Open Bluetooth Intercom (OBI) supported on all current* Cardo Systems devices

Following the release of a series of software updates, the innovative Open Bluetooth intercom (OBI) functionality is now available across all 2023 devices* from Cardo Systems – including the top-of-the-range PACKTALK EDGE to the Spirit.

A new cross-industry standard, Open Bluetooth intercom, allows supported units from Cardo, Midland and UClear to communicate seamlessly with none of the usual frustrations users experience when using ‘universally connected’ cross-branded devices.

Instead of the usual convoluted pairing process with ‘universally connected units’, OBI will be activated automatically when paired to a supported device – no further toggling is required. Even for non-OBI units, the devices can be paired in Bluetooth model as any other Cardo unit – no more having to choose between pairing to a non-Cardo unit or maintaining connection with a phone for calls or listening to music.

Pioneering the wireless Bluetooth communication market for motorcyclists in 2003, this technological roll-out cements Cardo’s commitment to provide motorcyclists with the best solutions to communicate while riding.

Users can easily update their Cardo device to activate the OBI functionality through the Cardo Connect App – and there’s no need for a cable with Over-The-Air software updates. The new software pop-up in the Cardo Connect App will appear automatically whenever a new version is available.

Ducati hit back on Day 3 as the Shakedown concludes

Pirro tops a busy final day in Sepang as factories profit from a dry day at the office.

The Sepang Shakedown Test has drawn to a close and much to the delight of the factories and riders, the final day of action was met with dry weather. That meant plenty of work was completed ahead of the Official Sepang Test, and it was Ducati’s Michele Pirro who set the quickest time as the Borgo Panigale factory hit back on Tuesday.

DUCATI
Pirro – who set a 1:59.803 – was back doing most of his work with the updated aero package they’re trying for 2023. One key thing to note is that Ducati have updated their “ground-effect” side fairings from the Valencia Test, which are now much larger and have a little bit more detail. The actual side pod and the main set of wings are the same as what we saw at Valencia.

YAMAHA
Having tested alone on Sunday and Monday, Cal Crutchlow had company on Tuesday as fellow Iwata factory test rider Katsuyuki Nakasuga joined the fold. Both the British and Japanese riders were putting Yamaha’s new front fairing through its paces – the one we saw at the Valencia Test – as well as the latest mudguard.

In addition, 2021 World Champion Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) was trackside keeping a keen eye on what both Crutchlow and Nakasuga were testing. The Frenchman will also have seen the speed trap numbers Yamaha were posting, which at one point displayed Crutchlow clocking 335 km/h – five more than Quartararo managed in last year’s Grand Prix, and eight more than Yamaha managed in the 2022 Sepang Test. Positive signs they’ve made a significant step with the 2023 engine?

KTM
In the KTM camp, Dani Pedrosa spent plenty of time on KTM’s new aero package. As you can see below, the front fairing shape has changed slightly. The ‘shark tooth’ serrations on the edges are no longer there, while the top set of the wings have been slightly updated, but remain largely the same. The side pod wings have received the same treatment. However, the biggest change we can see is the ground-effect side fairings have grown in size.

GASGAS
Augusto Fernandez (GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3) completed a positive three days of Shakedown testing with a fourth place finish on the final day, his best time sitting at a 2:00.482. The reigning Moto2™ World Champion will be back on track for three days of official testing, where he’ll be joined by his 2023 rivals.

APRILIA
Test rider Lorenzo Savadori was back out on Aprilia’s new front fairing aero package on the final day, with the Italian lapping with more than one RS-GP. Savadori, as Aprilia Racing Team Manager Paolo Bonora explained yesterday, was also busy preparing the bikes for Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Viñales ahead of the Official Test starting on Friday.

HONDA
Stefan Bradl had a busy Tuesday doing back-to-back comparisons between different HRC aero packages, the latest one being something we saw at the private Jerez Test. The trusted German also spent some time comparing bikes with and without the ‘stegosaurus’ wings on the tail unit.

And that’s it from the Shakedown! It’s time for the race riders to head out next, with the Official Sepang Test set to be a busy one.

MCN London Motorcycle Show Feb 18^th

This Ducati 851S Kit bike was presented to Ron Haslam in 1989 by Cagiva. It is estimated to sell for £40,000 – £50,000. The 851S ‘Kit bike’ represented the advent of the 4-valve, liquid-cooled, fuel injected race bikes from the late 1980s.

Ronald Haslam (born 22 June 1956) is an English former Grand Prix motorcycle road racer who had been racing for over thirty years, winning two World titles, four British championships and having ridden in almost 110 GPs. He earned a reputation as one of the greatest riders in the history of the Isle of Man TT, one of the most dangerous and difficult races in the world, and it is considered the ultimate test for any motorcycle rider.

One bike was given to each the 1990 Cagiva ‘Works’ riders Ron Haslam, Randy Mamola and Marco Lucchinelli.

This bike has never been used and is in original and unrestored condition. It comes complete with all the original bagged-up spares including exhausts, gaskets, valves, spark plugs. Other original items included are a workshop manual, factory bulletins, parts list and factory paddock stand. Paperwork included includes Customs & Excise 386 form made out to Ron Haslam for the outstanding VAT paid on import. It is not UK-registered and will require some recommissioning before use.

This 1988 Ducati 851S Kit Bike Tricolore 888cc bike represents a great opportunity to own an important part of UK motorcycle racing history.

Performance Tire Warmer Company Is Now An Official Partner Of The 2023 MotoAmerica Championship.

MotoAmerica, North America’s premier motorcycle road racing series, is pleased to announce that performance tire warmer company Redline-Moto is now an official partner of the 2023 MotoAmerica Championship.

Redline-Moto designs and produces fully digital, fully adjustable, and fully affordable performance tire warmers for professional road racing. Redline-Moto tire warmers have been purpose built to provide rapid and accurate heating via a digital controller, which allows for temperature adjustments within a tenth of a degree and a large heating range up to 240 degrees Fahrenheit. 2023 Ninja ZX‑10R and ZX‑10RR focus on street appeal and racing success

Kawasaki is mounting a full-throttle approach to the 2023 sales season with a newly updated Ninja ZX-10R plus a radical tech change to the WorldSBK race and title winning Ninja ZX-10RR.

For the Ninja ZX-10R model so loved by both street riders and track day enthusiasts, many of the most recent updates remain in place with an impressive maximum power of 149.3 kW {203PS} available that is boosted to 156.8 kW {213PS} with the aid of Kawasaki’s world-famous Ram Air.

In terms of aerodynamics and WorldSBK derived technology, the ZX-10R retains its integrated winglets for increased downforce and cornering precision while the Kawasaki Racing Team developed air-cooled oil-cooler also remains in place.

An array of electronic rider aids – thanks to the integration of a Bosch IMU – cover all aspects of machine control including cornering management, S-KTRC sport traction control, launch control, integrated braking plus engine brake control and selectable power modes and an up-down quick shifter and electronic cruise control. Riders can also link their Smartphone to the colour TFT meter using Kawasaki ‘s own Rideology App.

With an engine that includes finger follower valve actuation (tech shared with the KX450 motocross machine), the Ninja ZX-10R rider can rely on the smoothness and accuracy of electronic throttle valves while riding feedback and racer-like precision is delivered thanks to SHOWA’s BFF (Balance Free Front Fork) up front while rear suspension duties are covered by Horizontal Back-link Rear Suspension with Showa BFRC lite (Balance Free Rear Cushion).

For racers and race teams, the Ninja ZX-10RR has been a point of focus since its introduction and the big news for 2023 is the VAI or Variable Air Intake system. Fitted inside the airbox, the VAI system uses a set of movable intake funnels to alter the intake funnel height. When the VAI funnels are raised, intake air bypasses the system for optimal high-rpm performance; when lowered, intake air passes through the taller intake funnels, for increased low-mid range performance. Movement of the funnels is regulated by servos to maximise output at all rpm.

As standard, the new ZX-10RR has the funnels set in a static upper position and for many riders this will be all they require. However, for racers competing in National and International Championships, the VAI system will be another welcome addition to the Ninja ZX-10RR spec that also includes Pankl precision engine parts, a higher rev limit than the standard Ninja ZX-10R and unique Marchesini wheels.

To activate the VAI feature, racing customers will require certain racing kit parts including a race-kit ECU, loom and sub-controller. VAI is not activated as standard and is not available for those who wish to own and use a Ninja ZX-10RR on public roads.

Both the Ninja ZX-10R and ZX-10RR look to 2023 with optimism, the road machine with its legendary personality and edge, while the ZX-10RR in the hands of KRT and other skilled riders seeks to make the racing top spot its own once again.

A familiar name joins the TPR by Viñales Racing team for 2023

TPR by Viñales Racing is pleased to announce that Isaac Viñales will ride for them in the 2023 FIM Superbike World Championship beginning at the first European event of the year at the iconic TT Circuit Assen in the Netherlands.

Viñales, who raced for TPR Team Pedercini at several rounds in 2022 will contest all remaining races of WorldSBK 2023 aboard a Kawasaki ZX10 RR machine. In addition to the three World Superbike starts with the team in 2022, Isaac has contested thirty-seven WorldSSP races, with a best result of third, which he has achieved on five occasions.

TPR by Viñales Racing will release further information about the season ahead in due course.

Lucio Pedercini – Team Principal: “I am happy to confirm Isaac will return to the team with us for the 2023 season. We already worked together in Estoril last year, so we know each other a little. Rain affects play but Yamaha remain fastest on Day 2

Crutchlow takes back to the top late on and Aprilia debut an “innovative” front fairing on Monday.

It was a rain-affected second day of Shakedown testing at Sepang International Circuit, and the factory test riders and Augusto Fernandez (GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3) had to wait until the final hour to get some more dry track running under their belts. Here’s a rundown of what was seen on Monday in Malaysia, starting with Yamaha after Cal Crutchlow topped the timesheets as the track dried enough to get some slick tyre lap times in just before the chequered flag.

YAMAHA
Weather disrupting plans was the top story at Yamaha, as it was for many. Cal Crutchlow was again the only rider laying down the rubber for the Iwata factory, but the rain meant their 2022-2023 engine specification testing plan was “wasted”, according to Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™ Team Manager Maio Meregalli, who was casting a watchful eye in the Yamaha box. We’ll have to wait for Tuesday to see a little more, hoping the rain stays away…

DUCATI
After having sported a new aerodynamics package on Sunday, Ducati’s Michele Pirro lapped with the standard aero setup on Monday. The Italian’s two bikes did have different versions of the tail exhaust – the large one and the short one – though, so the rain didn’t make it a fully wasted day at the office for the reigning World Champions.

KTM
Having worked on Jack Miller’s side of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing garage during the opening day of action, Dani Pedrosa completed Monday’s outing with Brad Binder’s crew as KTM’s main focal point for the Shakedown is comparing different engine specifications. Jonas Folger joined Pedrosa on track again for his second day of testing activity.

Speaking to motogp.com on the ground in Sepang, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Manager Francesco Guidotti lamented that the “plan was to test new aero packages at the end of the Shakedown”, but due to the rain, it looks like they’ll run out of time to do that before the Official Test kicks off on Friday…

GASGAS
GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3’s Fernandez continued to find his feet on a MotoGP™ bike and unlike most, the Spaniard won’t have been too upset to get a first dose of wet weather riding under his belt on the RC16. The reigning Moto2™ World Champion set a 2:12.255 in the tricky conditions, a time that saw him sit P2 before the track began to dry, before he eventually climbed to P3 when heading out on slicks.

APRILIA
“We have something innovative on the front fairing” was the cryptic message from Aprilia Racing Team Manager Paolo Bonora. Speaking to motogp.com, Bonora also explained how the Noale factory’s aero has been “redesigned” after “taking advantage of the time in the wind tunnel over the winter.”

Including those belonging to Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez in the RNF MotoGP™ Team camp, Aprilia have 10 bikes in Sepang for the Shakedown and Official Test. Lorenzo Savadori’s task – according to Bonora – is to get everything ready for Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Viñales, while also “trying small things.” Like every factory, testing 2023 engine specs are a high priority on the checklist for Aprilia.

HONDA
Test rider Stefan Bradl was spotted testing an updated chassis that the German was seen running at a private Jerez test recently. In addition, just as he was on Sunday, new HRC Technical Director Ken Kawauchi was inside the box getting to grips with his new surroundings.

That’s a wrap on a slightly damp squib Monday, but there’s so much still to come. Another day of Shakedown awaits on Tuesday, before the Official Test sees the whole grid out on track from the 10th to the 12th!

BMW Group Poland wins the biggest tender in the history of the Polish police

BMW Group Polska has been working with the Polish police for many years. Besides BMW cars already in use, Polish authorities will also rely on BMW motorcycles in the future. To this end, BMW Group Polska achieved its greatest success in the local government business.

As part of the “Safer on the Roads” program, the Polish police purchased 503 BMW R 1250 RT-P motorcycles in a special configuration with police equipment and motorcycle suits. 25 of them were sent to the police training center in Legionowo near Warsaw, where new officers are trained on them. The other vehicles are put into active service on Polish roads. The last shipment was officially handed over in Warsaw on November 24 in the presence of Christian Haririan, Managing Director of BMW Group Polska, Karol Kostrzewa, Director of BMW Motorrad Polska, and representatives from the police headquarters. BMW Motorrad Polska and BMW Motorrad dealer Zdunek were responsible for implementing the order.

Yamaha fastest as Sepang Shakedown kicks off 2023

Crutchlow tops the opening day in Malaysia as new parts surface from several factories.

MotoGP™ bikes are back on track! The 2023 campaign has resumed with test riders and our sole premier class rookie, Augusto Fernandez (GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3), completing a rain-affected opening day of the Sepang Shakedown test. Yamaha’s Cal Crutchlow topped the timesheets with a 2:01.146, although it’s less about laptimes and more about track time in the first few days of action this year.

YAMAHA
Three-time Grand Prix winner Crutchlow had three YZR-M1s at his disposal – two 2023 spec bikes, one 2022 spec machine. The main focus was pinpointed on Yamaha’s new, more aggressive engine which was a hot topic of conversation back in Valencia. Glancing at the timesheets, it looks like the problem that arose at the end of last year, causing some puzzled looks after clear improvements had been proven at earlier tests, has been diagnosed.

Crutchlow clocked a 330km/h top speed according to the circuit’s live timing, just a couple of kms shy of the fastest. In addition, looking back at the 2022 Sepang Test, Yamaha’s fastest top speed was 327km/h – early indications that progress has been made. That’ll be music to the ears of Fabio Quartararo and his Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™ teammate Franco Morbidelli ahead of the Official Sepang Test.

KTM
New KTM testing recruit Jonas Folger joined MotoGP™ Legend Dani Pedrosa on track for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing as the German got to grips with the RC16 for the first time. Pedrosa, meanwhile, was working with Jack Miller’s crew on the opening day.

GASGAS
Reigning Moto2™ World Champion Fernandez was back out with GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3 and having had no plans for the Valencia Test apart from trying a MotoGP™ bike for the first time, these three days will be vital for the Spaniard to start making the bike his own. The number 37 finished second on the timesheets with a 2:01.331, just 0.185s from Crutchlow’s best effort.

HONDA
Stefan Bradl was lapping for HRC and the German had two RC213Vs in the box. Bradl was out on a new-look Honda machine dressed in redesigned aero, a new exhaust and the 2023 engine. Bradl’s best time was a 2:01.605, placing him fourth on the timesheets.

APRILIA
Lorenzo Savadori was on hand to give the 2023 Aprilia RS-GPs a shakedown, and it was a busy day for the Italian who had six bikes to ride. Aprilia debuted some new aero – something we’ll be seeing plenty of from the factories during pre-season – as Savadori also suffered a technical issue towards the end of the day.

DUCATI
Ducati’s trusted Michele Pirro was again putting in the groundwork for the reigning World Champions, who head into the season looking to defend not one, not two, but three Championships.

The Borgo Panigale factory opened their 2023 account with a new fairing to show off, and Pirro worked with two GP23s. The Italian posted a 2:02.115 best lap time.

With temperatures soaring in Malaysia, coupled with a dirty track surface following the winter and then rain coming later in the day, times were around three seconds slower than what we saw at the 2022 Malaysian GP. Expect the times to tumble the further we get into testing at Sepang!

Motorcycle Enthusiasts Gear Up For Show This Weekend At Eikon Centre

Tomorrow (Saturday, February 4) motorbike enthusiasts are set to descend on the Eikon Exhibition Centre in Lisburn for the inaugural Motorcycle Plus Show.

Organised by 360 Events, the motorbike extravaganza is set to welcome racing and road bike fans from across Northern Ireland, Ireland and the UK.

Planned as a curtain raiser for the start of the motorcycling season for the year ahead the show will attract fans of both on and off road competitions as well as bike enthusiasts across the country.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the return of the annual bike festival hosted by former rider and commentator Gareth Keys.

“I’m delighted to come on board with 360 Events to host this year’s Motorcycle Plus Show. I’m looking forward to welcoming all our riders and motorcycle professionals for the Q&A Sessions and Meet & Greets.

“The show is a fantastic way to kick off the new season and a great opportunity to catch up with fellow riders and enthusiasts.”

Among the exhibitors and teams attending the show is Grahame Hanna who will be showing off his North West 200 and Ulster Superbike winning IFS Yamahas, Team JMcC Roofing who will have a number of machines on display, Revival Racing MCC with a display of race machines, Irish Drag Racing with their specialist bikes and cars and much more.

Whilst on the rider front the show announced big names such as BSB Superstock Champion and North West 200 winner, Richard Cooper as well as multiple TT winner, and Ulster Grand Prix superstock lap record holder, Dean Harrison will be over from England for the event, along with former World Grand Prix 250 winner, North West 200 and Daytona winner Jeremy McWilliams, and British Superbike Championship rider, Korie McGreavey and Irish motorsport icon Ivor Greenwood who will be taking to the stage for the talks and available for meet and greets.

Throughout the weekend Mental Health Motorbike, the UK charity focused on creating meaningful opportunities to grow the well-being of the Motorbike community and reducing the number of bikers in the UK committing suicide will also be on site to speak to the community.

Other attractions at the show include Faye Ho from FHO, a true trailblazer in motorcycle racing and nine-year-old Irish Minibike 90cc Championship winner, Joel ‘The Rocket’ Haire and the world-renowned motorcycle film producer Colin James along with interviewer Toni Connor who will record interviews with riders, teams, personalities, traders, young budding racers and fans.

“I’m a bit nervous about going to the show because I’m going to be on stage but I’m excited to see my teammates and hopefully see Steve Leicster for the first time,” said Joel.

Filling in for the “Plus” element of the show will be displays such as F1 star Grand Prix driver Heikki Kovalainan’s famous Dallara Nissan World Formula car, one of Ireland’s fastest racing cars.

This year’s show is sponsored by AB&C Insurance and supported by Hurst Yamaha, Hurst BMW and Crossan Motorcycles.

Organisers have also pledged to support local charities such as Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council’s Mayoral charity, Helping Hand for the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, the Atlas Women’s Centre in Lisburn and St John Ambulance service.

Kenny Gardner from 360 Events said: “The Motorcycle Plus Show is a great meeting place in the winter to plan your summer months ahead.

“We believe that after four years’ absence the public are ready for a winter Motorcycle Show once again to ‘launch’ their year in the great pastimes of motorcycling & motorsport, whether racing, touring or just enjoying riding bikes.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone throughout the weekend. Having been on site for the last two days during setup, I’m excited to open the doors on Saturday.”

There will be a free Minibus service from Lisburn railway station to the Motorcycle Plus Show on both days of the weekend, leaving every hour on the hour and returning every half hour.

3, 2, 1… Shakedown! MotoGP factories head for Sepang

The first track action of the season sees factory test riders and our 2023 rookie head out for three days of Shakedown Testing.

The time has come… or almost! Ahead of the official Sepang Test from the 10th to the 12th of February, the MotoGP™ factories – and our 2023 rookie – will be out on track for the Shakedown from the 5th to the 7th. The Shakedown also takes place at the majestic and usefully varied Sepang International Circuit, and it will be our first taste of the blockbuster, record-breaking season we have in store for 2023.

So, the rookie. Premier class debutants are allowed to take part in the Shakedown and this season, that means GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3 newcomer Augusto Fernandez. The reigning Moto2™ Champion is the sole rookie and will enjoy the three days of track time to get acquainted following his debut in the Valencia test in November, and he’ll be joined by the factory test riders.

That means it’s Michele Pirro out for Ducati as the Ducati Lenovo Team look to begin their defence of not one, not two, but three titles, aka that coveted triple crown. Yamaha, meanwhile, are expected to field three test riders – Cal Crutchlow, Katsuyuki Nakasuga and Kohta Nozane – as they look to take back to the top.

For Aprilia, we can expect Lorenzo Savadori on duty as the Noale factory head into new territory in their post-concession world, and at Honda Stefan Bradl will take the reins. The Japanese factory will be looking for a step forward and to lay some big groundwork for progress ahead of handing the RC213V back to Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team), new stablemate Joan Mir and LCR’s Takaaki Nakagami and the incoming Alex Rins.

KTM have two riders set to take to the track: MotoGP™ Legend Dani Pedrosa, who also recently confirmed the Spanish GP wildcard first revealed by Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Manager Francesco Guidotti, and long-time test rider Mika Kallio. The Austrian factory also have Jonas Folger on the books for 2023, so will the German take to the track at the Shakedown? We’re about to find out!

Akrapovič Unveils Technical Partnership with GASGAS Factory Racing Trial Team

Akrapovič is pleased to announce that it has expanded its cooperation with GASGAS Factory Racing for the forthcoming FIM X-Trial World Championship and FIM TrialGP World Championship this season.

Heated Clothing – Not just for Winter

Invest in heated kit to stay comfortable right through the year.

Keis – the UK’s leading heated motorcycle clothing brand – are reminding riders that heated garments can be a practical addition to the kit cupboard throughout the riding season in the UK, and not just in winter.

Wayne Harrison, Keis’ Head of Marketing, explains: “Many riders think of heated clothing purely for winter, but increasingly unpredictable weather – and other factors that may not be so obvious – means the ability to turn on the heat any time in the riding calendar is a real bonus.”

Even in Spring and Autumn, the average temperature range in the UK is relatively cool, and can catch riders out if they’re not prepared. In April – the start of the riding season for many British bikers – mean temperatures only reach a daily high of 12 degrees Celsius (54 Fahrenheit) and can go as low as just 4°C (39°F).

Wayne adds: “Even at that top mean figure of 12°C you can start to feel the cold after only a few minutes on the bike. And if your riding takes in early starts or goes past sunset, the temperature can quickly plummet, leaving you caught out in the cold.”

Wind chill is also a major factor that is often overlooked; riding at just 50 mph in an ambient air temperature of 4°C the windchill takes it to -4, and at 70mph that will drop to a seriously uncomfortable -5°. Hitting the mountain passes – a popular choice of route when touring – can also have a dramatic effect. For every 100-metre rise in altitude, the temperature decreases by about 1 degree Celsius.

As well as being uncomfortable, prolonged exposure to low temperatures like these can quickly affect the body’s core temperature, and a drop of just 1-2 degrees Celsius can affect concentration, coordination and cause drowsiness – all potentially disastrous when in charge of a motorcycle.

Bell Announces Partnership With The Steve McQueen Estate

MotoE: the new era begins

2023 welcomes Ducati as MotoE™ gets ready for more races, more rounds and more incredible competition powered by Enel X Way.

It’s 2023 and that means it’s time to get excited for the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Championship! No longer a Cup, the electric competition gains World Championship status this season, there’s a new manufacturer… and the calendar expands to eight rounds!

In 2023, MotoE™ welcomes Ducati as the single manufacturer, with plenty to look forward to as the grid switch machinery and get ready for the most comprehensive season ever. Eight rounds in seven countries sees MotoE™ join the MotoGP™ paddock from Le Mans, kicking off competition alongside the 1000th Grand Prix, and the season runs all the way through to Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Dunlop Sportmax Q-Lite: Sports touring performance for lightweight bikes

Dunlop has launched its latest sports touring tyre, Sportmax Q-Lite, which combines hypersport-style performance with a high-mileage tread and improved handling.

This mix makes the Sportmax Q-Lite suitable to tackle the demands of daily riding on lightweight bikes, such as the 125cc and 250cc categories.

The tyre brings hypersport design and performance to the lightweight sector. Advances in the single radius profile of the Sportmax Q-Lite gives the rider a similar feel at any speed or lean angle. This feature is crucial to giving riders a consistent level of confidence whether riding in the city or navigating a twisty road.

Sportmax Q-Lite replaces the TT900 GP and offers a 60% mileage improvement compared to its predecessor1. It is also a marked improvement in overall grip and handling thanks to breakthroughs in tread design allowing for an optimised contact patch even under high loads.

Dunlop has developed a bespoke compound for the Sportmax Q-Lite. It features a full carbon compound with state-of-the-art grip resins that provide added grip on both wet and dry surfaces by optimising the pattern design, tyre profiles, tread compound and casing construction.

The hypersport-inspired tread pattern gives it a sporty appearance with grip and handling to match. Structurally, the tyre casing stiffness has been optimised per individual size by adjusting the carcass construction and number of breakers. Furthermore, groove shapes were developed using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) simulation to optimise mileage and reduce uneven wear.

Lap record breaking quartet emerges in Portimao

Bautista edges out Rea by only 0.009s, while Rinaldi and Razgatlioglu also had a strong showing to conclude testing on the Portuguese rollercoaster

Despite a small crash in the morning, Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.It Racing – Ducati) set the fastest lap on Day 2 of Portimao test as he lapped under the lap record.

Six-time WorldSBK Champion Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) was just 0.009s off Bautista’s fastest time, taking second place at the end of Day 2 with 68 laps completed.

Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.It Racing – Ducati) took third place just 0.109s behind his teammate.

2021 WorldSBK Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon Team) concluded his two-day testing in fourth place with a best time of 1:39.441s.

Iker Lecuona (Team HRC), who had a crash in the final sector in the morning, posted a 1’39.803s to take sixth spot as Honda looked to work on setups for the CBR1000RR-R machine.

Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) was the fastest rookie on Day 2 at Portimao as he finished in 7th place, 1.167s off Bautista’s best time.

Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team’s Bradley Ray and MIE Racing’s Eric Granado concluded their first WorldSBK test.

WorldSBK Day 2 Report
There was plenty of lap record pace on display in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve on Day 2 of the two-day test in Portugal, with riders on the verge of breaking into the 1’38s for the first time in WorldSBK. Reigning Champion Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) topped the times on day two by just 0.009s ahead of six-time Champion Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK).

Bautista posted a 1’39.035s to obliterate Rea’s Superpole lap record from last year’s Portuguese Round. Bautista’s day, with the Spanish rider looking at bike stability, was disrupted by a crash at Turn 7 which brought out the red flag. His teammate was one of the four riders to go below the lap record with a 1’39.144s to take third place; backing up his top spot from Day 1. Rea, the lap record holder with a 1’39.610s from last year’s Tissot Superpole, took second spot and was only 0.009s slower than Bautista at the end of the day’s running with the six-time Champion testing some new items from Showa and looking at chassis balance. 2021 Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) was fourth fastest as he also went under Rea’s existing lap record, posting a 1’39.441s on his way to fourth spot. As at Jerez, there was a lot of focus on the rear of his Yamaha YZF R1 machine in order to improve grip exiting corners.

All riders and teams are now focused on the Official Test taking place ahead of the season opening round on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st February at Phillip Island.

Turn by Turn navigation system arrives on the DesertX

Exploration, fun and performance. And a great desire to pick up and go. The identity of the DesertX leaves no doubt: it is the first modern Ducati with a 21″ front wheel and has been designed to tackle even the most demanding off-road conditions. Presented in Matt Star Silk colouring, to which the new “RR22” livery has been added, the 2023 model is the first in the Ducati range to introduce the new Turn by Turn navigation system.

The integrated navigator is based on the Ducati Multimedia System, which uses the bike’s TFT cluster instrumentation to display the route guidance calculated by the Ducati Link App. In this way, navigation functions can be exploited without the need for an external device.

It is an official Ducati Performance accessory and can be purchased at Ducati Stores together with the bike or even at a later date, allowing it to be used even by those who already own a DesertX.

The system relies on the Bluetooth connection between the smartphone (iOS or Android) bike and the earphones on the rider’s and passenger’s helmets through the Ducati Multimedia System (accessory to be purchased separately), which shows notifications on the instrument panel regarding phone calls, messages/emails received and listening to music on the smartphone.

To use the Turn by Turn navigation system, the latest version of the Ducati Link App and the user license activation are required. After that, all you have to do is enter one or more destinations for the app to calculate the route according to your preferences (fastest, most efficient, exclusion of toll roads, etc.) and you can start navigating.

The phone can then be placed in your pocket, in a tank bag or on the Ducati Performance mount, without the need to keep the display on. Navigation is carried out with the support of maps, which can be downloaded in advance to reduce data traffic consumption or to get into difficulties in areas with poor signal coverage. By keeping the phone online, however, it is possible to take advantage of real-time traffic indications.

Navigation directions are displayed on the screen, leaving space for riding-relevant information so that safety is not compromised. Also in the interests of safety, the system displays the next turn along with the indication of the approaching turn, so that the driver can prepare well in advance for the manoeuvres to be carried out later. It is also possible to display the speed limits of the stretch being travelled thanks to the data on the maps.

The system makes it possible to choose which indications to receive (visual or visual and auditory, if a connection to the rider’s headset is active) and to record the route together with all data on speed, lean angle and photos taken during the trip, so that the experience can be relived or shared with friends. The system, whose functionality will be constantly evolved in future versions, will also be adoptable on the Diavel V4. Map coverage is already extensive, and will be progressively increased in the coming months with the addition of China, South Korea and Japan.

2023 MXGP Calendar Update – Monster Energy FIM MXoN

Infront Moto Racing would like to announce updates to the 2023 calendar of the FIM Motocross World Championship and the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations.

The Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations previously scheduled on October 22^nd in Ernée, France, will be brought forward to October the 6^th,7^th & 8^th. This decision was tough to take but thanks to FIM, Infront Moto Racing, FFM, and the Motoclub of Ernée we were able to take the right action. The great collaboration between Infront Moto Racing, MX Sports and Feld was key to align with worldwide racing calendars, after the end of the racing season in the United States had to reshuffle.

The updated date foreseen for the MXoN will allow the best riders based and competing in the USA series to participate to the event, as the desire to create the top conditions for an epic MXoN show is crucial for the greater enjoyment of the fans. The Monster Energy FIM MXoN is the most important Off Road event of the season with the aim to offer the best experience for motocross fans, with the best riders from all over the world.

David Luongo, Infront Moto Racing CEO: “The date change of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations to the 7/8th of October occurred to ensure the best show to Motocross fans, because with the calendar modifications of the various championships around the world it appeared that some riders and Federations would have difficulties in attending the biggest Off Road event of the year and we had to find a solution. We believe that the Monster Energy FIM MXoN is extremely important to the entire global motocross community and fans deserve and expect to see the best riders from each nation compete together this one time every year.

“Moving the date closer to the end of the AMA schedule will help secure the participation of a very strong Team USA, as they seek to successfully defend the Peter Chamberlain Trophy for the first time since 2011,” added Feld Motor Sports’ Dave Prater, Vice President-Supercross. “Last year’s winning Team USA lineup of Eli Tomac, Chase Sexton and Justin Cooper have all expressed interest in returning to defend their title. Meanwhile, the Motocross of European Nations is set to take place on October the 14^th and 15^th with the venue to be announced.

Importantly, together with the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, also the Yamaha YZ bLU cRU FIM Europe Superfinale will be held on the weekend of October the 8th. Kawasaki to introduce Ninja ZX‑4R four‑cylinder Supersport

Kawasaki Motors Corporation has announced that it will launch a mid-weight, high performance machine in its famous Ninja range to be called the Ninja ZX-4R.

Incorporating a newly designed engine and frame, the exciting new addition to Kawasaki’s Supersports line will also include Ninja ZX-4R SE and Ninja ZX-4RR variants in countries where they are introduced in February 2023 and thereafter. The model is expected in Europe in the Autumn of 2023.

With specifications varying by market, the most powerful Ninja ZX-4R is equipped with a high-output engine that delivers an exceptional 80 PS in a lightweight, compact Ninja ZX-25R-based chassis for superior cornering performance and acceleration feeling. At its introduction, the Ninja ZX will be the only full-fairing supersport model in the 400cc class with a parallel four-cylinder engine. It inherits the aggressive appearance and premium equipment expected of the Ninja ZX family while refining the sensation-provoking exhaust sound of the high-revving four-cylinder engine.

Whether a seasoned rider or new to the joys of Supersport, Ninja ZX-4R riders will experience the exciting riding pleasure of the “APEX PREDATOR” concept on the racetrack or on the street.

At the heart of this immediately impressive machine is a newly developed 399cc liquid-cooled, parallel 4-cylinder DOHC engine based on technology from Kawasaki’s legendary Ninja ZX series of supersport machines, which is able to deliver a maximum output of 57 kW (77 PS) and 59 kW (80 PS) when ram air is pressurized*. The engine has been conceived to combine strong low- and mid-range torque with strong power at high rpm and in all riding situations, from daily use to on-track sport riding.

Equipped with Kawasaki’s world-famous Ram Air system that increases filling efficiency and contributes to improved engine performance, the air intake is located in the centre of the upper cowl, providing styling that is instantly recognisable as part of the Ninja ZX series. The Ram Air ducts are located on the left side of the front forks, leading to the airbox while the “Ram Air” stamping is visible to the rider to show off the performance of the Ram Air system. The ultra high-revving engine, which revs above 15,000 rpm, delivers the exhilarating exhaust sound that only a Kawasaki high-performance parallel four-cylinder engine can deliver.

In terms of chassis, the configuration is focused on excellent handling performance and is inspired by the chassis elements and design concept of the Ninja ZX-10RR World Superbike. Featuring a high-tensile steel trellis frame and a curved long-type swingarm, the frame achieves an idealised front-rear weight distribution plus an excellent balance of rigidity and flexibility, providing nimble handling and great rider feedback.

Showa’s advanced SFF-BP front fork (Ninja ZX-4R SE and Ninja ZX-4RR models feature a preload adjustment mechanism) is featured with the rear equipped with a horizontal back-link rear suspension system offering the same progressive characteristics of the Ninja ZX-10R supersport model, contributing to the superb handling performance typical of supersport models. Additionally, the Ninja ZX-4RR variant features the same type of Showa BFRC-lite rear shock as the Ninja ZX-10R.

Braking power is delivered via φ290mm semi-floating front twin discs and radial-mounted monobloc calipers, while the rear uses a large-diameter φ220mm disc. The overall package delivers powerful braking force and excellent brake feel, response and power. In terms of braking effectiveness and grip, the F120/R160 tyre combination adopted is designed to match the Ninja ZX-4R’s dynamic performance and provide excellent stability at high speeds.

At first sight there is no mistaking the lines of this new Ninja with its aggressive styling that exudes the power and instantaneous force that the Ninja ZX series is known for. The Ninja ZX-4R’s high-grade appearance is also enhanced by the use of LEDs for all lighting, from the twin-light headlight to the taillight.

Electronic rider aids also feature prominently on this latest Ninja with integrated riding modes that link KTRC (Kawasaki Traction Control) and Power Modes. From four different modes – Sport, Road, Rain, and Rider (Manual), the rider can easily select the appropriate setting to suit the riding conditions and his or her own riding style. Also fitted to the Ninja ZX-4R SE and Ninja ZX-4RR is a dual direction KQS (Kawasaki Quick Shifter) enabling clutchless shifting up/down.

The meter panel of the Ninja ZX-4R is equipped with a 4.3-inch full-digital colour LCD screen providing high visibility and a premium feel. It integrates a track mode that displays lap times, gear positions, and RPMs from 10,000 rpm and above in an easy-to-read manner. The Kawasaki RIDEOLOGY application can be used to connect to a Smartphone for a variety of functions, including recording GPS route information and vehicle riding information.

#SprintingInto2023: new MotoGP time schedule revealed

It’s the start of a new era and the time schedule for the Grand Prix classes can now be confirmed as MotoGP™ sprints into 2023.

New year, new MotoGP™! The season ahead is going to be the biggest yet, with more Grands Prix in more countries reaching more fans than ever before. And that’s not all, as the MotoGP™ Sprint prepares to debut across the calendar and inject even more adrenaline into Saturday’s track action.

Here’s the rundown:

FRIDAY
Friday will remain practice day and will include two sessions for MotoGP™. The first is at 10:45 and lasts 45 minutes, and the second has been extended to 60 minutes. That starts at 15:00, with the combined times from P1 and P2 determining direct entrants to Q1 and Q2 qualifying for MotoGP™. They’re no longer called Free – because they aren’t!

Moto2™ has two 40-minute sessions on Friday, and Moto3™ two 35-minute sessions. Both count towards the combined timings, but for the lower classes Saturday morning’s P3 is also taken into account.

SATURDAY
Saturday is now an absolute blockbuster. MotoGP™ has a 30-minute free practice session, similar to the previous FP4, and then it’s time to qualify as Q1 starts at 10:50 before Q2 finalises the rest of the grid at 11:15. Once that’s concluded, our new post-qualifying show will take riders to a new stage for some live interviews in front of the fans. Then, it’s time to sprint!

The MotoGP™ Sprint will have its own identity. After a condensed 15-minute grid, the new event gets underway at 15:00 every Saturday and the podium will take place at a different location – changeable depending on the Grand Prix – to take the celebrations closer to the fans. Thereafter, a Sprint press conference will take place at 16:15, where we’ll be able to hear from the top three in the Sprint Race, the polesitter and the Championship leader.

Before the Sprint, Moto2™ and Moto3™, will each have a 30-minute P3 session on Saturday morning, with the combined times from P1-P2-P3 determining their direct entrants to Q1 and Q2. Moto3™ qualify first from 12:50, before Moto2™ from 13:45.

SUNDAY
There are no Warm Up sessions for Moto2™ and Moto3™, so the MotoGP™ class opens and closes the show on Grand Prix race day. 9:45 sees a 10-minute Warm Up session get action underway, before a MotoGP™ rider fan parade at 10am lets the packed stands see their heroes ahead of lights out. The riders will head around the track and make a couple of pitstops before landing back at the Hero Walk for more face-to-face fan time.

Racing begins at 11:00 for Moto3™ before the Moto2™ race at the slightly earlier time of 12:15.

The MotoGP™ Grand Prix race begins at 14:00, with the traditional Grand Prix podium set for 15:00. The structure of Moto3™ – Moto2™ – MotoGP™ is to be maintained throughout the season, and the MotoGP™ Grand Prix race will always be the final track action on Sunday. At many events the fans will be given the chance to flood to the podium and get to the heart of the celebrations.

Ducati’s Rinaldi sets the pace on opening day of Portimao test

Rea and Bautista second and third with the top three separated by just 0.068s

Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.It Racing – Ducati) was the fastest rider on Tuesday in Portimao clocking a 1:39.639s lap at the very end of the day.

Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) finished 0.061s off Rinaldi’s time on his Kawasaki ZX-10RR.

Reigning WorldSBK Champion Alvaro Bautista completed Day 1’s top three finishing 0.068s adrift from his teammate.

Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) made his first appearance with his newly revealed 2023 livery.

Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) adapted well to the Portuguese circuit as he was the fastest rookie in ninth, while Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) and Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) were 15th and 16th respectively.

Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.It Racing – Ducati) put in a late lap to take spot with a 1’39.639s as he continued to keep working as he did in Jerez. He was joined in the top three by teammate and reigning Champion Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.It Racing – Ducati) in third, with Bautista lapping only 0.068s slower than Rinaldi as the new Panigale V4 R continued to impress in its early days. Six-time Champion Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) was second on Day 1 after posting a 1’39.700s, ahead of his main rivals from 2022, as he goes in search of an unprecedented seventh World Championship. 2021 Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) was fourth fastest after posting a 1’39.851s, with a big focus on the rear of his Yamaha YZF R1 machine as was the case at Jerez last week.Independent riders rounded out the top ten as they once again shone in testing, with Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) in ninth, Garrett Gerloff (Bonovo Action BMW) in 10th and his teammate, Loris Baz, in 11th; Gerloff the highest-placed BMW rider with Gerloff just over a second off Razgatlioglu’s time and Baz only 0.039s behind his teammate.

This is where the sheer useability, superb power and handling, and engineering of the new spoked wheel 2023 KTM 390 ADVENTURE comes to the fore.

This compact and highly advanced package is one of the most versatile in the KTM range. The 2023 KTM 390 ADVENTURE is not only about the epic outings but also the ‘everyday’. Want that serviceable and dependable machine for the commute but also something that can handle a light offroad blast? No problem. Desire a bike that can still put out the torque and motor performance for a longer weekend ride-out with buddies? Easy. Need a modern, developed, race-informed, A2 compliant all-rounder to discover the delights of a trail for the first time? Look no further.

For 2023 KTM have not only splashed the KTM 390 ADVENTURE with a sharp, fresh look but have also beefed-up the offroad credibility even more. The bike now has tough, light black anodised aluminum rims and spoked wheels – 19” front and 17” rear – so even the rockiest routes of bumps and stones will not hinder or halt the journey home. The introduction of spoked wheels to the 2023 KTM 390 ADVENTURE further adds to existing strenghts to emphasise that ‘adventure’ really can be part of the daily routine.

Elsewhere, the impressively compact 4-stroke 373cc single cylinder engine uses twin overhead camshafts, four valves, a balancer shaft and electronic fuel-injection for smooth and uninterrupted momentum to the beat of 44hp and 37Nm of torque at 7000rpm. Two catalytic converters ensure the system breathes within Euro5 emission targets, while the 14.5-litre fuel tank vapour design also boosts the eco-friendliness of this particular KTM ADVENTURE.

The 2023 KTM 390 ADVENTURE may have smaller dimensions and specs compared to some of its larger siblings but it does not lack the adventure essentials. Ride-by-wire, Motorcycle Traction Control, Cornering ABS, OFFROAD mode (more rear wheel slip) and linked OFFROAD ABS (disengaged on the rear, reduced on the front) are feathered by the 46mm throttle body and the slipper clutch while being administered through the 5” colour TFT and intuitive handlebar switch.

Light weight and unbeatable agility is partly supplied by a chassis that takes its design cues from KTM’s work at the sharp end of rally competition. The KTM 390 ADVENTURE’s ’23 color also comes from this racing background. The steel trellis design and subframe construction achieves a satisfying blend of both feel, flex and long-term comfort; even the wind of the exhaust system is optimised for prime centralisation. WP Suspension APEX hardware is adjustable for compression, rebound and preload and achieves that rare chemistry of tactile grip with the road and confidence-inspiring efficiency for the dirt.

Add bodywork that has been angled to protect zones of the bike and to thrust the rider into full-control stance, a two-tier seat (that can be easily removed to reveal storage space and even swapped out for other models in the KTM PowerParts collection), LED lights, a windshield with two positions and wide ‘all-day’ footpegs, Brembo BYBRE brakes (320 front and 230mm rear discs with four-piston calipers on the front) and the 2023 KTM 390 ADVENTURE is complete. R&G Confirms Three-year Extension With Bennetts British Superbikes

Alongside increased trackside branding, R&G will again be supporting teams throughout the paddock and continuing to operate the official Technical Centre in the paddock, with an increased range of key product lines for 2023.
