TT setting a new record that will doubtless stand for years.

Along with riders and participants, the 2024 World Speed Trials also presents a unique opportunity for spectators. “In contrast to events abroad, the spectators can experience the races up close,” explains Rudolf Steck, owner of SwissPerformance. At natural surface race courses such as salt flats or lake beds, spectators cannot get close to the racing action. But at an established racing venue, spectators may have an up-close experience and witness the thrill of high speeds, as well as the technical skill and hands-on ingenuity required to compete for a prestigious FIM Land Speed World Record.

At the inaugural World Speed Trials by SwissPerformance in September 2023, eight new records were awarded. Nina Prinz and Andreas Holzer competed for the same record, and after an all-day battle, the FIM Land Speed World Record went to Prinz aboard her Suzuki GSX-R 1000R with a breathtaking speed of 306.120 km/h (190.214 mph). High speed of the week went to PS Sport Motorrad Magazine’s Johannes Müller aboard the supercharged Kawasaki Ninja H2R. With the help of Kawasaki Germany, Müller was able to reach a scorching speed of 330.766 km/h (205.528 mph).

“After a successful first edition, World Speed Trials is intended to become a regular annual European event, and be established and continually expanded as a counterweight to events overseas,” added event promoter Steck. Himself a passionate FIM Land Speed World Records competitor and experienced event promoter, “Ruedi” Steck is looking forward another exciting event in August.

Former Champions star in Principal Insurance Masters at Mondello Park

Former Champions Star In Principal Insurance Masters At Mondello ParkDerek Sheils and Brian McCormack were the stars as the 2024 Principal Insurance Masters Superbike Championship continued last weekend at Mondello Park (May 18th & 19th).

The former Superbike Champions shared the wins with Sheils taking Rounds 4 and 5 and McCormack round 6. Oisin Maher also laid down a marker in Supersport with three wins ahead of former champion Emmett O’Grady.

The grids for Superbike and Supersport lined up without championship leader Kevin Keyes, following a Friday testing accident which put the Daracore Racing rider out for the weekend. That left Sheils and McCormack, on their Road House Macau backed BMW’s to battle it out for the wins. McCormack lead the opening two races before Sheils moved by to secure his first wins of the season, while Peter Moloney’s Suzuki took third in race one and Emmett O’Grady did the same, on the TAG Racing Honda, in race two. Ronan Waters took the opening two Superbike Cup wins ahead of Declan Madden in race one and Ryan Whitehall in race two.

Race three was shortened following a stoppage and with the re-run taking place over just six laps, Sheils was in more of a hurry to get to the front. The Wicklow rider lead at the end of lap one and pushed hard enough to set his best ever time around Mondello Park, less than 0.4 seconds off the lap record. However, in his efforts to break away from McCormack, Sheils uncharacteristically pushed too hard and dropped his bike at the start of lap four. The demise of Sheils left McCormack to cruise home, two seconds clear of O’Grady with County Down’s Daniel Matheson third. Waters took another Cup win ahead of Superbike rookie Darren Tierney and Declan Madden. McCormack now leads the Superbike points from Keyes and O’Grady with Waters and Madden the top two in the Cup class.

The three Supersport races were also two-horse races with teammates Oisin Maher and Emmett O’Grady battling throughout the weekend. In the end it was the ever improving Maher who took the wins, with the Tipperary youngster bringing his AKR Thomas Bourne Racing Honda home ahead of team mate O’Grady on each occasion. The third spot on the podium was shared between Cup front-runners, Brandon Kavanagh and Jack Whearty, with Kavanagh taking the first two and Whearty the third. Kavanagh also took two Cup wins to Whearty’s one and now sits on top of the standings ahead of Whearty and Gary Reilly while in the main championship Maher, O’Grady and Kavanagh all overtook the absent Keyes

Maher’s excellent start to the season continued in the Megabikes Supertwin category where he took his VTL Aprilia to three victories, continuing his unbeaten start to the year. Sean Brolly took second each time on his Aprilia with the Italian manufacturer also filling third place on two occasions, with Kelan Smith on board, while Jason Whelan’s Kawasaki was the only non Aprilia to make the podium. The Production Twin class produced three different winners with Michael Murphy taking his maiden win in race one, Mark McGauran wining race two and Jeff Quilter finishing off the weekend with a victory that gave him back his championship lead.

The DM Groundworks Junior races resulted in a trio of Junior Supersport wins for Reuben Sherman Boyd, with Alanna Maher best of the rest, taking two seconds and a third. Joey Milliken and Rhys Gates also made the podium over the weekend. In Moto1 it was Fionn O’Connell who did all the winning with six different riders making the podium over the three races.

The next Principal Insurance Masters event sees the championship continue on the Mondello Park National Track at the end of June with three more rounds scheduled for all classes.

Enthusiasts support National Motor Museum through Memorial Motors donations

Enthusiasts Support National Motor Museum Through Memorial Motors Donations
© National Motor Museum

Motoring enthusiasts and their families are supporting the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu by donating their classic vehicles through a new Memorial Motors scheme, their legacy helping to support the Museum while creating a fitting tribute to their own motoring stories.

Recently established and now fully up-and-running, Memorial Motors can help families with the dilemma of what to do with a loved one’s cherished vehicle after they have passed away, taking the hassle out of what can be a difficult situation. The scheme also gives enthusiasts who are no longer able to look after their much-loved motor a positive way to pass it on and to help make a difference.

As a charitable organisation which does not receive core government funding, the National Motor Museum relies upon the generous donations of its supporters, with its mission to promote education, research and conservation in motoring history. If a donated vehicle is not accessioned and unable to go on display, it is auctioned through the Museum’s specialist auction partners, with all the proceeds raised going to support the charity as it keeps motoring heritage alive.

Helen Merrill of the Museum’s Development team said: “We are fortunate that people looking to rehome a historic vehicle have thought of the National Motor Museum as an important place to leave a legacy, whether they are motoring enthusiasts looking to part with their pride and joy and considering making a bequest, or families who have inherited a loved one’s vehicle.

“With Memorial Motors, we are able to take these vehicles, to provide invaluable funding for the Museum, and also a fitting tribute to the enthusiast who loved and cared for the car or motorbike for many years. Not only will the owner be acknowledged in the Museum and on our website, but their ownership story and legacy timeline will become part of our own story and archive.”

Director of Collections, Andrea Bishop said: “The Museum Team meet regularly to discuss all vehicle donation offers. Those which are not accepted (accessioned) into the Collection, are subject to an additional conversation with the donor. We explain the Memorial Motors scheme and ask how the prospective donor would feel about their gift benefitting the Museum, but not becoming part of the Collection. If the scheme is right for them, then the Development Team work with our partners to organise the pick up, clearance and auction process, making sure that all matters are dealt with sensitively and in a stress-free way.”

The scheme has started to attract a number of donations, including a variety of cars and motorbikes, with the Museum collecting the story and memories behind each beloved vehicle. A 1989 Jaguar XJ-S, treasured by its long-term owner before he sadly passed away, and a much-loved 1991 Lotus Elan SE Turbo, donated by the late owner’s family, have been joined by a 2003 Ford F150 Boss truck and even a restoration project 1975 Renault 4 TL, along with a pair of twin-cylinder motorcycles, a 1950s AJS and a 1960s BSA.

Another bequest included three motorcycles; a crash-damaged 1977 BMW R100 was sold at auction, and its well-preserved stablemates, a 1913 Douglas and a 1930 Velocette KSS, have been returned to running order and will go on display in the Museum’s motorcycle gallery as additions to the vehicle Collection.

Estate clearances are also an option through the scheme, meaning that in addition to vehicles, all manner of saleable items, including antiques, art, jewellery and collectables, can be considered.

Six Races Not For the Feint-Hearted

This year’s Greystone LLC 500cc Race would appear to be a wide-open affair with last year’s winner Adam McLean absent, however the winning rider may be missing, but the winning machine is returning, with Manx Rider Joe Yeardsley in the saddle. Joe took his maiden victory on the Colas Billown Course in 2023 in the Senior Post Classic Superbike, setting a new lap record in the process, so he will be out to prove the Royal Enfield win twelve months ago was no fluke.

There will be another twenty-nine competitors, who will be all after passing the chequered flag first, including the other two podium place-men, Alan Oversby on the 500 Honda-4, and Andy Hornby on the Black Eagle 500 MV Agusta-3 cylinder.

Add to the mix Mike Browne, Steven Elliott, Gary Hutton, Will Loder, Barry Davidson, Stuart Robinson, and Paul Cassidy amongst others and you can be assured that the seven-lap race will not be a dull affair – far from it!

The six lap Quine & Cubbon Printers Lightweight Classic and Ultra Lightweight Post Classic Race has attracted twenty-two entries and once again it would appear that Keith Shannon will be the man to get the better of on his 250cc Suzuki T20. The St Helen’s man will have Andy Hunt, and Barry Davidson (2nd & 3rd in 2023), along with Geoff Bates, Richard Ford, and Brian Mateer and others to keep at bay in his attempt to get to the chequered flag and retain his trophy.

In the Post Classic 125cc class, only podium man from last year entered is second place man Simon Lehane, but he will have opposition from Dan Sayle, Owen Monaghan, Mark Herbertson amongst others.
The Vintage MCC (IOM Section) 350cc Junior Race, has always provided some fast, close, exciting racing and with a full grid again, made up mainly of the protagonists from the opening 500cc Senior race, sparks will fly from the change of the lights! Hornby, Oversby, Browne, McGahan, Elliott, Ford, Hutton, Loder, Davidson, Shannon, Bates, Moore – pull a name from a hat and you could be on a winner.

The Blackford Financial Services Consolation Race gives those that failed to qualify to start in the 350cc Junior, 500cc Senior, Junior and Senior Post Classic Superbikes and Unlimited races, the chance to enjoy a six-lap race around the Colas Billown Course, with the first 500cc rider home receiving the Ian Bainbridge Trophy.

The UGGLY Post Classic Superbike Race will have another thirty competitors vying for the winner’s laurels, they include last year’s winner Joe Yeardsley, who set a new lap record in 2023 at 106.535mph during a hard-fought race with Yorkshireman Jamie Coward. Coward and Paul Jordan are having a sabbatical this year, so it will be up to the likes of Rhys Hardisty, Andy Hornby, Paul Cassidy, Mike Browne, Marcus Simpson, Dennis Booth, Hefyn Owen, Marc Colvin, and Darren Creer plus others to keep the Manxie honest during the final solo race of the meeting in what should be an exciting race.

The second Sidecar race at this year’s Blackford’s Pre-TT Classic Road Races, bring the curtain down on the main race day, Sunday.

With last year’s winner playing away with modern machinery, second and third place crews Jack Gristwood and Alice Smith and Danny Quirk, with new passenger Sharon Reeves, who is a newcomer to Billown, will no doubt have their eyes on the top spot of the podium. Again, the remainder of the field have the same ambitions, taking the chequered flag first, they include previous winner Mike Bellaby and Dave Gristwood, Tony Thirkell and William Moralee, Kenny Howles and Jordan Forrest and previous Southern 100 Sidecar champion Greg Lambert with Andrew Haynes in the chair amongst others. Will it be a repeat of Saturday’s race, or will there be a new ending?

Once the racing is concluded, the focus moves to the Castletown Market Square for the unique outdoor Prize Presentation, commencing at 7.30pm, where you can join in the celebrations of the award winners and show your appreciation of all the competitors, who will have given their all to entertain the fans and spectators during the 37th anniversary of the first running of the Pre-TT Classic Road Races in 1988.

Lee Healey’s Challenging Weekend at Donington Park

Lee Healey's Challenging Weekend At Donington ParkLee Healey, riding the Staxson GSXR1000R, faced a series of setbacks and challenges during the second round of the Pirelli National Superstock with Moneybarn Vehicle Finance at Donington Park.

Healey’s weekend got off to a difficult start in Free Practice 1, where he struggled to find the ideal bike setup. A red flag incident further compounded his troubles, limiting him to just four laps in the session. In the combined practice times, Healey finished 37th overall with a best lap time of 1:37.766, 7.860 seconds off the pace set by Joe Talbot (JR Performance Racing).

Free Practice 2 brought more misfortune for Healey. After making changes to the bike, he was taken out at Coppice corner on his out lap, cutting the session short once again. Reflecting on the incident, Healey stated, “FP2 we were back on track having made some changes, but unfortunately I only managed an out lap before getting taken out into coppice, cutting the session very short again!”

Lee Healey's Challenging Weekend At Donington Park

Qualifying proved to be Healey’s first real opportunity to get some laps under his belt. However, the changes made to the bike setup didn’t yield the desired results, and Healey was unable to meet the 110% qualifying time. Despite this setback, he was granted permission to race.

Determined to turn his fortunes around, Healey and his team made further adjustments to the bike setup after qualifying. The changes paid off and in Sunday’s warm-up session, Healey finished 35th with a lap time of 1:37.001, showing the signs of improvement he and the team around him are capable of. With a little more track time the results may well have been different but undoubtably showcase Healey’s ability and potential. Potential we will unquestionably see in future rounds.

In the race, Healey maintained a consistent pace and was closing in on the rider ahead. Unfortunately, he lost the front end of his Suzuki at Goddards corner and crashed out of the race, marking his second off-track excursion of the weekend. Healey commented, “The race was going well, we maintained a consistent pace and was gaining on the rider ahead. Unfortunately, I lost the front at Goddard’s and managed to find myself off the bike again for the second time in as many days!!”

Lee Healey's Challenging Weekend At Donington Park

Despite the disappointment, Healey remains optimistic about the future. He noted, “No major damage done, onto the next one. Taking positives from these weekends as we hope for the second half of the season to be stronger as we have a starting point for each track.”

Lee Healey's Challenging Weekend At Donington Park

As Lee Healey and his team look ahead to the upcoming rounds, they will no doubt be working hard to fine-tune the bike setup and build upon the lessons learned at Donington Park. With determination and a positive mindset, Healey aims to come back stronger and showcase his true potential in the highly competitive Pirelli National Superstock championship.

The racing community eagerly awaits Healey’s return to the track, knowing that his resilience and dedication will drive him to overcome the challenges faced at Donington Park and fight for strong results in the races to come.

Rutters to be immortalized at TT2024.

The name Rutter has been written large across the Isle of Man TT races for nearly 60 years. This year the name will be immortalized; with the corner currently known as Glen Helen 1 being renamed Rutters’ in their honour.

Tony Rutter started his TT career in 1965; with Michael beginning his in 1994. Between them they have amassed 170 race starts and 38 podium finishes. It is appropriate that each has won 7 races. He won four races for Ducati when he dominated the Formula 2 races, his wins coming in 1981; 1982; 1983 and 1985; he was second to Graeme McGregor in 1984. He also had success on Suzuki; taking a Production podium and was second to Mike Hailwood in the 1979 Senior TT on an RG500.

Michael began his TT career in 1994 on the Medd Honda. The next year he was on McCullough Ducati and Honda machinery. His first podium came in the 1996 Formula 1 on the big Ducati. A podium finish in 1997 for V&M Honda was followed in 1998 by a win in the Junior; 2nd in the F1 and 3rd in the Production for Honda Britain. He took 3 podiums for V&M Yamaha in 2000; including 2nd in the Senior when he exactly matched Joey Dunlop’s best ever lap of 123.87mph set on the final lap.

After a sabbatical to concentrate on BSB Michael returned in 2007 and has been a top 10 man in all solo classes since then. He won 5 TT Zero Races; a class that he was never beaten in and a Lightweight (Supertwins) Race in 2017. He has lapped at over 130mph 18 times; his best lap being 131.709mph.

A Rutter Legacy Lap will be held on Wednesday June 5th. Michael will ride one of his father’s race winning Ducati machines. Another of the Ducatis and a TZ350 will be ridden by two of

Tony’s contemporaries. Phillip McCallen and Ian Simpson will take part on machines raced by Michael. John McGuinness will have the pleasure of riding the Honda RC213V-S that Michael raced last year (its final race appearance).
