Title fight wide open as the Principle Insurance Masters returns to the track

Title Fight Wide Open As The Principle Insurance Masters Returns To The TrackThe 2024 Principal Insurance Masters Superbike Championship races back into Mondello Park this weekend (June 29th & 30th) with the biggest entry of the season so far, as it reaches its halfway point. 170 riders will contest Rounds 7, 8 and 9 of the Masters Championship along with Round 2 of the FIM MiniGP Ireland Series, the only FIM World Championship series running in Ireland.

With the support of Irish Motorcycle Insurance specialists Principal Insurance, Part of Howden, the Masters series is continuing to get back to the glory of its most successful season, in 2022, just prior to Motorcycle Sport’s enforced break. Returning for 2024 the championship was expected to take time to get back to full strength, but the enthusiasm of Irish competitors and fans has seen the series exceed all expectations this season.

The headline Principal Superbike class will have some opposition for fans attention this weekend, as the Supersport ranks have swollen to more than forty five bikes. The quality of the riders and machinery at the front of the Superbike field, which includes Kevin Keyes, Brian McCormack and Michael Sweeney who are all getting back into Short Circuit mode following the Isle of Man TT, will guarantee plenty of high speed action. However the sheer number of competitive Supersport riders means that the lighter machines could provide the real action this weekend, with Keyes and Sweeney also on the start list, alongside event two stars Oisin Maher and Emmet O’Grady. Superbike and Supersport will headline the weekend’s action with qualifying and race one on Saturday and two prime-time races for each on Sunday.

The Megabikes Twins class is also on the up, with a full grid of Super and Production Twins set to race. In Supertwins Oisin Maher will once again have British Sportbike Championship contender Darragh Crean for opposition, which should make it harder for him to continue his winning streak. The presence of Michael Sweeney and Kevin Baker on the grid, will only add to the competitiveness of the class. The Production class has had four different winners across the fist six rounds and seven different riders on the podium and this unpredictability is expected to continue into June’s event.

The young stars of the DM Groundworks Junior Championship will have a physically tough day on Sunday, as they tackle three races in one day for the first time. The entire field will be out to stop Reuben Sherman Boyd from continuing his Junior Supersport winning streak, with Rhys Gates as the most likely to knock him off the top spot. The concurrent Moto1 races will be just as hard fought, with championship leader Fionn O’Connell looking to maintain his advantage over Fionn Stephens.

The FIM MiniGP class makes its Mondello Park return this weekend and will complete all of its qualifying and racing on Saturday. The FIM sanctioned series, for 10 to 14 year old’s, on identical Ohvale bikes, will run on the full Mondello Park National Circuit for the first time.

Racing on Saturday gets underway from 12:00, once qualifying has been completed. Sunday’s race programme begins a lot earlier with the first race scheduled for 10:00. Admission to the event is €17.50 for adults, booked in advance on-line, or €20 at the gate, while Under 16’s are admitted free. All admission includes free Grandstand seating and a complimentary event programme along with Pit Lane access during the Sunday lunch break.

Just Two Points Separate Jacobsen And Scholtz In Supersport Battle

Just Two Points Separate Jacobsen And Scholtz In Supersport BattleThe Tight Supersport Title Chase Highlights This Weekend’s MotoAmerica Round At Ridge Motorsports Park In Washington.

Only two points separate the top two in the 2024 MotoAmerica Supersport Championship as the series heads to Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton, Washington, June 28-30, for round five. And those two are the two most experienced racers in the field – PJ Jacobsen and Mathew Scholtz.

The Supersport class will be one of four support classes racing this weekend with Stock 1000, Mission Super Hooligan National Championship and Royal Enfield Build. Train. Race. in addition to the two Steel Commander Superbike races.

Supersport – A Battle Of Veterans

Although it seems odd referring to Rahal Ducati Moto’s Jacobsen and Strack Racing’s Scholtz as veterans, they are. At least based on experience and not necessarily age.

Jacobsen, 30, and Scholtz, 32, have been at the game a long time and were both racing in the Superbike class a year ago. It’s hard to imagine one of them not winning this championship as they have combined to win seven of the eight races held so far as the series holds its fifth round this weekend in Washington.

Although Jacobsen leads the title chase by two points, Scholtz has won the most races – four to three – over Jacobsen. The difference in the point standings is in the non-podium finishes. Scholtz has one – a fourth – while Jacobsen has stood on the podium in all eight races.

The only other rider to win a race in 2024 is Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Tyler Scott, but he has three non-finishes to go with his win and he’s mired back in fifth in the point standings.

Third in the championship is held by a third veteran – Jake Lewis. The Altus Motorsports-backed Kentuckian has earned points in every round, including two podium finishes. Thanks to the pace of the two ahead of him, however, he is 86 points behind.

N2 Racing/BobbleHeadMoto’s Blake Davis is fourth in the series standings, seven behind Lewis and 93 behind Jacobsen.

Stock 1000 – The Gillim Runaway Train

Real Steel Motorsports’ Hayden Gillim looked to be headed to his fourth Stock 1000 win of the season two weeks ago at Brainerd when it all went wrong. Gillim crashed out of the lead and with that went any hope of a perfect season for the defending Stock 1000 Champion. Up to that point, Gillim looked like a shoo-in to at least take victory number four.

Gillim later admitted he wanted to see just how fast he could go at a circuit that he’s fond of. He wanted to see how his times would match up against the Superbikes. In retrospect, he said it was a silly thing to be doing.

Even with that miscue, Gillim holds down a 16-point lead on OrangeCat Racing’s Jayson Uribe with Uribe taking advantage of Gillim’s error to win his first-career MotoAmerica race on Sunday at Brainerd. The win marked Uribe’s first podium of the season and it vaulted him to second in the point standings.

The man he passed was BPR Racing’s Bryce Prince with the Californian failing to match his two-podium start to the season at Barber. Still, Prince has finished all four races and that puts him three points clear of fifth-placed Benjamin Smith and his FLO4LAW Racing Yamaha YZF-R1.

Mission Super Hooligan National Championship – The Hooligans Are Back

March is a long time ago and Daytona is a distant memory, but the Mission Super Hooligan National Championship makes its return this weekend at Ridge Motorsports Park after a near-five-month hiatus.

With just the two races at Daytona in the books, it’s Saddlemen Racing/Harley-Davidson’s Cory West who sits atop the championship standings by five points over S&S/Indian Motorcycle’s Troy Herfoss by five points and Herfoss’s teammate Tyler O’Hara by eight points.

Indian FTR1200-mounted Herfoss and Harley-Davidson Pan America-mounted West came out of Daytona with a victory apiece in the two races.

With the top six covered by 21 points, there are still plenty of chances to move up the leaderboard and that’s exactly what KWR/Harley-Davidson’s Cody Wyman, Saddlemen Racing/Harley-Davidson’s Jake Lewis and Roland Sands Design’s Hawk Mazzotta are aiming for from their fourth, fifth and sixth spots in the title chase.

Royal Enfield Build. Train. Race. – Three Give Chase

With Mikayla Moore opting to sit out race one of the Royal Enfield Build. Train. Race. at Road America after suffering some bumps and bruises in her Twins Cup practice crash, everybody else in the class was given a glimmer of hope.

That lasted for a race. After Cassie Creer won race one in Moore’s absence, Moore struck back with a win in race two that gives her three victories in the first four races of the 2024 season.

But thanks to her sitting out race one, there are three racers within 12 points of Moore in the title chase. Emma Betters and Camille Conrad are tied for second, 10 points adrift, with Creer holding down fourth and 12 points behind Moore.

Aubrey Credaroli is fifth in the standings and working to make up for a non-finish in the first race of the season at Barber.

Pre-Ridge Support Notes…

Xavi Forés swept both of the Supersport races at Ridge Motorsports Park last year en route to the Spaniard ultimately winning the championship. Forés beat Josh Hayes and Teagg Hobbs in race one with Tyler Scott and Hobbs finishing second and third, respectively, in race two.

In Mission Super Hooligan National Championship action a year ago, Tyler O’Hara won both races on the track but was later disqualified after race two for an illegal handlebar modification. O’Hara’s teammate Jeremy McWilliams was second in both races but was also DQ’d from race two. The pair’s DQ gifted the win to Andy DiBrino with Mark Price second and Bobby Fong third. DiBrino was third in Saturday’s race one.

Mikayla Moore came away from Ridge with a clean sweep of the two Royal Enfield Build. Train. Race battles. Moore topped Kayleigh Buyck in both races with Sonya Lloyd scoring a pair of third-place finishes.

MXGP Heads East For Indonesia And The MXGP Of West Nusa Tenggara

As the FIM Motocross World Championship begins the second half of the season, it’s that time of the year when we head to the world’s fourth most populous nation, and the largest archipelagic state on the planet, the Republic of Indonesia!  The first of two Grands Prix to be held at the Selaparang Circuit on the island of Lombok, the MXGP of West Nusa Tenggara is named after the political Province which covers the western portion of the Lesser Sunda Islands.

The island of Lombok is roughly half the size of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, but home to roughly 4 million people, and the circuit itself is on the grounds of the disused airport of Selaparang, on the edge of the Province’s capital city of Mataram.  This will be the second year of action at this particular circuit, after the GP in 2023 saw overall victories for Kawasaki Racing Team’s Romain Febvre in MXGP, and Jago Geerts for the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Team in MX2.

The Indonesian islands have hosted 12 MXGP events at seven different circuits in total, the first being held in 1995, which saw the first ever Grand Prix win for French legend Sebastien Tortelli in the 125cc class at the Yogyakarta circuit, where he also won the following year as part of his first world title-winning campaign.  Yogyakarta hosted three 125cc GPs in total, with nearby Bandung hosting a solitary 250cc-only race in 1997.

More recently, the MXGP World Championship went to Pingkal Pinang in 2017 & ’18, Semarang in 2018 & ’19, and Palembang in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic restricted a return to Indonesia until 2022’s sole event at Sumbawa.

Mxgp Heads East For Indonesia And The Mxgp Of West Nusa Tenggara

The 2024 MXGP World Championship has seen five straight rounds of the red plate swapping between reigning Champ Jorge Prado for Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing and Team HRC’s Tim Gajser before the recent MXGP of Italy.  Sadly for the Spaniard, a first lap collision and pile-up left him with a leg injury that took him out of the second race at Maggiora, leaving the Slovenian, who won the GP overall, with a 34-point gap at the top of the standings as the teams packed the flight cases for Indonesia.

Fortunately for Prado, he was left with nothing worse than heavy bruising and is able to race on two weeks later.  He still has a 37-point advantage over Jeffrey Herlings, who lies third for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.  In the absence of the injured Febvre, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP rider Calvin Vlaanderen, and Kawasaki Racing Team’s Jeremy Seewer moved up to fourth and fifth in the Championship table.

All of the top six in the series have tasted success in Indonesia, with Seewer winning his first ever Grand Prix back in 2017 at Pangkal Pinang’s muddy MX2 race, before Vlaanderen also took his very first GP victory at the same track in MX2 a year later!  Both Prado and Gajser have won three GPs in the islands, although Prado’s were all in MX2.  Herlings won both events in 2018 but hasn’t been to this part of the world since then.  Febvre won both Indonesian events in 2023, starting a five-GP winning streak for the Frenchman, who is sadly still out with his thumb injury from St Jean d’Angely.

The biggest question in MXGP is whether or not Prado will be able to return to the blinding pace of the leading riders in the class, and be able to haul back the points gap to Gajser as the second half of the season gets underway!

MXGP – World Championship Top 10 Classification: 1. Tim Gajser (SLO, HON), 511 Points;   2. Jorge Prado (ESP, GAS), 477 Points; 3. Jeffrey Herlings (NED, KTM), 440 Pts; 4. Calvin Vlaanderen (NED, YAM), 339 Pts; 5. Jeremy Seewer (SUI, KAW), 332 Pts; 6. Romain Febvre (FRA, KAW), 327 Points; 7. Glenn Coldenhoff (NED, FAN), 302 Pts; 8. Pauls Jonass (LAT, HON), 274 Pts; ; 9. Brian Bogers (NED, FAN), 213 Pts; 10. Kevin Horgmo (NOR, HON), 206 Pts.Mxgp Heads East For Indonesia And The Mxgp Of West Nusa Tenggara

MX2 has delivered winning streaks throughout the season so far, with Kay de Wolf winning the first three rounds for Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing, then Liam Everts taking two in a row for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.  De Wolf’s teammate Lucas Coenen delivered his own hat-trick of victories through Galicia, France, and Germany, before his brother Sacha Coenen took his first career overall in Latvia and followed it up in Italy for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, making it a five-GP streak for the Coenen family! De Wolf has kept the Championship leader’s red plate since the opening round, with his current 48-point lead maintained through sheer consistency. Second in the standings for Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing is Simon Laengenfelder, who has also stayed consistent but is still searching for his first GP win since August last year.

Third in the series is the rider who took his first career Grand Prix win in Indonesia last year with a perfect weekend, Lucas Coenen, who won in Sumbawa before Jago Geerts won at Lombok. As Tom Vialle won at Sumbawa in 2022, no other rider in MX2 has won a race in the Asian island nation.

The chase is on at Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, Everts and Andrea Adamo need to catch up from fourth and fifth in the standings, with the reigning Champion now lying over 100 points down on the current series leader.

Delvintor Alfarizi from JM Racing Astra Honda will be the hero for the locals as the rider is the only Indonesian representant in a OAT team. Competing at home with a lot of support from the fans will surely give Alfarizi another motivation to get his scoring tally going in the championship.

As always, the MX2 class has served up far more unpredictable racing than the points table would have you believe, so look out for some wide-open action again amongst the flat-out 250cc combatants!

MX2 – World Championship Top 10 Classification: 1. Kay de Wolf (NED, HUS), 473 Points; 2. Simon Laengenfelder (GER, GAS), 425 Points;  3. Lucas Coenen (BEL, HUS), 421 Pts;  4. Rare barn find stars in classic motorcycle auction

A hugely exciting barn find vintage motorcycle that has been off the road for most of its life is set to be one of the star lots at H&H Classics’ next motorcycle sale, which takes place on 3 July at the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull.

The carefully-curated auction covers all ages, conditions and types of motorcycle, from sporting to touring, and all points in between. More than 200 lots will be offered for sale with over 70 offered without reserve, providing a host of unmissable opportunities for collectors, enthusiasts and would-be buyers.

Rare Barn Find Stars In Classic Motorcycle Auction
A genuine barn find 1951 Vincent Black Shadow Series C will head to auction on 3 July

The barn find, a 1951 Vincent Black Shadow Series C, has been off the road since at least the late 1970s, and is thought to have last seen regular use in the ‘60s. Coming with a fascinating history, the Vincent Owners Club have confirmed that the Series C boasts factory-correct number status. On discovery of the machine, it was found to roll freely and the engine had not seized during its many years of storage. Accompanying the bike is a fantastic history file including sale receipts from 1955 and various engineer reports. Expected to attract much interest, the Black Shadow barn find is estimated between £25,000-30,000.

“We’re incredibly excited to be offering such a wonderful collection of classic motorcycles and vintage scooters at our next two-wheel auction,” comments Mike Davis, motorcycle specialist, H&H Classics. “The quality and variety of machines are sure to excite enthusiasts of many different eras of motorcycling. We have some really fascinating, rare and special bikes that are sure to draw much interest from fans around the world so we can expect to see a lively sale room on the day with plenty of fierce bidding from those looking to add to their collections.”

The auction also features three further Black Shadows: a 1950 example fitted with some subtle upgrades (estimated at £32,000-38,000); a 1952 Series C with all correct factory numbers, coming from 20 years ownership (estimated between £28,000-32,000) and a 1955 Series D which comes from long-term family ownership (estimated £26,000-28,000).

Rare Barn Find Stars In Classic Motorcycle Auction
A 1929 Brough Superior SS100 is the highest valued lot of the sale, estimated between £240,000-280,000

Meanwhile a 1929 Brough Superior SS100 – dubbed ‘the mysterious SS100’ due to it being first registered in 1944 and having what is believed to be a prototype frame as it differs slightly from standard models – comes to the sale with an estimate of £240,000-280,000.

Rare Barn Find Stars In Classic Motorcycle Auction
A c.1922 D.S. Malterre is the only surviving example of only two ever made

While the Brough Superior holds the accolade for the highest value lot of the sale, it’s pipped to the post in the rarity stakes by a c.1922 D.S. Malterre, the sole survivor of the two made. In superbly restored order but having seen little use, the Indian V-twin-powered motorcycle has been displayed at the Goodwood Revival. This unique example has a £22,000-26,000 estimate.

Rare Barn Find Stars In Classic Motorcycle Auction
A 1968 Godet 1330GT offers the chance to own a truly bespoke motorcycle

More than four decades younger than the D.S., the 1968 Godet 1330GT, estimated between £48,000-52,000, runs a 1330cc Vincent engine and is in beautifully-prepared order. It was built to the vendor’s specifications by his friend, Patrick Godet, so offers the chance to own a truly bespoke motorcycle. Having seen little use due to busy work commitments, the vendor feels it is time the Godet passes to a new owner.

Offering an unmissable opportunity for patriotic buyers comes a 1977 Triumph T140D Silver Jubilee which has been described by H&H’s Mike Davis as the best example he has ever seen. To mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee, 1000 examples of the limited-edition model were produced for the UK, with a further 1000 destined for the USA and 400 more for other export markets. The sale’s example has covered only 14 miles from new and has always been properly maintained and carefully stored and it is ready for the road. It has an £8,000-10,000 estimate.

The sale’s oldest lot is a 1913 Douglas 2 ¾-hp, which has an estimate of £7,00-9,000. In fine original condition, it was discovered in the 1980s after many years off the road. Suitably re-commissioned, in 1983 it received a Pioneer certificate and has taken part in the Pioneer Run on numerous occasions.

All lots can be viewed in person at the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull, on the afternoon of Tuesday 2 July from 12pm – 6pm. The sale commences at 1pm on the following day.

Anyone interested in bidding on any of the lots can do so in person, online, via telephone or by leaving a commission bid.

For further details about the auction and all of the lots on offer, visit www.handh.co.uk.

Flat out Assen changes Rookies Cup direction

Flat Out Assen Changes Rookies Cup Direction
Casey O’Gorman, Red Bull Rookies Cup, Dutch MotoGP 23 June 2023
The Rookies Cup is thrilling and unpredictable, we have already had 5 different winners in the first 6 races of the season.

After the swooping changes of elevation in Mugello we arrive in Assen, it’s a flat, very different challenge for the KTM riding teens. The corners are linked in a snaking chain that demands a special mastery as the season pivots into its second half.

The 18th Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup has already demonstrated that it is not just the established stars like Álvaro Carpe, Marco Morelli and Màximo Quiles who can win. Newcomers Brian Uriarte took victory in Le Mans and Valentin Perrone claimed 1st last time out in Mugello.

The best-laid plans

Carpe, the 17-year-old Spaniard, started this season with a 4th and a 1st in Jerez to instigate a very clear plan; Win when you can don’t risk too much and keep building the points. So far he only has that single victory but he has finished on the podium 4 times and always in the top 5, he stands 3rd in the points chase.

Morelli won the first race of the year but has not been able to match Carpe’s consistency, he has yet to get back in the top 5. He fell at the second round and suffered a technical failure in Italy. 7th in the title chase, the Argentine needs a weekend of great results before his 17th birthday next Wednesday.

No Quiles in Assen
Topping the points table is 16-year-old Màximo Quiles but the Spaniard will not be ahead after Assen for he is not allowed to compete after triggering a dramatic incident at the end of the last race. Following Mugello Race 2, the FIM Rookies Cup Stewards Panel stated that Quiles was, “found to have caused a crash by swerving into the line of another rider at the exit at Turn 15.” As a result of this the Panel, “has imposed a Suspension from participation in the Motul TT Assen.”

With 50 points on offer this weekend, Uriarte, Carpe, Perrone and Hakim Danish could all get ahead of him.

The complete racers
Uriarte is a first-year Rookie and just 8 points behind Quiles. The Spaniard started the year with 6th and 3rd in Jerez, not bad. 5th and 1st in Le Mans was better. Double 2nd in Mugello might have thrilled him but the 15-year-old reprised the old ‘second is the first loser’ adage to express his frustration.

One of the youngest Rookies but already commanding a great balance of thought and aggression, he knows exactly what he is doing and why. An old head on young shoulders.

Perrone comes across as more easy-going but certainly not superficial. The 16-year-old Argentine did not know ‘exactly what he is doing and why’ when he took victory in Mugello, admitting that his plan for the last lap was; “Just push like crazy and see what happens.”

Not as measured as Uriarte perhaps or not yet ready to explain in the same way, he seems almost as effective. He stands 4th in the points table having been 2nd in the first race of the season, scored two 4ths and always finished in the top 7.

The kids looking for a comeback
Some have had a more frustrating first three events including Rico Salmela and Ruché Moodley who were both Cup favourites starting their 3rd seasons. Salmela, the 16-year-old Finn, has certainly been in the hunt, two 5thin Jerez, 2nd in Le Mans Race 1. But 20th in Race 2 and a fall in Mugello have left him 6th in the points table with half the total that Quiles has amassed.

The fight is certainly not over but he needs a great Assen, it was not kind to him last year, 20th and 11th. Moodley took 6th in Race 1 and suffered a fall in Race 2 but he can battle for the win. This year a couple of falls have left him 10th in the title chase but the second of those was in no way his fault, the 17-year-old South African was lucky to escape serious injury in the Quiles Mugello incident.

Y-AMT Brings New Levels of Engagement to Motorcycling

Y-amt Brings New Levels Of Engagement To MotorcyclingThe new Yamaha Automated Manual Transmission (Y-AMT) marks the start of a new era for Yamaha by offering an advanced gear shifting technology that introduces a new dimension to sports riding.

Yamaha has long been at the forefront of motorcycle innovation. Each step in the company’s technological development seeks to offer a more immersive riding experience which is even more gratifying for the rider.

This approach is inspired by Yamaha’s Jin-Ki Kanno philosophy, which emphasises the seductive enjoyment of a rider truly feeling in symbiosis with their machine.

The new Yamaha Automated Manual Transmission (Y-AMT) is set to take that feeling further, marking the start of a new era for Yamaha by offering an advanced gear shifting technology that introduces a new dimension to sports riding.

Y-AMT allows riders to fully focus on enjoying the sports performance offered by their motorcycle, by delivering consistently linear shifts to create the most engaging riding experience with the choice of a slick, finger operated manual shift or a two-mode fully automatic transmission.

Y-amt Brings New Levels Of Engagement To MotorcyclingFAST AND PRECISE SHIFTS AT THE TOUCH OF A BUTTON

With a closer and more refined connection to the brain than the feet, the hands are one of the most tactile and powerful tools the human body has.

Shifting by hand alone, as opposed to a foot-and-hand combination, is not only quicker but requires less thinking time, allowing the rider to hyper-focus on throttle and brake application, lean angle, body position and tyre grip levels to intensify the ride. It is for this reason that on Y-AMT models the shifting pedal will not be installed. This means the rider does not have to move their left foot from the footpeg, allowing them to instead focus on their body position and weight distribution through the pegs in order to enhance the control of their motorcycle, especially in cornering.

The Y-AMT system allows for the shifting characteristics of the machine to be adjusted to meet the rider’s preference and different road conditions, with a choice of a finger-operated manual shift, ‘MT’ or the fully automatic ‘AT’.

Using manual transmission (MT), fast and precise gear shifts take just one touch of a button without manually operating a clutch lever. Shifts are controlled with the index finger and thumb, via two see-saw shifting levers – a plus lever for upshifts and a minus lever for downshifts. For greater control in sportier riding, the plus lever can also be pulled to shift up and pushed to shift down with the index finger alone, offering greater freedom, as there is no need to remove the thumb from the handlebars. The size, position and stroke of the lever have been designed to be ideal while wearing gloves, meaning only a minimal amount of finger movement is required to perform shifts.

The clutch actuation is highly progressive, providing the rider with completely natural operation at all speeds. Maximising the power characteristics of Yamaha’s crossplane-concept engine designs and sportiest ride modes, MT has been developed to amplify the fun of sports riding. And with the speed and precision of each shift more consistent than when using even the latest quickshifter, the excitement and adrenaline of the fast, slick gear changes in the sportiest of riding conditions is even more thrilling for the rider.

Using the fully automatic transmission (AT), riders can choose between two programmes to suit different riding scenarios – easily switchable at any time via the press of a dedicated thumb operated ‘mode’ button.

Those looking for a spirited ride on the open road can opt for ‘D+’, which offers a sporty gear change by shifting later in the rev range to maintain the thrill of the ride while still offering the benefits of a fully automatic transmission.

Riders commuting or putting in long distances on the motorways can opt for ‘D’ mode, which delivers a softer gear shift experience, while maintaining a low rpm, to maximise rider confidence during low speed, urban riding and manoeuvrability.

While in AT, the rider can also choose to shift manually at any time by simply using the see-saw shift levers.

In all cases, Y-AMT delivers consistently linear shifts, allowing riders to focus on their body position, cornering, braking and acceleration, whether riding in the city or on the open road.

Y-amt Brings New Levels Of Engagement To MotorcyclingRESEARCH DRIVEN NEW TECHNOLOGIES

Yamaha has previously been at the forefront of automatic shifting on motorcycles, developing the YCC-S (Yamaha Chip Controlled Shift) system for the FJR1300 sports tourer almost two decades ago. YCC-S featured an automatic hydraulic clutch actuation system which allowed the rider to change gear manually using a finger operated gear lever.

In many ways, YCC-S was ahead of its time, and now as a result of Yamaha’s technological development, Y-AMT is set to change the face of sports riding.

The Y-AMT system is the most sporting solution in the two wheeled sector, providing an innovative alternative for the next generation of motorcyclists who crave the exhilaration and performance of a manual gearbox, while gaining the convenience of a fully automatic transmission.

Unlike the hydraulically actuated YCC-S system, Y-AMT utilises two electric actuators to take on the functions traditionally carried out by the rider’s left hand and foot. The system weighs in at only 2.8 kg and has been designed to allow for a slim and lightweight installation, ensuring Yamaha’s famed compact chassis design philosophy is intact with the engine no wider, retaining the light feeling of a conventional motorcycle and preserving the machine’s handling or performance.

Working in conjunction with Yamaha’s ‘ride-by-wire’ throttle control system (YCC-T), switchable ride modes and cruise control functions, a Y-AMT equipped motorcycle can be configured for all kinds of riding.

Where previous similar transmissions for motorcycles have typically been aimed at touring applications, Y-AMT has been developed to enhance the purity of sports riding, allowing the rider to better focus on the more thrilling aspects of the ride.

Y-amt Brings New Levels Of Engagement To MotorcyclingBORN FROM JIN-KI KANNO

Y-AMT perfectly exemplifies the rider-machine relationship emphasised by Yamaha’s Jin-Ki Kanno philosophy, providing a fun and new riding experience whatever the riding conditions, road or purpose of the journey.

Y-AMT equipped motorcycles will mark a shift in the perception of how motorcycles are ridden, resulting in an even more engaged riding experience and delivering Kando, a Japanese word expressing the feeling of deep satisfaction and intense excitement experienced when encountering a product of exceptional value, quality and performance.

Yamaha will begin introducing Y-AMT to a range of models in the near future, bringing this innovation to sport riding, touring and commuting.

TECHNICAL HIGHLIGHTS

  • Manual shifting via finger-operated ‘see-saw’ switch
  • Two automatic shift modes: D+ (sportier gear change) and D
  • Automated clutch and gear shift actuated by electric motor
  • Weight 2.8 kg

Dualways Connects With Arenacross As Youth Experience Partner

Dualways Connects With Arenacross As Youth Experience PartnerDualways, a leading UK distributor of electric dirt and balance bikes has joined forces with the Arenacross Youth Experience Programme to put its brand of Amped and 10TEN bikes in front of thousands of young wanna-be off-road racers.

The machines being put through their paces with the Arenacross Youth Experience powered by Dualways, are specifically designed for novice and youth riders. The collaboration has already given youngsters a unique opportunity to try out the Amped and 10TEN range of fully-electric off-road motorcycles at the recently held Bolesworth International – a horse and country show in Cheshire.

Over the weekend of the 10-day event held in the grounds of Bolesworth Castle, some 200 novice riders threw a leg over an Amped or 10TEN machine, with the Dualways brand exposed to over 7,000 visitors across the two days of the off-road biking experience.

The Arenacross Youth Experience powered by Dualways will now travel to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex in July, and then on to Motorcycle Live at the NEC in Birmingham in November, where the Dualways brands will be put in front of tens of thousands of motorcycle-loving fans.

Commenting on the new alliance, Dualways managing director Henry Maplethorpe said; “We feel this partnership presents our company with an exciting prospect to put our brands in front of a hugely diverse audience. Putting our products in front of the equine community at Bolesworth, quickly followed by the motorsports fans at Goodwood and then motorcycling enthusiasts at Motorcycle Live, is a hugely valuable opportunity.”

Jeff Perrett, Sport Media and Communications for Arenacross, added; “As someone who started riding dirt bikes and motocross as a kid and now looking back 43 years later, I value everything that riding motorcycles has given me. As a young child it gave me a focus and a discipline that has undoubtedly shaped my personality and adult life. It was fun and exciting, and it still is!

“The Amped and 10TEN electric bikes are a perfect fit for the Arenacross Youth Experience. They are fun, reliable and attractively priced, which makes them a great option as an introduction into the world of off-road for those youngsters who initially just want to ‘have a go’.

“It has been well documented that the UK’s motocross scene needs to nurture young talent and help novice riders get on that first step of the motocross racing ladder. If the sport is to succeed, we need to get small bums on bike seats and help them progress through the ranks of what is a brilliant and exciting discipline.”

“Kids riding dirt bikes is awesome, simple as that. Especially in this modern-day society with so many distractions. It keeps them active; it keeps them healthy and focused. It encourages confidence and self-belief and helps with their social skills and to build a strong bond with their family. It did for me and I’ll always be thankful of the life it’s given me.”

Red-Hot Fong Leads The Superbike Pack As MotoAmerica Heads To The Pacific Northwest

Red-hot Fong Leads The Superbike Pack As Motoamerica Heads To The Pacific NorthwestBobby Fong Is Riding A Two-Race Win Streak As Steel Commander Superbike Rolls Into Ridge Motorsports Park And Beaubier Is Back.

Wrench Motorcycles’ Bobby Fong and his eight-point lead in the 2024 MotoAmerica Steel Commander Superbike Championship will embark on Ridge Motorsports Park this coming weekend, June 28-30, with little doubt that he can improve upon his results from a year ago at the racetrack in Shelton, Washington.

Fong’s 2023 visit to Washington was a bust as he was disqualified from race one for ignoring a black flag, and he failed to finish race two. That’s zero points on the weekend for those of you counting at home.

But that was then and this is now and it’s highly unlikely that with his confidence level at an all-time high, and with his team operating smoothly and efficiently, things won’t be very different than they were in 2023.

Fong arrives at the track in the shadows of Mount Rainier after two resounding victories at Brainerd International Raceway two weeks ago and it has him atop the standings with the series set for two stops on the West Coast beginning with the Ridge round.

Fong’s season thus far has been one of up-and-down consistency (pardon the oxymoron) early and flat-out speed of late. He began his 2024 season with a podium in race one at Road Atlanta but followed that up with a 10th (in wet conditions) in race two. In the three races at Barber Motorsports Park, Fong was ninth, fifth and second, and at Road America he was eighth (again in the wet) and second. Fong was starting to hit his stride, and he followed up on Road America with his pole position and two victories at Brainerd.

Attack Performance/Progressive/Yamaha Racing’s Jake Gagne is the only rider in the top 10 other than Fong to score points in every round, but they haven’t come in bucketfuls like what we’ve come to expect from the three-time and defending Steel Commander Superbike Champion.

All you really need to know is that Gagne has only won one race and that came at Road Atlanta way back in April. That’s simply unheard of for Gagne. The cause? Debilitating arm-pump issues that have Gagne barely holding on (literally), and with just one podium in the past six races. It’s been difficult to watch and even his rivals feel his pain. Unlike Fong, it’s gotten to the point where Gagne longs for wet races as his last podium was a second-place finish in the wet at Road America.

Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati’s Josh Herrin has fought his way to third in the series standings after his race-two crash at Barber put a zero in his points column. Herrin has one win and four total podiums, including his victory in race one at Road America, and his points tally features his two second-place finishes to Fong at Brainerd. Herrin sits 19 points behind Fong and 11 behind Gagne.

Also, remember that Herrin was fast last year at Ridge Motorsports Park, qualifying on pole and finishing third in both races.

Gagne’s teammate Cameron Petersen has been quick all year and, after nine races, finds himself still in the hunt for the championship. With two wins and five total podiums, Petersen is 28 points behind Fong and nine behind Herrin.

Nine points behind Petersen is Herrin’s teammate Loris Baz with the Frenchman earning his second podium of the season in the most recent round at Brainerd. Baz only has one non-score on his season when he was hit from behind by a lapped rider in race three at Barber.

EasyHealthPlans.com/TopPro Racing’s Sean Dylan Kelly started his season on a tear as he raced to two podiums in the first five races of his rookie campaign in the Steel Commander Superbike class. Kelly has slipped down the order a bit with crashes in the two of the past four races and he is now sixth in the championship – 42 points behind Fong and five behind Baz.

Tytlers Cycle Racing’s Cameron Beaubier is seventh, despite the non-score from his crash in the rain at Road America and the three subsequent races of zero points while he recovered from his surgically repaired broken heel. But wait. The five-time MotoAmerica Superbike Champion’s team announced this week that Beaubier will return to action at Ridge Motorsports Park this coming weekend.

Let’s not forget that Beaubier won three of the first five races to start the season prior to his injury and he’s won 62 of these Superbike races in his career. So, in looking at the point standings, Beaubier is 43 points behind. With a five-point difference between first and second, and 11 races left to run… okay, it’s too early for that.

Beaubier’s teammate JD Beach is eighth in the title chase and still trying to recover from the hit his points tally took with two non-finishes in the three races at Barber. Beach, however, showed podium speed with his third in race two at Road America.

Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Brandon Paasch had a rocky start to his season but has turned things around with four strong outings in a row at Road America and Brainerd. Paasch is ninth in the championship heading to Washington.

Despite not competing in the past four Superbike races, Real Steel Motorsports’ Hayden Gillim still finds himself in the top 10 after a solid start to his season on his Stock 1000-spec Honda CBR1000RR-R SP.

With Beaubier set to return, Xavi Forés will be the only Superbike fill-in rider as he will continue to replace the injured Richie Escalante on the second Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki.

Pre-Race Ridge Notes…

The Superbike men failed to top Jake Gagne’s lap record of 1:39.145 from Q2 in 2022 last year on the 2.47-mile Ridge Motorsports Park, though Cameron Beaubier did set a race-record lap of 1:39.633 in the second of two races in 2023.

Jake Gagne beat Mathew Scholtz and Josh Herrin to win race one a season ago at Ridge Motorsports Park for what was his fifth win in a row. On Sunday, however, Cameron Beaubier broke Gagne’s win streak by topping Gagne and Herrin to win race two.

Three-time MotoAmerica Medallia Superbike Champion Jake Gagne is the winningest rider in the four-year (eight-race) history of MotoAmerica holding a round of its championship at Ridge Motorsports Park. Gagne has won five of the eight races with Cameron Beaubier winning the first two races in 2020 and a third in race two last year.

With his two victories at Brainerd International Raceway two weeks ago, Bobby Fong has now won five AMA Superbike races in his career. That puts him in a tie for 26th on the all-time Superbike win list with Larry Pegram, Jake Zemke, Mathew Scholtz and Danilo Petrucci.

With its five wins thus far in 2024, Yamaha is closing in on the 125-win mark in the MotoAmerica Superbike era. Yamaha has 122 wins in MotoAmerica Superbike and 195 total AMA Superbike wins, which places them second to Suzuki’s 216 AMA Superbike victories.

Eight down, eight to go: Assen gets MotoE’s second half underway

Eight Down, Eight To Go: Assen Gets Motoe’s Second Half Underway2024’s half-time standings see Casadei lead Zannoni by six points as a date with the Cathedral of Speed awaits the electric series.

Eight races down, eight to go. The 2024 FIM Enel MotoE™ World Championship has been a fascinating watch up to the halfway point as the electric class riders and teams get set to dance to the hymns of the Cathedral of Speed for Round 5.

Heading to the Motul TT Assen, Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) holds the Championship lead – but only just. The Italian bounced back from a disappointing Catalan GP to pick up a win and second place on home turf at Mugello, handing him the title chase lead, but fellow Italian Kevin Zannoni won Race 2 to ensure he’s just six points adrift. Casadei has podium pedigree in Assen, so the current leader will be confident he can still be at the summit come Saturday evening.

Casadei and Zannoni are the lead players so far in the 2024 Championship chase, as Oscar Gutierrez (Axxis-MSI) and Nicholas Spinelli (Tech3 E-Racing) land in the Netherlands searching for much better weekends than they endured in Italy. Gutierrez’s P10 and P11 and Spinelli’s P9 and P10 were the pair’s worst finishes of the season. Time to respond in Assen.

Hector Garzo (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE™) is now level on points with Spinelli – 88 apiece – in P5, with the Spaniard returning to the podium last time out with a P3 for the first time since his double P2 in Portimao. The other rostrum scorer at Mugello was Eric Granado (LCR E-Team) as the Brazilian grabbed a much-needed third in Race 2 to set himself up for a charge up the standings in the second half of the season.

Last year’s double Assen winner, Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE™), earned his best result of the season at Mugello with a P7, as the first ever Cup winner eyes a podium return at a happy hunting ground. Alessandro Zaccone (Tech3 E-Racing) could also be one to watch after an impressive Mugello where he returned to parc ferme with pole position and a podium.

As always, two MotoE™ races are coming up this weekend, and then two more in Germany. So get ready for a pivotal back-to-back!

Buckle up as MotoGP returns at Assen

Buckle Up As Motogp Returns At Assen75 years of history, 4.54km of awesome: the world’s most exciting sport arrives at the Cathedral.

Have there ever been so many talking points created off track in such a short space of time? Despite three weekends off, MotoGP™ has been making headlines since the Mugello Test, when 6pm local time saw the first bombshell rider announcement of the season drop: Jorge Martin moves from Prima Pramac Racing to Aprilia Racing from 2025. That made it fairly clear who was going to be announced alongside reigning Champion Francesco Bagnaia at Ducati Lenovo Team, and sure enough it was confirmed not too long thereafter: Marc Marquez will move from Gresini Racing MotoGP™ to the factory team. We’ll leave the debate about whether that was the concrete plan before 6pm on Monday at Mugello to the rumour mill.

There was then a détente in the rush to win announcement roulette before KTM came out with their big reveal for 2025. The rumour of Enea Bastianini’s move from alongside Bagnaia to Austrian machinery was true. But the rumour of who would be his teammate had not even begun as KTM managed to keep their full line-up under wraps, and it was another bombshell: Maverick Viñales will join a newly orange Red Bull KTM Tech3 squad alongside the ‘Beast’.

Now, we know who will replace him at Aprilia: Marco Bezzecchi, moving from Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team. The dominoes are falling into their own fascinating jigsaw, but that’s all 2025. This season, there remains a Championship to win. 13 Grands Prix, 13 Tissot Sprints and a maximum of 481 points still await the world’s most exciting sport in 2024 and we get back on track with a back-to-back line-up of two classics, starting with the TT Circuit Assen.

As MotoGP™ celebrates our 75th anniversary, Assen celebrates its 75th Grand Prix as it’s been on the calendar every year since 1949 barring one gap in 2020. But heritage isn’t a throwback at the Cathedral, it lives alongside what’s often one of the most spectacular race weekends of the season, and there’s even more to race for as everyone rolls out.

Bagnaia, winner of the last two and superfan of the venue, wants to rule both for the points and to make one as his 2025 teammate is confirmed. Martin, with only one Moto3™ win at the venue so far, wants to show even more. That the track doesn’t matter, that his speed and consistency are there. Maybe that his decisions for the future are backed by both. Marc Marquez, having somewhat made a point already, is still missing that Grand Prix win in 2024 too. Can he take that at Assen, one of Bagnaia’s most coveted top steps? With the three riders covered by 35 points, these two weekends are tantalising as the form book for Assen doesn’t much resemble that for Germany.

Then there’s Bastianini, only 57 off the top, and that could be less barring his adventures garnering attention from the FIM MotoGP™ Stewards at Le Mans and Barcelona, including his one-man insurrection there that dropped him outside the points. Mugello’s last lap, last corner move on Martin, however, shows what he’s got when the cards fall right. Viñales, meanwhile, is a master of Assen. His CV at the venue is one of the best on the grid and his form in 2024 strong. Can he get back into the podium fight and revive some COTA BatMav?

Teammate Aleix Espargaro has form at Assen too, including a podium last year as Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) got done for track limits and the Aprilia was promoted. Espargaro has also pulled off that stunning two-for-one on Binder and now-teammate Jack Miller at the final chicane within recent memory. Binder, track limits aside, had podium pace too, and Miller – now on the market for 2025 – has fair form at Assen including his historic first MotoGP™ win in the rain in 2016.

Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3), now confirmed in orange next season, will want to get back in the podium battle, and his teammate Augusto Fernandez will hope Assen – where he won his first Grand Prix, in Moto2™, and which is one of his favourite tracks – helps his luck to turn. After a much tougher run of late, Bezzecchi will be looking for a turnaround too. Last year here he won the Sprint to deny Bagnaia the chance at the double, and even if the eventual Champion took the spoils on Sunday, Bezzecchi wasn’t too far behind for an impressive podium.

Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team), meanwhile, is quietly impressing as he keeps the upper hand on a fair few fellow GP23 riders, and he’ll want to continue doing that. Bezzecchi and Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) are looking to put a stop to it. Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing) is on his own mission, with the speed now there more often than not, but more points-paying finishes on the menu.

At Trackhouse Racing, the rumour mills remain full steam ahead, but Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez have to maximise the weekend regardless. Fernandez’ 2024 is showing flashes of what we’ve been waiting for since his promotion to the premier class, including that impressive Sprint lead a few races ago, but he’ll want more, and Oliveira wants to stamp some authority back on the dynamic.

Those rumour mills still abound at Honda, too. Joan Mir (Repsol Honda Team) is now in the spotlight there, with the 2020 Champion seemingly a big piece of the remaining puzzle. Still, on track the mission remains simple: move forward. Teammate Luca Marini, already signed up and with no market stress, joins him in that, and likewise Johann Zarco (CASTROL Honda LCR) on both counts. Meanwhile Takaaki Nakagami (IDEMITSU Honda LCR) is quietly impressing in the battle there, and he’s also a former Moto2™ winner at Assen.

At Yamaha, Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) will be hoping Assen – where last year his speed was impressive – will help give their mission back to the front a boost, and his own record at the venue is a good one, too. He’s also out the shop window, head down and focused on the mission in hand. Alex Rins, meanwhile, remains on the hunt for more points in a difficult season as Yamaha look to rebuild into frontrunners, but reports from the Iwata marque’s recent test were very positive.

The headlines off track will keep us talking as we head into the weekend, but once the action starts we know Assen will grab the spotlight back for the stunning racing promised at the Cathedral. So don’t miss it, with the Championship poised for more twists, the rumour mill still going strong, and the longest-serving venue on the calendar primed to serve up another classic.

Can Roberts close in on Garcia?

Can Roberts Close In On Garcia?Following a lower-key Catalan GP, Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing) bounced back brilliantly at Mugello to claim a pole position and race win, seeing the American pick up his first 25-point haul since 2022.

Roberts’ timely victory sees the #16 claw back valuable points on World Championship leader Sergio Garcia (MT Helmets – MSI) after the Spaniard missed out on a rostrum finish for the first time since the Spanish GP. Garcia grabbed P4 at the chequered flag, as the Boscoscuro star heads to Assen holding a seven-point advantage in the overall standings. It’s tight at the top.

A third podium of 2024 was pocketed by Manuel Gonzalez (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™) as the Spaniard pushed Roberts all the way in Italy, and after two no-scores in Le Mans and Barcelona, Gonzalez needed that P2. Having been just 0.067s away from the win, can he now build on his best finish of the season in the Netherlands?

Elsewhere, mixed fortunes came the way of the Speed Up Racing duo. The positive was Alonso Lopez finished P3, but Fermin Aldeguer’s tougher-than-many-expected season continued after he was caught up in an incident involving Jeremy Alcoba (Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team). A second DNF in as many races sees the pre-season favourite needing results – and fast.

2023 Dutch TT winner Jake Dixon (CFMoto Aspar Team) likewise wants a lot more as we return to the venue in 2024. The Briton’s Catalan GP podium couldn’t be backed up with another promising result at Mugello, so the #96 will be hunting a repeat of his 2023 heroics this weekend. In that memorable outing, Dixon pipped Ai Ogura (MT Helmets – MSI) to the top step, and after a P5 in Italy, the Japanese star will be fancying a rostrum return too.

Can the Cathedral of Speed deliver another classic? And who’s coming out on top? We’ll find out on Sunday!

Veijer takes aim at Alonso

Veijer Takes Aim At AlonsoThe current Moto3™ state of play can be summed up in two words: David Alonso.

The CFMoto Aspar Team rider has racked up three consecutive wins as the Colombian’s early season march has now birthed five victories in seven races, with his lead up to a healthy 37 points as a trip to the Cathedral of Speed awaits.

This weekend though it’s a homecoming for Mugello runner-up Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP). The Dutchman arrives in Assen with three podiums in his last four outings, the other being a P4. Veijer, after Daniel Holgado’s (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) more difficult Italian GP, is now just 11 points off the Spaniard, who currently occupies P2 in the Championship. Does a second win of 2024 beckon on home turf for Veijer? Many thousands of fans will be hoping so, and he’ll do anything to deliver.

At Mugello, that long-awaited debut podium visit was secured by Ryusei Yamanaka (MT Helmets – MSI), while teammate Ivan Ortola will be hoping to respond after a crash on the final lap cost the Spaniard a top three finish. The latter is now 15 points adrift of Veijer as we approach the summer break. Can they close the gap near the top? And can anyone defeat Alonso?

Carpe and Pini take FIM JuniorGP honours as title battles heat

Carpe And Pini Take Fim Juniorgp Honours As Title Battles HeatCarpe and Pini take FIM JuniorGP™ honours as title battles heat up under scorching Portuguese sun.

The FIM JuniorGP™ World Championship made its way to the south of Portugal for Round 4 of the campaign, and beneath the baking heat of a scorching Algarve sun, six phenomenal races unfolded to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

FIM JuniorGP™ honours went the way of Alvaro Carpe (STV Laglisse Racing) and polesitter Guido Pini (SeventyTwo Artbox Racing Team) after two captivating battles, while Roberto Garcia (Fantic Cardoso Racing) completed the double in the Moto2™ European Championship. There was plenty of joy too for Carlos Cano (SeventyTwo Artbox Racing Team) in the European Talent Cup, while birthday boy Archie McDonald (MRE Talent) went from pole to P1 in the Stock European Championship.

FIM JuniorGP
Having secured a last gasp victory in Barcelona, Alvaro Carpe repeated the trick in the opening race of the FIM JuniorGP™ category in the south of Portugal. The STV Laglisse rider played his cards to perfection, having battled with a large group before he formed part of a breakaway trio alongside polesitter Guido Pini and Casey O’Gorman (Team Estrella Galicia 0’0).

As the race entered the endgame, O’Gorman faded slightly to a comfortable third, but it was riveting stuff as it looked like class debutant Pini would do enough to hold off his Spanish rival, but once again, Carpe produced some last corner fireworks to snatch victory on the line.

In terms of the Championship, Championship leaders Marcos Uriarte (CFMoto Aspar Junior Team) and Jesus Rios (MRE Talent) both failed to see the chequered flag, though Uriarte remained the title leader by just six points.

The second race of the day proved just as exciting, though this time Guido Pini ensured history didn’t repeat itself as the Italian held out for the win. The Italian kept it cool out front and avoided late dramas this time around by keeping three tenths in his back pocket coming out of the final corner. Maximo Quiles (Team Estrella Galicia 0’0) crossed second, beating Carpe in a dash to the line, with Jesus Rios, a three-time race winner already in 2023, just missing out on the podium.

In terms of the Championship, Uriarte’s frustrating day continued as he could only muster a P10 finish, meaning Carpe takes over as Championship frontrunner, with Rios moving into second at the expense of the former leader.

Moto2 European Championship
Having secured a dream debut Moto2™ ECh pole position on Saturday, Roberto Garcia made it Portimao perfection as he did the double on Sunday. Race 1 saw an electric start as Alberto Surra (Team Ciatti – Boscoscuro) took the holeshot ahead of Garcia, but the polesitter quickly responded as the two went toe-to-toe across the opening lap. Both riders broke away from the rest of the pack, but didn’t relent as they traded overtakes across 16 entertaining laps, with some truly sensational efforts from both riders. In the end, it was the polesitter Garcia who had the last laugh in an epic battle, making his final move with just a couple of laps remaining and then opening up a two second gap to take his second win of the campaign, and become the new Championship leader.

As Garcia romped home to victory, the on track excitement continued as Alberto Ferrandez (Finetwork Team) charged hard in the finale to steal the final podium place away from Dani Muñoz (Gas Up Racing Team), his third of the campaign.

If the opening race was frenetic, Race 2 was coolness personified as Garcia once again claimed an early opening lap lead from pole, and he failed to relinquish it over the course of the race to ensure he made it back-to-back wins in the Algarve. Once again Surra had to settle for second place, while Unai Orradre (STV Laglisse Racing) secured his second podium in as many rounds after Daniel Muñoz crashed out of third place.

All that means Garcia will head to Jerez in September with an 18 point advantage over Mattia Casadei (Team Ciatti – Boscoscuro), with Surra just one point further behind.

European Talent Cup
Carlos Cano came out on top of a thrilling multi-rider battle for victory in the European Talent Cup. The Spaniard started second on the grid and proved a consistent race threat, leading over the line for more than half the race. In classic ETC fashion, a large group of riders huddled up with podium and victory ambitions, but it was Cano, Giulio Pugliese (CFMoto Aspar Junior Team) and polesitter David Gonzalez (AC Racing Team) who were the main protagonists out front. The likes of Pau Alsina (Team Estrella Galicia 0’0), Alex Longarela (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP Junior Team) and Valentin Perrone (Frando Racing VHC Team) all played a part in the fight for honours, but it was Cano who ultimately proved good value for the win, as he beat Pugliese and Gonzalez in a dash to the line.

It means the Spaniard is right back in Championship contention, slashing Marco Morelli’s advantage to just four points, with the Argentinian coming home in seventh as he had a quiet race relative to the high standards he has set in the current campaign.

Stock European Championship
It proved the perfect birthday weekend for Archie McDonald, as the Australian rider backed up his maiden Stock ECh pole with victory following a thrilling last lap shootout with Mario Mayor (Yamaha GV Racing). Having led every lap, McDonald slipped to second place as Mayor made his move as they came across the line for the penultimate time, with both riders almost colliding down the front straight. It seemed Mayor had done enough for the victory, but McDonald invented a brilliant final corner maneuver to poke his nose in front as they took the chequered flag, helping crown the perfect weekend in Portugal for the #69.

Mayor’s second place and 20 points sees him go level with the absent Lorenzo Dalla Porta atop the Championship standings, while Adrian Rodriguez crossed the line in third, helping him move to P3 in the standings.

Day of debut poles as Pini steals the limelight on Saturday in FIM JuniorGP

Day Of Debut Poles As Pini Steals The Limelight On Saturday In Fim JuniorgpRound 4 of the 2024 FIM JuniorGP™ World Championship takes us to the Algarve in the south of Portugal, and after a relentless qualifying in the blistering heat, the grids are now set ahead of Sunday’s races.

Guido Pini (SeventyTwo Artbox Racing Team) took a surprise but thoroughly deserved maiden pole on his very first appearance in the FIM JuniorGP™ class, with Roberto Garcia (Fantic Cardoso Racing) also securing a debut pole in the Moto2™ European Championship.

Indeed, debut poles were the theme of the day, with David Gonzalez (AC Racing Team) and Archie Bob McDonald (MRE Talent) also earning their first head of grid starts in the European Talent Cup and Stock European Championship respectively.

FIM JuniorGP
In FIM JuniorGP™ qualifying, 2022 European Talent Cup Champion and category rookie Guido Pini stunned the rest of the field as he romped to a maiden pole position in his very first appearance in the class. Having missed the opening three rounds due to injury, the Italian finally got his first taste of action on a JuniorGP™ machine, and he certainly made it count. Pini’s 1:48.352 sees him start from P1 on Sunday, while Casey O’Gorman (Team Estrella Galicia 0’0) made it back-to-back front rows with Catalunya Race 2 winner Alvaro Carpe (STV Laglisse Racing) rounding out the front row.

Eddie O’Shea will be looking to bounce back from a frustrating Barcleona round and he will set about his business from fourth on the grid, while Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 stablemates Facundo Llambias and Maximo Quiles are sure to contend for honours from Row 2. The front four rows are all stacked with quality, and eyes at lights out will be cast towards P10 and P11, where Championship leader Marcos Uriarte (CFMoto Aspara Junior Team) and his nearest rival Jesus Rios (MRE Talent) will respectively launch from.

Two races await the FIM JuniorGP™ class on Sunday, the first of which gets underway at 11:00 (UTC +1), and as always, it is set to make for unmissable viewing.

Moto2 European Championship
Roberto Garcia secured his first-ever Moto2™ ECh pole position in Portimao, with the Fantic Cardoso Racing rider posting an excellent 1:42.960. A P1 start provides the Spaniard with the perfect platform to continue his assault on the title, with the 17-year-old currently trailing Mattia Casadei (Team Ciatti – Boscoscuro) by just 11 points ahead of an Algarve double header. Joining Garcia on the front row are Alberto Surra (Team Ciatti – Boscoscuro) and double winner in Barcelona Dani Muñoz (Gas Up Racing Team).

Points leader Casadei will look to defend his advantage from the outside of the second row, with Francesco Mongiardo (Fantic Cardoso Racing) and Jorge Navarro (Klint Forward Junior Team) outqualifying the Italian in Portugal.

European Talent Cup
European Talent Cup qualifying saw David Gonzalez set a scorching time in the baking Portuguese heat to take pole position, his maiden in the category. A brilliant 1:51.468 gave him a near eight-tenth advantage over the rest of his qualifying group, while Carlos Cano (SeventyTwo Artbox Racing Team) was the only other rider to break into the 1:51s during ETC qualifying, and he will launch from P2 with Venezuelan Kerman Tinez (Mir Racing Finetwork Team) completing the front row.

On Row 2, Enzo Bellon (Team Estrella Galicia 0’0) secured his best ever grid position with P4, leading Misano race winner Giulio Pugliese (CFMoto Aspara Junior Team) and Alex Longarela (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP Junior Team). Conspicuous in his absence from the top six is Championship leader Marco Morelli (MLav Racing), with the Argentinian starlet having to settle for P9 ahead of lights out in what is his lowest qualifying of the campaign to date.

Stock European Championship
Rounding out Saturday’s qualifying action was Stock™ ECh, and it proved a day to remember for Archie Bob McDonald as he snagged his first pole position, courtesy of a 1:45.751. The Australian ousted Mario Mayor (Yamaha GV Racing) from top spot, while Adrian Rodriguez (SF Racing) claimed the final spot on the front row.

In what is set to be an open race, Andey Verdoia (Team Honda Laglisse), Borja Jimenez (FAU55 TEY Racing) and Dino Iozzo (IUM Motorsports) will all fancy their chances at glory, particularly in the absence of Championship leader Lorenzo Dalla Porta (Yamaha GV Racing), who has CIV commitments in Mugello this weekend.

We are all set to ride the rollercoaster on Sunday, with lights out for the opening FIM JuniorGP™ race coming at 11:00 local time (UTC +1). A deluge of racing awaits, so make sure you tune in then!

CFMOTO Cements Position As Best Value Motorcycle Manufacturer In The Market

Cfmoto Cements Position As Best Value Motorcycle Manufacturer In The Market14 models benefit from new promotional prices – 16 of 18 models now under £7,000.

CFMOTO further reinforces its commitment to providing class-leading technology and exceptional rider experience with new promotional pricing, reinforcing the position of CFMOTO as the best value motorcycle manufacturer on the market.

With savings of up to £1,800 available – and with the exception of two exceptional machines – the lower end of the CFMOTO price range starts at only £2,999 and peaks at just £6,799, meaning that across its current 18 model strong line-up, nearly 90 per cent of the range is currently available for under £7,000. Brand new, on-the-road, with a four year warranty and service activated European-wide Mobility cover after the complimentary first year – every CFMOTO benefits from this comprehensive package.

Through its modern and futuristic styling, CFMOTO product design continues to impress both customers and the media. The prime example being the 800NK which earlier this year received the prestigious Red Dot Product Design Award – a truly impressive accolade for a Chinese motorcycle manufacturer and, in fact, the first one to receive such honours.

Cfmoto Cements Position As Best Value Motorcycle Manufacturer In The MarketIt’s a given that visually, the 800NK Advanced model stands out from the crowd, however, it’s the technology that steals the show. The main course in this tech feast is the eight-inch TFT display equipped with Apple CarPlay, followed by the full LED lighting system, keyless ignition, cruise control and a quickshifter – all fitted as standard. At a promotional price of £6,799, it’s impossible to say that it stands head and shoulders above the competition – as, quite simply, there is no competition.

And the Classic range continues this theme. For example, the 693 cc parallel twin powered 700CL-X Sport brings a more contemporary café-racer aesthetic to an ever growing segment of the market – but this machine is not your average modern classic. Eye catching flashes of fluoro emerge from the monochrome gloss paint scheme, made even more attention grabbing by the contrasting and iconic red Brembo logo on the front caliper. That’s right, you get standard fit Brembo Stylema calipers that grip onto twin 300mm discs for a promotional price of £4,999. Combine stopping power of this calibre with a sprinkle of sports performance through clip-on handlebars, a slipper clutch and KYB suspension, then turn up the tech to include cruise control, an ignition protection system and full LED lighting – the 700CL-X Sport summed up. Now that is value for money.Cfmoto Cements Position As Best Value Motorcycle Manufacturer In The Market

A message that has clearly been received by riders countrywide, given the rush to the 39 CFMOTO dealers in the network to put deposits down, is that of the arrival of the 450MT – the latest addition to the Multi-Function Touring range. This highly-anticipated model wears all the typical hallmarks of a capable adventurer, coming equipped with long-travel KYB Suspension, a 21-inch front wheel, tubless rims and a bolt-on subframe. Despite this specification and the fact it’s the new kid on the block that everybody is talking about, this highly anticipated low-capacity machine is currently available for as little as £49 per month* on an introductory finance package.

*450MT finance quote based on £887 deposit, 4.9% APR, 4,000 miles annually, 37 months.

However, adventurers need not settle for small-capacity thrills. With CFMOTO, trailblazing tourers can easily opt for a larger capacity with minimal financial fallout. Equipped with a sturdy 799 cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin motor that pumps out a lively 95 Hp – and now available for an amazing £6,799 – the 800MT Sport takes adventure to another level. Besides the technological highlights such as cruise control – accessible through a seven-inch TFT display – cornering ABS and full LED lighting, this sports-inspired touring machine is stacked with the equipment straight from the dealer showroom that many manufacturers consider ‘add-ons’. Integrated LED spot lights, fuel tank protection bars and luggage rails increase appeal.

Ducati Diavel for Bentley unveiled in the UK

Ducati Diavel For Bentley Unveiled In The Uk

Deliveries of Ducati’s exclusive Diavel for Bentley have started with the unveiling of the limited-edition model at Bentley headquarters.

The Diavel for Bentley is inspired by the elegant and sophisticated lines of the Bentley Batur – a limited-series model handcrafted by Bentley – and developed around the technical base of the alluring Ducati Diavel V4. Production is limited to a numbered edition of just 500 units of Diavel for Bentley, and 50 units of Diavel for Bentley Mulliner reserved to Bentley clients.

Ducati Diavel for Bentley represents the first collaboration between the two iconic brands. It boasts a completely new design courtesy of the Centro Stile Ducati, in collaboration with Bentley designers, drawing inspiration from the Batur’s sculpted bodywork and the unmistakeable two-tone front grille.Ducati Diavel For Bentley Unveiled In The Uk

The reveal at the Bentley headquarters in Crewe was the first time the Diavel for Bentley has been displayed in public in the UK, and the event was witnessed by the soon-to-be new owners of the bikes from the UK and North Europe.

True to the luxurious nature of both the Diavel for Bentley and the Batur, the participants enjoyed a gala dinner and cocktail reception, as well as the full Bentley experience including a factory tour, as they attended the presentation of the model.
Hosted jointly by Ducati and Bentley, the event was not only a chance to meet the bike in person, but also a celebration of the two innovative brands working together to produce a striking synthesis of style, sophistication, and performance.

Present at the event from Bentley headquarter Mr. David Parker (Chief Commercial Officer – Mulliner) and Mr. Jai Bolar (Head of Design Strategy and Innovation), who introduced the Batur design inspiration.

From Ducati side, Mr. Stefano Tarabusi, Design Manager and Fabrizio Cazzoli, MD for the UK: “We are delighted to offer this exclusive experience for our clients from the United Kingdom and North Europe. This collaboration has been an immense success. It’s not surprising when two brands like Bentley and Ducati, at the top of their industries, get together”.

The 2025 KTM Exc Line-up Moves The Goalposts Even Further

The 2025 Ktm Exc Line-up Moves The Goalposts Even FurtherThe 2025 KTM EXC range introduces a series of refinements and key touches to the Enduro lineup, bringing over 30 years of race-bred performance and cutting-edge technology to the trails.

With over three decades at the sharp end of World Enduro Championships – and countless regional titles – the 2025 KTM EXC line-up is set to maintain its domination of enduro competition.

Following 2024’s significant 95% overhaul, the 2025 range continues to use revolutionary closed-cartridge suspension, refined frame and bodywork, and industry-defining technology.

The most notable change is the ‘orange’ makeover. Here, the previous 1990s-inspired purple highlights are replaced by a timeless silver-grey graphic over predominantly orange bodywork and a black frame. The seat remains orange, featuring a high-grip seat cover and textured grip strips, which can also be found on the frame protectors, tank shrouds and bar pad.

At the rear, handling is further refined, thanks to new settings for the WP XPLOR PDS shock, resulting in an improved pressure balance and a lower risk of cavitation. The swingarm also gets an update, with a machined unit to improve the durability of the chain glider.

Upfront, a new and updated fuel tank roll now secures the tank more firmly in place while keeping the frame protected against scrubbing. At the handlebars, a new on/off switch gear is carried over from the KTM SX range.

All models in the range keep the hydro-formed, laser-cut and robot-welded frame, which is renowned for its flex parameters, rider feedback and straight-line stability, with a 48 mm WP XACT Closed Cartridge spring fork and WP XPLORE PDS taking care of suspension duties.

For the UK market, the 2025 KTM EXC 2-stroke range will consist of the KTM 150 EXC, KTM 250 EXC and KTM 300 EXC. The 4-stroke line-up also remains unchanged, with the dirt ripping KTM 250 EXC-F, KTM 350 EXC-F, KTM 450 EXC-F and KTM 500 EXC-F filling the ranks.

The new 2025 KTM EXC range will be rolling off the Austrian production line in June and available at Authorised KTM Dealers from July. As an introductory offer for the UK market, KTM Finance is offering promotional finance rates across all 2025 EXC models. Ranging from zero to two per cent APR – depending on length of agreement – on Purchase Plan only, this new POWER DEAL is available until 31.07.24. Full price list below.
